How would someone even kill PC gaming? There is no single target to take out, unlike consoles.

The PC is a collective i.e.
1. adapts and assimulates technological distinctiveness e.g. EV6 bus, EV7 (AMD's Hypertransport), Rambus, VLIW, RISC, SIMD, data parallel processing model, flat memory address model, 32bit computing (GPR), 64bit computing (GPR), HPC/Super-computer, low power consumption and 'etc'.
2. no central node or controller.
The PC is not like 3DO (yet another clone hardware reference standard).
Let's see here:
-Microsoft completely abandoned PC gaming
-Recently, Capcom decided to make high-quality ports of their console games, starting with Lost Planet, although now, they appear to have given up on PC, going as far as pretending they never ported Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter 4, and Dead Rising 2.
-The Ubisoft DRM
-Some developers probably laugh at the thought about computers playing games. Square-Enix and Platinum Games would be good examples of these devs.
-Where is HL2Ep3?
At this point, I still say that VALVE MUST BRIBE THOSE CRITICALLY-ACCLAIMED CONSOLE-CENTRIC COMPANIES TO PORT THEIR GAMES ON PC!
Am i seriously the only person who thinks PC gaming would benefit from getting Red Dead Redemption, Vanquish, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Metal Gear Solid?

On the bolded part, don't Sony and Microsoft bribe devs to make games on their platforms...?

not only that but Valve bribing other devs?:? lol that doesnt make sense[QUOTE="mitu123"]
Whoa, that's ingame?Hakkai007
Yup it's ingame.
It seems better every time I see it. I think TW2 has GOTY 2011 already won. We'll have to see what kind of game Zelda Wii turns out to be first though.
I believe no such thing. The fact that PC gaming gives you access to new and old games for little money should, if anything, add to its ability to stay alive., The library is simply too vast. You have services ranging from GOG to Steam with lots inbetween. You simply cannot kill something so grand.
Only not very bright people or console kids like to say that PC gaming is dead... All that happened was the screamers went to xbox and left PC alone and turned it into a nice little haven.JohnF111
It's great aint it? :D
People like a housemate of mine who would rather pirate everything or buy second hand as opposed to buying The Orange Box for a measely 4.25£ (recent deal on Steam) are thankfully in the minority and it will hopefully stay that way. Those are the types that pose a threat, albeit a minute one.
I just got this slamming new xps 15 laptop that I am loving. This is the first gaming computer I've ever owned and it's really the bee's knees in my eyes. The hardware is comfortable w/ an i5 clocked at 2.53, 4g of ram and a 1g nvidia card.
So it's not dead to me. I'm just now discovering how wonderful it is. I hate games for windows live with a passion though.
By people, you mean console fanboys. And by claiming you mean trolling.[QUOTE="Mystic-G"][QUOTE="HaloinventedFPS"]
people keep claiming PC gaming is dead/dying, so yeah, what do you think?
HaloinventedFPS
not always trolling,a few companys have said PC gaming is dying/dead
A few companies also say PC gaming is thriving. Your point? If my memory serves me correctly, PC Gaming had been dying since when? 1990? .. I feel old now..
It's alive and well, it's simply changing into different direction. Direction consoles will follow in couple of years - digital.
Just because it's not advertised on TV all week long, it doesn't mean it's nonexistent.
I think its just changing, console gaming will sort of turn into pc gaming, or so I think. I don't think PC gaming will ever disappear, but I think its hard to refute that big name titles are not as common on PC as they used to be. Before you give me the number of released on PC, half of those are casual games, so don't give me that crap. There will always be games like Crysis, but I think they'll become less and less.

If anything, consoles have starting becomming more and more like PC. It'd be the other way around if something like that was to happen.

Yeah, I got it mixed up, my bad.For the most part, I understand some people do not like to play on PC as others do not like to play on consoles (understandable in every way), but there is really no point in trying to find a factor of death for PC. If anything, PC has literally outlived multiple consoles in the past (I do not mean console companies, do not get those two mixed) as the older consoles have literally lost all developer support, or in the words of the posters, died.
People say all the developers are "abandoning" PC for console developement. I asked this question before and I never get a reply, but I want to know who left PC in favor for consoles. I do not mean going multiplatform, porting games from consoles to PC, or having never developed for PC in the past. I'm asking who straight up dropped developing on PC like a rock for consoles only.
Off the top of my head, I know that PC has earned more developers this year such as Blue Castle Games (I think they're fairly new) with Dead Rising 2, and Atlus (I don't think they have ever developed on PC before) with what appears to be their sucessor to Demon's Souls. I don't remember the name though. Using the posters' definitions, I would say that is the opposite of dying.
I am not trying to be smart about it or anything, but I hear a lot of people say it often, so I would like to know who left because I play on my PC more than my consoles and I'm unaware of who left.

Not as long as Nintendo is around! :x
As long as people like Valve survive, PC gaming will too. Steam goes down, PC gaming will go down with it, especially in Europe and NATheOtherTheoGif steam goes down, someone will take their place. Kind of like when sega went down, then came microsoft.
well more games is always good, but japanese games usually sell best in japan... a country where pc gaming never caught on. Red Dead Redemption probably had alot of money involved behind the scenes from microsoft and sony, vanquish despite positive reviews isnt a very good game which translated to poor sales, final fantasy 13 was terrible and so is 14 (although I hear its getting better, and fyi is pc exclusive right now), metal gear solid 4 was ps3 exclusive im guessing to keep kojima happy, and kingdom hearts hasnt made an appearance on anything but handhelds since last gen.Let's see here:

Now on to pc, starcraft 2, wow: cataclysm, amnesia the dark descent, Stalker Call Of Pripyat, Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, Civ 5, Dawn of War 2: chaos rising... just unbeatable by any other platform.
atleast they dont try to sell us "remakes" that are really just the same game rendered at higher res lol. It's alive but it sucks with Backwards compatibility at times. I can't play logical journey of the zoombinis. :(

PC backwards compatibility is superior to that of consoles, you cannot really criticise it for not being able to run a 1996 game.
None of the consoles offer that sort of backwards compatibility, but PC can go way back if you're determined.

AnnoyedDragon
How is it on life support? Who is giving the support?
I can point to consoles and say that right there, PS3/360 are on life support; with the evidence being the 1st party supplementing their exclusive line-up.
What do you point to on PC?
more like its got a few limbs missing, while i know pc gaming is far from dead, its audience is a bit more limited since certain genre's that were very very prevalent before are now being shared heavily with consoles. Not to mention big things don't happen on PC as much unless it involves WoW or FarmvilleI don't think it's dead but I can certainly see why looking from the outside in people would think otherwise. Nor is it on life support, you have to truly look at the PC industry as a whole rather than just looking at just the games, and I know that sounds insane but stay with me here. Just last month nvidia released their latest graphics cards just mere months after they released a new generation earlier this year, AMD is slated to release a new set as well within the upcoming week. TBH a lot of us don't have the money to go throw down on a maingear, or an origin pc, or an alienware, so we learnd how to build one ourselves, there'd be no point for these companies to push out gaming tech this fast if there wasn't a market for it. The reality is there will always be a PC gaming market because that's where we make games to begin with, sure we don't have the big name pc titles but look at all the other underground stuff we get, the amount of indie developers that we have, hell there's an internet forum for indie developers for pc games. Alien hominid? Castle Crashers? Yeah the guys that made that made it on a PC, PC gaming won't die, it cannot die because you can't make a game on a console.
Only someone who has no idea what PC gaming is would say it is dead or dying. They do not understand. PC Gaming is limitless, and it goes leaps and bounds beyond anything. You can find the most amazing things in the vast world of PC gaming and some of it has nothing at all to do with the infrastructure that any console gamer would be familiar with.
Mods, download services that go above and beyond what you can find on consoles, and countless other little treasures to uncover as you search the net. These little things don't just apply to this generation of gaming, they stretch back years, and years.
The scope of PC gaming is unbelievable. You go to a website like Gog.com and you find an entire sub-culture for older games. From there you can explore the wonderful world of older games and the mods available there. It's way more user friendly than you'd think too. If PC gaming was dead or dying, it wouldn't be user friendly. There are millions of communities, countless little pockets of culture that carry their own particular interests that you can explore and become accustomed to.
PC gaming is way more limitless and open to doing whatever you please than any other form of gaming. I could say more, but I would only serve to rub in what I already have.
I will end by saying one last thing, when you take all the populations that PC gaming has and combine them the total is unbelievable. No matter how you skew the figures, you aren't going to be able to get a favorable outcome when comparing to consoles. If you do flat figures practically anyone who owns a PC partakes in some form of PC gaming, but even when you get into the more hardcore forms of gaming, you can compare to consoles and still see that PC will come out on top.
