So Its Been 10 Years...

Ten years ago to this very day Halo: Combat Evolved was released, and it has inarguably had an incredible influence on both the FPS genre and the gaming industry. Revolutionary is an understatement, this game changed peoples lives. If you really think about it, had Halo never come along, Microsoft's Xbox could have completely tanked, the Xbox owes its success to this one game. It truly is one of the most important games to come along in the past 20 years, just can't believe its been a decade already.

I miss the days when Halo was considered king. I was never a Halo fan but I did feel like the game was worthy of being considered that. CoD is not worthy of the title since the devs behind the games are hell bent on devolving the FPS genre as much as possible

need to slow down the releases. I like it more when it's 2-3 years apart cause i know they will knock it out of the park.

Halo was pretty epic :D. First time I looked up and saw the horizon of the Halo blew my mind :shock:

It did bring about a whole new group mindset for hate, so in a way it "changed the lives" moreso for those who haven't played it ;) :P

Played it and found it to be one of the most boring fps I have ever played.

It's one of my favourite shooters to date, though it didn't really change anyone's life. I agree that if halo did not exist, the microsoft's game division would be nowhere near as successful as today.

I don't know why everyone is making of the life changing coment in OP. I mean because of Halo the Xbox brand didn't fail; and it's because the xbox brand didn't fail that we argue PS3 vs. 360 all day in these forums so it has changed all of our lives here.

truth be told, I really do not see Halo as "revolutionary". It is just the flagship title of a certain console, and it executes the fundamentals of FPS gameplay extremely well.

Halo is great, don't get me wrong. But...simmer down, now.

You forgot the part where MLG was dumbed down to support halo and the rest of the casuals.

It changed my friends lives. I was one out of five people at my school who bought an Xbox with Halo and i had like four of my friends who were on the basketball team who got hooked on it like crack. After class i would say, "are you coming to play Halo at my house or basketball practice?" They all picked Halo and quit the team. (It took about a month for everyone to quit) Team was god awful after that which was hilarious. Soon after that they all bought Xboxes and were addicted to Halo during high school. Greatest gaming moments that have yet to be replicated.

I cant even remember how many lan parties we had at my home. Everyone brought their own tiny 13 inch TV's in my basement. It was ridiculous.

Yeah now. It knocked that casual crap off the main event. Are CS and Quake still part of MLG? I don't follow them at all.

If halo was multiplatform across the 360, PC, ps3, wii, and ds like call of duty is, then all those sales numbers for cod would seem like cheap change.

At the time my friend was down on his luck and drinking heavily. Halo changed his life.
