... And it still looks better than almost everything on PS4 and Xbox One. Oh, and it has quite detailed AI, physics and rendering options. All the bells and whistles.

I'm not obsessed with graphics or anything, but how can consoles be almost a decade behind PC in terms of technology?

The PS4 has 8gb GDDR5, better than most PC GPUS, which is why The Order 1886 looks better than anything else available!

One random person makes a post about crysis therefore all pc fanboys are the worst?

Your logic needs some work, also you post this on a forum that just yesterday had console idiots trying to outdo each other by arguing about which console had the best Colours and regularly argues about a few fps or a few more pixels difference between consoles.........so surely by followng your logic wouldnt console fanboys be the worst.?

It's just that, graphics count for something, and we're talking about EIGHT YEARS.

In eight years console manufacturers couldn't come up with something that beat a high end gaming rig from 2007!?

Eight years is an incredibly long time. I was sixteen in 2007. I was in high school, playing LAN tourneys on weekends, making money from Quake 3 and Counter Strike. I was still a year away from my first kiss that meant anything. The crushing existential hellscape that was life on Earth hadn't set in yet. I've lived in three different countries since then. I have traveled the world. Learned a new language. Learned to play an instrument. Grew up. Became an adult. Started my career. Went to crazy Osaka karaoke bars and got piss drunk singing songs the locals didn't understand. Got kicked out of the Vatican for making inappropriate jokes during a tour. Went drunken dune buggy riding on the outskirts of Shanghai.

And in all that time consoles haven't been able to catch up to PCs from that long ago!?

Crysis still looks really impressive. I am not so sure about it looking better than current high end games on Consoles (Ryse, AC Unity etc) but gameplay wise it kills pretty much every "muh blockbuster" FPS released in recent years IMO. What makes Crysis shine is its scope and destructible environments that force you to keep moving, and make moment to moment gameplay entertaining.

This^

I almost can't believe that Crysis is 8 years old. Would be amazing to see modern a Crysis game made in the same manner and not the watered down sequels we got instead.

Sadly, while the game looks beautiful, much like CD Projekt in an attempt to profiteer, Crytek sacrificed integrity, dignity and through self imposed ignorance; wits, for sake of money bags,

Unlike CD Projekt, who flourished under the console banner, with critical acclaim and sales well above anything they ever achieved as a pc developer, Crytek floundered for their treachery never again to reach the peaks once set.

Crysis is very much their swan song, now, like a junkie on the pavement with idle thoughts remembering better times, wondering how his life culminated to such a point, Crytek float in the fringes of real people, disillusioned and between worlds.

Very sad. Very much so, the bastards.

Crysis' physics, destruction, open level design, move set with suit powers is still unmatched. It all combined to offer the greatest play ground, want to kill a guy with a turtle, you can.

The game clearly showed what PC's could do, a pity no one really gives a crap these days and chances after the console pot of gold.

Nah, that shit looks incredibly dated nowadays compared to modern console games.

If you said Crysis 3 I would have agreed but definitely not the first one.

Crysis was far far ahead of its time but you're wrong about the ps4 and xboxone, both consoles would be able to run the game at very high settings. Still the ps4 is end 2013 , crysis released mid 2007.

The character models look dated, also some of the textures. Such a shame the sequels weren't as good as the original.

I don't know why but I got the sudden urge to install it again.

No it doesn't. In some aspect it does fall behind, but overall it's more impressive than most modern console games. The major problem with modern console games is image quality. Having sub-1080p resolutions and 30fps (and less) as a standard puts consoles back much further than 2007, and it doesn't matter what fancy effects they put in their game if none of it can be displayed in an acceptable way.

You're crazy. Crysis looks no where near as impressive these days. The animation, textures, effects, etc. are all dated these days.

Does Crysis still look good? Yes, but I think you would have to be absolutely insane to think that game still competes with modern video games. Not to mention, that video is modded crysis, not the original game. People can mod any video game to still look somewhat modern if they put in the effort.

For a game from 2007 it holds up amazingly well I must say. I still remember being completely blown away by its graphics back then. Hard to believe it's been 8 years already...

But no I don't think it beats modern games. It had a great run, the game was able to compete for many years, hell I even remember people debating that it looks better than its sequel (Crysis 2), but those days are over now. Still looks great though.

Bigger issue, how is it that Crysis and Warhead still clown so many FPS games on the gameplay front? Including the games Crytek themselves made.

The shooting in Crysis isn't very good these days. The stealth is overly simplistic (clock-uncloak-headshot-cloak.) The second half of the game also still sucks.

Crysis is still a unique game, but its aging every year.

Consoles will never get a game on the level of Crysis, unfortunately. The only shooters they have with decent graphics these days are practically on-rails with how linear the levels are designed. And of course there's little to no destructibility or anything cool like that.

Dirt Rally (and most big ticket racing games)

Metro Last Light

Battlefield 3 & 4

Dying Light

Arma 3

There are loads of them. Hell, Skyrim with mods looks better than Crysis.

The games available in 2007 including those on consoles like Gears, Mass Effect and Oblivion were a lot better looking than the games 8 years before that in 1999. That is for sure. Is it diminishing returns or just weak hardware? I think it must be a bit of both. The difference between the graphics in games in 1999 and 1991 was even bigger and again on both PC and console the differences were very, very apparent. Diminishing returns. The only generation that was kind of similar to what we are seeing now was with the NES/SNES when 2D games started to hit a wall graphically.

Dude that shader technology looks eight years old.

Crysis 1 looks beautiful, but the new consoles have surpassed it. Crysis 3 on max settings though? Actually Ryse on PC looks better now.

The level Relic on Delta though, seriously one of the best moments in FPS history.

Crysis is like the James Bond movie Skyfall: cool opening, a few exceptional scenes, an arseload of baggage, and over time, people will find out how much they initially overrated it.

2 things

1: If said game is still clowning things, and I agree with what you are saying on some level, that adds to my point of how a half baked tech demo that was a glimpse at the potential future of this genre is still shitting on games that have come since

Second

The shooting is more than functional, and you never played Crysis because the gunplay was the tits or something, the stealth is a complimentary mechanic at best, and it's true joy is that it can be done on the fly. Aging? Yeah the second blows monkey dick, mega monkey dick, the type of monkey dick reserved for astronomical bullshit that isn't worthy of defense, but somehow you always find that crazy person that says "no bro, that part totally wasn't that shit". Be it planet scanning in Mass Effect 2, The Library in Halo, the scourge of modern gaming that is cinematic walking.

But yeah having a setting that actually isn't static and responds to gun fire and basic physics, scenarios that allow you to get very creative and think outside the box without an Ubisoft checklist attached to it, and oh by the way there is always Delta difficulty, yeah the game is still delivering those buzzwords "dynamic" and "emergent' a hell of a lot harder than most modern FPS games. Plus Warhead exists, where Crysis is merely really good (and yeah I would argue that first half is hardly aging, but that's because I wildly disagree with wildly aging. It's more limp gunplay was always there and should have always been knocked for that, people just excused it because pretty), Warhead I would argue is absolutely worthy of being great.

The more focused nature improves the games overall pacing, even if they don't like the "well it's more linear than Crysis", the nanosuit is still bitchin, the aliens are more enjoyable to fight (read improved, not necessarily a great enemy), and it has all the strengths of Crysis 1, without the big **** up where the 2nd half is total bullshit.

In contrast to FPS I've gotten since where the best this space has had to offer on the gameplay front (at least single player wise) are.....Resistance 3 and Wolfenstein?

That's what happens when you build a game and an engine to be future-proof, rather than building it to suit the trends at the time.

What the hell are you talking about? Lots of PC games look better. Crysis 2 looks better (DX11). Crysis 3 looks better. He isn't using Crysis 1 as an example because it's still the best looking game available on the PC (or any current platform for that matter), but because of it's AGE relative to its looks/interactivity. And while his point is exaggerated, he does have a valid one. Crysis had an immense technological edge over anything in the market for years and years. STILL many games don't match the level of detail and dynamic destructibility that Crysis did 8 years ago, and frankly that's kind of sad.

"According to The simExchange, the NPD Group reported that Crysis moved 86,633 retail units in the first two weeks of its release in North America,[54] but while it beat their expectations, the sales were considered disappointing overall.[55] Two months later, on Electronic Arts' earnings conference of the quarter, it was reported that Crysis had reached the 1 million units mark, and that it had exceeded their expectations.[56] On the other hand, Cevat Yerli stated during an interview with PC Play in April 2008 that he was disappointed to see the game leading the charts in piracy and because of that his studio would not produce any more PC exclusives, as he believed a game such as Crysis would sell four to five times more copies if it was released on consoles.[57] Piracy figures released by TorrentFreak indicate that Crysis was indeed one of the most pirated PC games of the year.[58] In June 2008 Cevat stated that while their hopes have not been met, the game has reached their real expectations[59] and in August he added that despite its million budget the game has turned profitable for them.[60] By May 2010 the game has sold over 3 million units (and its standalone expansion about 1.5 million units)[61] making it one of the best selling PC games of all time."

I guess there isn't much to brag about for PC gamers if all they can talk about is old games

... And it still looks better than almost everything on PS4 and Xbox One.

You must be smoking crack.

**** outta here with your last gen PS360 port garbage LOL!

Infamous is a really fun game with beautiful visuals but it is very inconsistent at times. I wouln't say it's graphics beats Crysis. You deliberately picked the worst possible screenshot to show off Crysis while using the best for infamous. Please don't say the Order 1886 looks better than Crysis.

The Last of Us Remastered and Uncharted 4 certainly looks better than Crysis...

Crysis gives you many options to approach a situation, but it's still more efficient to simply shoot your way through every situation. In a game where the shooting is a little flat, that's kind of a problem. Sure, it's cool to set up traps with C4 or throw barrels at enemies, but that stuff is more funny than effective. I feel like other games over the years have made dynamic gameplay better. Switching between different types of guns and mechanics (action and stealth) is a lot more fluid in modern games.

FPS games? I think that's a meaningless distinction. If you were to say shooters, then I would say MGS5, Vanquish, Max Payne 3, Far Cry 3, S.T.A.L.K.E.R games, etc. all deliver far more engaging experiences.
