Well, it wasn't ten years ago today. It was ten years ago tomorrow. And in your case, TC, ten years ago two days after you posted.
Best shooter I've played, sure. But it wasn't ten years ago today.

Halo is still the only shooter i keep playing and have actual fun, than some boring shooting sessions in linear stages
My top shooter of all time, not by little, all other shooters mean nothing to me, it is that good
They nailed the fun factor and freedom in gameplay more than any shooter imo, which is what makes it so good
Halo CE remake was also an amazing idea and now a true next gen looking game

You mean this gen, and it's behind other FPSes on consoles.

You missed out on some fantastic shooters then. :P
It changed my life in that I have very, very fond memories of my middle school years going to Halo LANs and hanging with my buds. Also changed my preference of games and was the first game universe I really delved into.
Halo didn't make me want to find God or what have you, but in those critical developmental stages of my life, tastes and preferences were changed for sure.
Cheers to Bungie/343i.

I am seriously crying of laughter now.

why are you laughing?

Actually, just think of Roosterteeth. Those guys have their jobs because of Halo. That's actually pretty damn awesome. Halo really did change some peoples' lives.[QUOTE="ConsoleCounsla_"]Resistance > Halobalfe1990

Total bias. Anybody that says halo is bad is just wrong. You can say you don't personally like it, but it is a ver very polished game. Each design element is looked at thoroughly, and performed by talented individuals. It is one of the few franchises that reaches Nintendo level of game design. Saying it is bad is saying you don't support proper game releases/good game design.

Every Halo title has been a high quality release. Bungie don't half-arse things and 343 look like they've adopted that trait.
Stupid Americanisms like "trash" and "garbage" should never be used in the same sentence as Halo because it just doesn't compute.
Halo 2 had to be completely re-designed and rushed to market for a number of reasons and look how that turned out.My favourite Halo game. Shows Bungie's commitment to quality.

agreed and well said. It's one thing to not like the series, but to state that preference as an indication of the games design quality is.....well.....a lot of the non sense we see posted regularly here. Always knew this place was lacking in logic.HALO CEA.... Yeah Baby !!!!! :D
TC's seems like cool a cat but that won't save ya from me...
...beware !! :P
I see hyperbole still goes hand-in-hand with Halo CE. Not much has changed in ten years I guess.

[QUOTE="gamedude234"]we're talking about halo here, not CODfoxhound_foxHow many FPS games after Halo used regenerating health? Even when it didn't make sense? Halo was a good game... but how it influenced the genre and the industry was highly detrimental.
Health pick-ups don't exactly make sense either. Games are games, they're either realistic like ARMA, or they are not. I don't think health regen is any more ridiculous than picking up spinning red cross boxes.
I wouldn't go that far, in regard to two decades worth of titles - at all; you'd have to be damn short sighted, however it's influence for the genre is remarkable. Great game, still my favourite Halo title. It truly is one of the most important games to come along in the past 20 years, just can't believe its been a decade already.

It's actually quite easy to point out some glaringly bad aspects of its sequel and third title - and the first has some glaring faults here and there. Same goes with certain 'design elements' which weren't thought through at all on implementation (four player cooperative in the third), to others that are extremely meaningful. I wouldn't say there's a standard of 'Nintendo level of game design' as that's a company with a hugely different ethic, as to Bungie; and a company with its own issues for that matter. Is it bad however? Hell no.Total bias. Anybody that says halo is bad is just wrong. You can say you don't personally like it, but it is a ver very polished game. its been said time and time again in the industry that Halo has made fps what they are today on console and a LOT of influence on PC. Believe it or not HALO was OR is the granddaddy of the fps. I know there was quake,ut,and cs that were popular, but HALO passed them all in terms of user base and popularity. I still have my original copy of HALO CE I bought one week before the launch of the Xbox...OH and I still have my day one 1st in line xbox..great console.
You're wrong in every conceivable way, and musn't know surprisingly much about the medium of games, if you're going to dilute an entire genre for the sake of incorrect overstatements. It's perspectives like this which are entirely detrimental to great games like Halo.Believe it or not HALO was OR is the granddaddy of the fps.

first off: health packs don't make sense either. if your looking for realism in a videogame, your doing it wrong. plus it did make sense in halo.
secondly: your implying that regenerating health is a bad thing. How so?i quickens the pace of the game, and health pack games often have points where you have 1% health and keep respawning in front of enemies.

sorry bro..but im not wrong. AND its not opinion. Ive seen plenty of interviews with people on tv and online over the years that back up my comments. HALO CE made fps mainstream 100% AND its looked at as the one game that turned many PC gamers over to consoles.
Halo: Combat Evolved and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Two of the biggest revolutions the first-person shooter genre ever saw.

No you're wrong, and presenting a perspective of ignorance to the legacy of the genre. I was not saying what Halo didn't or did do, I am critising your own lack of any knowledge other then making ridiculous statements. Again, people like yourself actually do worse for good tiles like Halo; you're weighing good games down with your own perspective, fancy that.Well its only been 3 years and a few months since the best game of all time, Metal Gear Solid 4 came out.
Oh and this thread / your post is like a joke lol. Giving a game like Halo CE waaaay too much credit. Half life/Goldeneye/Doom/Half Life 2 >

Made FPS mainstream? So what were CS, Half-Life, Doom, etc before this period?! Please enlighten us oh wise one!To be fair, they're both as bad as each other really.

Hmmm....not really. Considering how easily accessible and how extremely popular the CoD games have become since CoD 1, Halo games really TRUMP the hell out of CoD in terms of quality.
I have heard a sh*t load of gripes, hate and criticism from many under 20 year olds, including my nephews, regarding the Halo games and how "difficult" the series is, and disturbingly, that speaks volumes about where gaming has gone.
I just remember buying the Xbox day 1 along with Halo since the library at the time was pretty small not knowing what the game was really like. Countless hours of LAN time with this game and buddies from school. Once it hit the PC and brought online support and some different maps plus the Custom Edition it was a lot of play time.
Couldn't get into he 2nd one as much and have barely touched the 3rd one and haven't even played any of the spin offs. I will still say that CE brought me tons of enjoyment when it came out though.

Wow have our standards dropped considerably.
People thought the same thing when Halo was in its peak popularity. And I wont be surprised if people down the road look lovingly back at CoD when the new popular thing rolls around.
But on topic, yes Halo certainly left a mark on this industry. It popularized console shooters, brought console online gaming out of the ghetto with Halo 2, saved the Xbox brand and most importantly they were good enjoyable games.
I dont necessarily like the influence that it had on the industry as a whole, but I liked the games.

I am wise thanks...You want proof go search the web..its more wise then even me.
OH and I never knew but about 2 people that even played those pc games back then..BUT everyone played and knew of HALO..yes im generalizing facts from my everyday life..

Yeah now. It knocked that casual crap off the main event. Are CS and Quake still part of MLG? I don't follow them at all.
I don't believe so and if they are they aren't broadcasted. I find it funny though how Halo was knocked off the main stage. Smartest move by MLG.Please Log In to post.
