So do people realize that the Xbox was the best system last gen yet?

Just wondering if because of their new systems Cows and Sheep had a new appreciation to how awesome the Xbox was. A couple "next-gen" features that the Xbox had are listed below that I just wanted to reiterate.

Online play - The Xbox had/has great online play. Sports, racing, shooters etc. XBL on Xbox is still better online then the Wii has. Comparable to PSN though PSN is better with home and downloadable titles. Still do you guys see how awesome it was last gen playing online with people? I know PSN was up and had a couple games (Socom comes to mind) and GCN had Phantasy Star. But neither was near the level of XBL.

High Def Graphics - Well Sheep might not know too much about this one either as the Wii doesn't even have the HD capability's that the Xbox had, but close enough. Last gen almost every (or every?) Xbox game was available in at least ED 480p. Lots of games did support 720p or 1080i also.

Built in system Memory - Xbox was the fisrt console with a harddrive. It was great no longer using (& Losing)memory cards. I'm sure you guys are loving this now too.

Xbox-type games - This one is more for the Cows. Last gen Tom Clancy games on the PS2 where a joke. Now you guys get to play the REAL Rainbow 6, etc. Also Western RPGs like ES III & Fable weren't on the PS2. PS3 is still lacking slightly in this area, but you do get great WRPGs like ES IV & Fallout 3. Really going back to the online thing isn't it awesome playing games like Burnout, CoD, etc online ?!

I doubt that the Xbox will ever truly get its props for how great and advanced this system was. So I would imagine most responses to this will either be that I'm a blind fan boy or that PS2 owns all. Well I disagree with the later as far as the former I have owned all 7 consoles from the last 2 gens (DC,GC,Xbox,PS2,Wii,360,PS3), so...

So does anyone have a new appreciation for the Xbox?

I do, & I agree with you in all of your points. But it also has to have the gaming library, & PS2 has that.

hmm.. I bought a ps2 because of the games, not because of its power. the xbox just didn't have so many nice games as the ps2

the games and sales were a different story.

plus i hated the xbox controller, absolutely hated it.

No sorry, PS2 is. The PS2 had one of the best game libraries ever so that's why it's the best. But Xbox was great for multiplatform, online, and shooters.

most of that stuff came with or you could get for ps2 as well.

besides, ps2's monster library of awesome games says hello. i'd rather have a ton of excellent games than a couple handfuls of good games with online.

Technologically yes, but it's exclusives were few and far between, and Halo 1 still sucks.

PS2 is easily one of the best systems of all time (mostly due to it's game lineup), the Xbox wasn't even close.

It may have been large, but it was also powerful compared to the cube and PS2.

Actually, I came to dislike the Xbox now and appreciated it more back then.

Also, EA was Online exclusive on PS2 for years before EA went to Xbox Live. So, if you wanted to play Madden, Fight Night, FIFA!, NHL, Tiger Woods, NBA Live, Need for Speed online,SIMS, PS2 was the only console for that.

I mean, if you were an EA and SPORTS fan, PS2 was where it was at! Really EA (Sports or NON Sports, as SIMS was also Online) fans needed a PS2 for great online gaming....and all EA games supported Voice Chat.

I haven't turned on my Green Halo Xbox since 2005, its just a dusty machine now, but my PS2 get's play even today. Partially because I don't want to wear out my BC enabled PS3...and partially when I rent an old DVD, I use the old PS2 again.

The Xbox just aged poorly imo.

It was NEVER the best system last gen, but for FPS fans, I can see that. I have over 100 Xbox games, and Live was fun, but it never "Killed" the competition.

Live is ALSO WAY BETTER THIS GEN than it ever was last gen.

I remember wanting to play Madden with some buds over Xbox Live, but we gave up eventually waiting, and bought the PS2 versions instead...of course, years later me and my mates finally did play Madden on Xbox Live, but PS2 having all those EA games was a big win back then (Forced a lot of Xbox guys to buy the PS2 version). EVERY SINGLE EA game supported Voicechat and were fun.

I did enjoy my time with RAINBOW SIX, HALO 2, SPLINTER CELL, and GHOST RECON back then, a lot. Lot's of good memories. I had a lot of fun with SOCOM too.

I'm glad EA made the switch though, especially as this gen it's been great.

I'll agree... I loved the original xbox. I'd like to make a point too.

I remember when people complained about how the ps2 was holding the xbox back in terms of multiplats, now ps3 fans are complaining about 360, though the power difference between ps2 and xbox was much larger. Just look at splinter cell, then that horrible chud of a port ps2 got. point is, everything comes around full circle.

My best friend was a Sony Fanboy that jumped ship to Xbox and never looked back when he saw me playing Mechassault on LIVE.

It was pretty amazing even then.

it seems to me that during that time (Xmas 2002-Early 2003) your friend was easily impressed. I too enjoyed my time with Mech assault on LIVE (it was practically the only Live game worth playing back then), but I also was playing PS2 Online Exclusives like Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3, Twisted Metal Black Online and SOCOM back in 2002! as well...I played a LOT of PC like Counter Strike back then as well.

Rainbow Six on Xbox Live was a blast, but overall, the service wasn't very great at first. Your friend was just easily impressed, I guess...probably due to underexposure on his options.

Perhaps your friend never even played SOCOM when it first came out (after all, it was ONLINE before LIVE ever existed.). If he missed SOCOM prior to Live's existance, he may have assumed PS2 didn't even have online games, let alone Voice Chat enabled ones. Playing SOCOM definitely was cool, and esepcially knowing that Xbox and GC didn't have Internet games while SOCOM first came out, was cool too.

All EA games being exclusive on PS2 meant that sports gamers would be playing NEED FOR SPEED, FIFA!, Tiger Woods, Madden, NBA Live, NHL, etc only on PS2, and those all had Voice Chat. Perhaps your friend wasn't aware of all his options?

It's circumstantial evidence, we all probably could produce "friends" as evidence if needed.

What I will say is that LIVE was a good service back then, but it wasn't exceptional till this gen. Last Gen, the coolest feature was Voice Chat. Not Party Chat, or Private Chat.

Just a typical Voice Chat we see in every PS3 game these days.

Owning all systems doesn't mean you're not a fanboy. BSO is clearly the biggest lemming on this forum and he owns all systems so thats a perfect example.

Anyway, Madden has been online for PS2 since 2003, the same with Xbox I believe. I remember when people were discussing the differences between Madde 2002 for PS2 and Xbox and the only difference was better graphics.

Infact, now that I have done some research I don't see any mention of Madden 03 for Xbox having online.

Only console i never got was Xbox, Didn't like it and that controller was huge!

yeah the first gen controller was attrocious. big as jupiter but the second gen controller for the xbox is almost the same as the 360 controller now. i didnt buy the xbox until AFTER they fixed that problem...
