[QUOTE="110million"] Also, you can play all of MGS4 as an FPS. abuabedI know that but it is not a FPS, that was my point :) I would be more interested in the first part of my quote, to know if you consider any game scary.

Well, 10 years or so ago when I played the first Resident Evil, it was scary but nowadays there is nothing that scares me. Maybe because I actually saw people getting killed and tortured in front of my face in real life that I got used to such situations, we could talk about it in GUFU's IRC if you want.

I would have been there for weeks trying to put down every sub genre. Prince of Persia could be a platformer, I said adventure for the sake of simplicity. Some would say Uncharted 2 is an Action adventure, some a 3rd person shooter. Some adventures could be acalled RPG's, and so on.
Actual Adventure Genre games are stuff like Monkey island, non of the game you listed could be considered adventure games.I'd call them P&C adventure. Kinda fits in with their PC preference, though they could perhaps work on consoles, too, if the console set were more into it.Though, I'm a little too scared of Amnesia and I haven't even played it yet. :P Might try out the demo though.
So I finally tried Recettear, I played the demo for an hour and now I bought the game. Supporting these kind of games is a very easy choice for me. The game is awesome. Also adventure games are indeed what people refer to as "point and click" adventure games, but that is what the main genre is. There are very few adventure games on consoles and that is that, shooting and stuff makes a game action-adventure. If I wanted to play an adventure game, Uncharted 2 would not satisfy that, nor would Metroid Prime for instance. 110millionI'm downloading it right now, will post impressions later..

Action-adventure is a genre, not subgenre. And if you would remove it then Metroid or Zelda would fall straight into action-genre as they play far more like action games than adventure titles.Adventure is a very nicely defined genre, Tomb Raider or Metroid just ain't part of it. Phoenix Wright is on the other hand.

I Will be buying it for my daughter, she loved it. Wasn't really my thing but i will give it another go once i get through my backlog of games. Really hope Amnesia sells well. Any news on how well it is selling? Heard the Devs really need it to sell well.
[QUOTE="110million"] Not enough to formulate an opinion on it though, until you actually play game, nothing you say actually matters. SC2 and Civ5 are insanely different kinds of strategy games, you can't just put them in the same genre and say SC2 is better. As for Recettear, lots of positive reviews from RPG sites and stuff, just because its an indie game doesn't make it crap. :|
As for Amnesia, the only thing you can compare it to is Penumbra, and its the same developer. Most other horror games in the last couple years have been a huge meh.

In the end both SCII and Civ 5 are Strategy games and what I said is that SCII has taken the crown for this genre, it doesn't matter how they differ because they belong to the same genre. Meaning if TC said Civ 5 will be the best Potato(as a genre) game and it is the only one this year then yeah I'd agree. I doubt Civ 5 can score more than 9.0 anyways.
As for Recettear: a game getting positive reviews doesn't make it automatic fun, a lot of other games get positive reviews yet you don't like them and on the other hand many other games don't get mentioned here but they become on of your favorites, it's just my opinion about it so I can't be wrong...neither you.
As for Amnesia, I have played it one my bro's PC for 4 hours and it is good, never said it was bad but it ain't the best, for this year it might be the best sure.
As I said those are just my opinions and they can change with time but for now my views stand still, I just don't like what I don't like.
i need to check out the JRPG. is there a demo? i wont be buying the horror game because im a wuss. seriously RE4 is too scary for me :(. i will be buying civ 5.....and then saying goodbye to friends and family as i know i wont see them again for months. oh i must also sort out my will :P.osan0
I got a demo from steam.
The amount of people playing Amnesia on steam isn't as high as recette, but I'm guessing that is most likely down to it being really scary. They did do the pre-orders from their own website and that reached their intended target. So all that money went directly into their pockets at least, but all we can do is wait untill we get some news from the devs I guess.I Will be buying it for my daughter, she loved it. Wasn't really my thing but i will give it another go once i get through my backlog of games. Really hope Amnesia sells well. Any news on how well it is selling? I have just finished playing the Demo of Recettear and I found it very boring, it is charming and all but it's not my cup of tea. Putting all of that aside I don't even think it will score higher than 7.5 here in GS.
I just don't like the Civ series so much, I only played Civ 3 and 4 and thought they were only good, this has nothing to do with GS scores, it is just my own preference.
Civilization 2 - 9.2
Civilization 3 - 9.2
Civilization 4 - 9.4
Civilization: Revolution - 9.0 on both platforms
I think its safe to say that if the new gameplay changes introduced in Civ 5 are good (which according to the Gamespot preview it looks like they are) then we're looking at potentially the best Civ yet. Starcraft 2 adds virtually nothing new to its formula and I still think while the gameplay mechanics have been perfected over a decade it's still just 1998 with a facelift.Ragingbear505
I know that it is loved by so many and it is technically awesome but I have a different opinion about it. It will score well I don't doubt it but in my book it is an A series.

So what? They still aren't comparable, as the games are nothing alike. I much prefer Civilization to Starcraft, but I'm not about to say it's better than Starcraft. I feel it's stupid to even group them together like that..it's like saying Gran Turismo is better than Grand Theft Auto or something.
Funny, the only game I like playing on PC is League of Legends. :lol:CBR600-RR
Tried hard to like this because a friend got me into it. Pretty boring game. Part of a bad, confused genre imo.

It is for DotA players after all, I think it's great. Can see why new players wouldn't like it.

Yeah my friend loves it. He'd played DotA before, and I hadn't.
I didn't have trouble picking up and learning the game (felt I did pretty well, even when joining up with high-ELO friends, therefore going up against people who had been playing far longer than I.)
It's more of a problem I have with perceived limitations imposed on a player..combat feels like it's less about individual player skill out in the field, and more about how you've chosen and built your character. The only thing that felt at all exciting and interesting was player movement and positioning. The rest of the game is really only about builds, how to counter them, and knowing what each character is capable of. The strategy elements should stay, but there's just not enough *interesting* action..maybe there's too much WC3 remaining or something.

Actually DOTA players would enjoy HoN more. But I wouldn't, the community in that game is terrible.[QUOTE="CBR600-RR"][QUOTE="Velocitas8"]

Ironically some of the best JRPG titles are on the SNES.
there have been some really positive movement on the front of bringing indie japanese pc games to english, with Recettear hitting steam I'm hoping it will open the floodgates for those types of localisations Yeah, that is what I'm basically hoping for. Its not like the gameplay from Recettear can't be found in other places, but it still feels quite unique. With indie games they can test new waters in ways big developers can't, since they usually can't afford to take such a risk. This is a major reason I love PC gaming.[QUOTE="110million"]So I finally tried Recettear, I played the demo for an hour and now I bought the game. I don't really dig survival horrors. Will playing Amnesia make me **** my pants if I thought Doom 3 was scary?

Doom 3 was ruined by teleporting monsters.
