Poll So how have you liked Overwatch Open Beta so far? Rate it 0-10 (only those who played it) (112 votes)

10/10 8%
9/10 23%
8/10 34%
7/10 32%

I am LOVING it. The PC version at least is very fun. Tons of different classes and map styles. My favorites are the tanks, they feel very new and different compared to TF2 heavy.

Yes this is a lot like TF2, but an evolution. It took 10 years but we finally have a successor to TF2. Surely better than yearly military rehashes, a once every decade evolution.

I've played several days for many hours, I give it a 9/10. Any console gamers can tell me how it was on PS4/XB1? I heard not as good due to it being mostly designed around superior mouse (sorry had to make it relevant to this board). Thoughts?

Also if you do like it, what is your favorite character? Mine is Reinhardt.

Except I hate CoD, and never once brought up Evolve or Hardline or Titanfall which are all also lousy in content. But your comparison to the content in Battlefield 4 is completely absurd when that game has a single player campaign, a bad one mind you, but also the maps are 20 times larger, and they don't all feel like the exact same thing with a coat of paint and some mixed and matched hallways, and they have destructibility and changing environments. Seriously, BF4 had 10 maps at launch but even the crappy ones were far more interesting than any Overwatch map. Plus the classes in TF2 and BF are bases, with the way the games are now you can mix and match all sorts of customization options to suit your style of play. On top of that the BF franchise has tighter gunplay with better hitboxes, as well as the combined arms aspect that allows it to stand out even when it's being iterated on year after year.

I'm sorry if my opinion makes you guys butthurt. I'm not even saying I don't like the game. It's fun enough that I've played maybe 8-9 hours of beta. I just don't think it currently has enough to carry it to me paying a 40 dollar price tag. Maybe some day down the line but certainly not at launch.

Your comment doesn't make me butthurt, I just think your "dearth of content for a $40 title" is super silly, particularly when it is sucking you in hard enough to put that much time in before it is even released. If you stopped now (which is unlikely) you would be at about four bucks an hour. That is a better content to value ratio then a lot of $60 dollar games, and you haven't even paid for it. Nonsensical is a really good word for your position.

Bringing up Battlefield's campaign is also pretty lame. It is bad, and doesn't add $5 worth of content to the game. It is an afterthought to mark off a check box and nothing else, most fans skip it. Claiming Battlefield or TF2 gives you more options to suit your style of play is really reaching. In Overwatch you can choose between flying, wall crawling, wall running with super speed, a couple of different types of teleportation, leaping... and some others I can quite remember, and that is just movement abilities.

Mostly it sounds like you might be a little embarrassed you are putting so much time into such a game about having lots of silly fun! Don't be! Being able to reverse time is way more interesting then unlocking three shot burst.

lol give me a fucking break. It's exactly BECAUSE I'm not paying for it and won't be playing past the beta that I'm willing to spend that much time on it. I keep telling you I think it's fun and there just isn't enough there. It's as simple as that. There is nothing to be "embarrassed" about.

8-9 hours isn't much at all for me over 3 days, and isn't much at all for a multiplayer game in its cost/time spent ratio. Comparatively, I binged about 20 hours of Dark Souls 3 during it's first 3 days.

Plus, it isn't even like I have some burning desire to play. I'm just logging in because my guild plays and I'm bored.

Okay, let me check my facts: You sit down with your friends and play this game for three hour blocks. The game is good enough to justify doing this several nights a week. On top of that, you have no better games to play? Sounds like a ringing endorsement, particularly when you yourself say you are not planning on stopping just yet. Given your habits, you might just sink twenty hours into this game.

That makes your "not worth $40" claim pretty nonsensical. "$40 is way too much money for many nights of fun with my friends" isn't a negative review. It is a cop out. It also seems like a really silly way to scare people away from a game. Is this like reverse psychology or something?

Yea, "I have nothing better to do" sure sounds like a ringing endorsement.

Jesus Christ how are you not getting this? I had fun, I didn't have enough to spend 40 dollars when I don't like the level of content. I'm playing because it's open beta and it's free. The end. I'm not scaring people away. I'm not pulling legs or fronting. I simply gave my opinion and frankly you're being a condescending tool right now, coming up with all these bullshit excuses for why I should think otherwise.

Yeah, I do think "I am going to spend several hours a day most days this week playing Overwatch with my friends because there is currently nothing better on the market" is a really solid endorsement. I also understand your position that despite all the time you are sinking into it, you do not think it is worth a discounted price. I think 10-20 hours having a blast with my friends is totally worth the price of a game. I am also pretty stoked that blizzard didn't tack on a bad campaign most people avoid in order to justify a sixty dollar price tag. That describes a great value in my book.

Which is why I stole the word nonsensical to describe your position. If that makes you so butthurt, perhaps choose nicer words for me to steal? I really wish more companies would follow suit. If EA ditched the phoned in single player and bundled the multiplayer/season pass for $60, They might actually be a solid value. Assuming they can get it working in the first month or two....

@Vaasman

At the end of the day the whole "Content" *opinion* is just a preference thing... people always brag about Halo/CoDS content when they release ... forgetting that they are on their 10th revision, TF2 has 9 year of updates etc... UT2k4 was on its 3rd revision. (Overwatch is launching with more than TF2 ... the unfortunate difference is Overwatch doesn't have the Source engine with tons of extra features all ready for people that want custom games in mind...)

But ultimately ... most people on those games end up playing 1 mode ... Team Deathmatch ... don't go pretending to me that UT2k4 Assault was popular ... it wasn;t ... it was a fraction of the community that played it to mess around in for awhile. Then there were the different little modes that got dwarfed by the standard deathmatch .... and in CoD, where you can even see how many people playing modes ... Team Deathmatch was 90% of the player base....

Just another example of gamers "not realising what they really want" .... the game modes play a very small factor into Multiplayer games... infact Multiplayer games with less modes do better..... look at the top current multiplayer games:

LoL , DoTA , CS:GO , Hearthstone etc .... all 1 trick ponies in the game mode departments ....

Now we can discuss player sizes ... and I will say that its balanced around 6 vs 6 and making a map larger is a S*it cop out that would work for battlefield or UT assault but NOT overwatch ... where you would start seeing duplicates of classes to the point of BROKEN.... (because skills/abilities are far more pronounced and exaggerated) This is also the case in TF2 ... oh sure, quite alot of casual kiddies like "16 vs 16 2fort FAST RESPAWN" .... but it becomes a s*it deathmatch fest ...... with no balance... and the game mode becomes broken. KEEP THAT IN CUSTOM , keept it out of quick play and ranked ... which is what the game is intended for.

Overwatch is designed with a tailored specific experience in mind, and they already stated they will add less strict modes over time through "CUSTOM GAMES" and eventually Private hosted customer servers... but they are not a focus .... because that isn;t the game.... its a design choice, not a lack of content flaw. This is the "Less is more scenario" ... where you pop on, play the game as intended and pop off.

Nobody is butthurt, I debated your opinion .... if you want to get upset about it then simply dont reply. instead of pretending we are rabid fanboys attacking your precious self.

I wish Gamespot allowed you to "view results" of the poll without voting. I haven't played it (nor intend to) but I want to see the results without voting. They used to have this functionality a few years ago, but they got rid of it for some reason. Such a stupid decision..

It's good, a lot of fun. I question some of the skill ceiling (the hit boxes are pretty fucking generous), and in a TF2 comparison the game has a lot more holes in comparison, but it's a lot of fun. A lot of my reactions to it are what I had about Titanfall. The thing that is supposed to make this game different, doesn't do enough to make me think it'll be something special, but it's actually fun and feels like breath of fresh air at the same time. It'll end up having more legs because of Blizzard, but point is it's shaping up to be good.

pretty much how i feel. i can't justify spending $40 on this with the limited content and lack of dedicated servers and mods. most matches felt like they were pretty much just rush to the choke point and nuke the enemy team, which creates very short and unsatisfying games. not to mention the apex of depth in this game seems to be whether or not you can use your abilities at the right time as opposed to mastering advanced techniques and mechanics like in TF2.

overwatch is fun when i'm bored and want something to hold my attention for 30 minutes at a time but i will never see myself sinking hundreds of hours into it like i have with TF2

I agree 100%. Theres an issue also with OVerwatch justifying its price overall. As i said before to some blizzboys , if this game was exactly the same but was coming from other developer than blizzard ... majority wouldnt even think to pay for it let alone play it .

But hey , if people think this worth their money , so be it. Its their $$ to begin with.

Game is fun but I would kill for dedicated servers, mod support and ranked servers. It is hard for me to justify the $70 AUS price tag on Overwatch without these features.

The shooting feels sloppy as f***, the movement is way to floaty, the characters have ZERO customization, and the visuals are worse than TF2 while managing to run worse than TF2. No way would I spend a dime on this, I MIGHT be able to overlook some of this stuff if it were F2P, but at full retail on consoles and $40 on PC I expect WAY more out of a pure multiplayer shooter.

6/10 at best.

It is no more an evolution than HotS is for the MOBA genre. They just stripped it down and simplified while simultaneously ripping half of their heroes directly from TF2 and removing all the customization that made them unique.

It has dedicated servers. Also, they are releasing a competitive mode soon.

I'd give it a 9/10. It's by far the best MP game I've played in years. I love TF2, so this is spot on for me.

No I didn't respond to most of that because I've already made my stance clear and it's obvious from the thread there are others who agree, so there isn't anything left for me to say. I think you need to get a grip.

its a good game and i'm sure it will be huge in e-sports i personally just dont like it much and prefer battleborn. i dont really find that many of overwatch's heroes fun to play and the mechanics for most of the characters arent interesting. some of the characters need to be nerfed a bit (tracer, bastion, mei) and then others have underwhelming kits (winston, symmetra) I'm sure thats due to synergy issues where they are supposed to be played paired with other specific heroes that directly benefit more from their tool sets, but just pugging matches and giving all the characters a decent amount of time thats how i felt.

I also didnt like overwatches reward system, seems kind just added on uninteresting fluff compared to battleborns loadouts and helix upgrades.

overwatch feels kinda like it should be free 2 play. it has less content than HotS

It's just brimming with so much charm and polish. The experience is very refreshing through and through, but it lacks that competitive edge, and it faces a bit of an identity crisis by emulating itself so closely to Team Fortress 2. Not to say that's a bad thing per se, but it could stand to use more deviations.

At any rate, I see myself getting it. But certainly not at full price.

I should clarify, I am looking for dedicated servers with a server browser list, not one you have to invite users via Battlenet. This is a very basic feature available in most popular FPS games.

I will also await the release of the ranked play to see if they have solo queues.

I've never played a MP shooter before (yep, no CS, no TF2, not even L4D) they are just not my cup of tea...but i decided to try this one because it's Blizzard and hey, it's free.

Anyway, the game is fun, really fun but it get's old kind of quick and the matchmaking is terrible, sometimes i get to face guys with so much more experience and it get's frustrating, but when both teams are equal, is fun and intense.

However, like i said, it get's old and i don't see myself getting the game right now because it feels lacking, however in a year (maybe less) the game will have much more content so who knows, maybe it wil be worth.

I have been playing it on X1 and love it. the variety of players just make the game interesting. I have been jumping between a few characters including Soldier 76, Widowmaker, Torbjorn, and Reaper.

@SerOlmy: The game runs fine and looks better than TF2. Why are you spreading lies?

7. It gets boring after a while. It looks great but hopefully they get more content such as a full campaign mode featuring the characters.

Game is fun but I would kill for dedicated servers, mod support and ranked servers. It is hard for me to justify the $70 AUS price tag on Overwatch without these features.

It has dedicated servers. Also, they are releasing a competitive mode soon.

I'd give it a 9/10. It's by far the best MP game I've played in years. I love TF2, so this is spot on for me.

I should clarify, I am looking for dedicated servers with a server browser list, not one you have to invite users via Battlenet. This is a very basic feature available in most popular FPS games.

I will also await the release of the ranked play to see if they have solo queues.

I can't remember the last game with this feature if we're being honest. Valve games maybe?

By what measure? The textures are muddy, the texture filtering needs to be maxed out just to not have distant objects look like they are made out of a solid pallet, and FPS get bogged down in heavy action. The only thing that looks objectively better in Overwatch is the character models.

Copied from my post in the PC forum

I'll be buying it at launch. I really love TF2, its my favourite game. But the community after TF2 turned F2P really pissed me off. Too many new players, people only going on Valve servers and trade servers and its competitive mode isn't out yet. Overwatch gives me that competitive edge I missed in TF2. Oh sure I can play the new mode coming to TF2 but will the community actually take it seriously? I also never saw TF2 as a 6v6 game(9v9 makes the most sense because ya know, it has 9 classes). Soooo Overwatch is just a new game like TF2 for me to hop onto and relive the days of when I had to learn the game and other players weren't just there to trade hats.

It's pretty good. I liked it more now than the Beta I played before. I'd say a solid 7/10. It's no Team Fortress 2, but I can see myself spending more hours on this than I currently have before I get bored with it. Not over 1000 hours like I did with TF2 as I think it'll be easier to get bored with Overwatch.

Meh, I hate most of the characters. Basically everybody except Hanzo and Bastion. And maybe Widowmaker. But all in all it gets boring way too fast like all multiplayer only shooters. It's always the same. Just can't stomach those for more than an hour until I fall asleep.

I think it's superior to TF2 in just about every way and is a evolution of the class/hero based genre of team based shooters..

@sSubZerOo:

That is a ridiculous statement. As a class based shooter the characters have less options individually and you have less options overall to counter play. Each hero has ZERO customization option, none. That is objectively worse compared to TF2 where each class has dozens of items with different benefits/drawbacks that can be used situationally. Even though there are more characters in Overwatch you still have fewer options than you do with 9 classes in TF2. This is further amplified by the low player count, with only 6 per side versus 12 (or 16) in TF2 you again have fewer option.

I said it before - Overwatch is no more an evolution of the class based shooter than HotS is an evolution of the MOBA genre.

Probably like a 7 or 8, game is a ton of fun but lacks content and depth, feels like a F2P game. Blizzard's ass design is also on point as usual, some talented artists there.

Favorite characters are Hanzo, McCree, and Widowmaker.
