Ok you can still just play on line for free. but the feature everyone was waiting for is going to cost you.

Looking at the pricing schemes their a few things that cow have attacked XBL for in the past like 'paid' subscribers getting content and demos to bump up the value of the premium and having facebook as a premium service too.

Also the "Member Only In-game Content

Get exclusive member-only in-game content for your PS3 or PSP such as new game play options, unlocked in-game weapons or player slots, exclusive levels, costumes/skins, and PlayStation Home spaces." seems odd. so if i don't subscribe i don't get the full content thats on the disk.

What's your thoughts. which tariff are you going to choose

The thing is MS should offer Online play for free!! If they did that then that SCEWED felling ya get for paying for something that comes on the disk would go away!!!!!

Sony will still offer the basic gameplay for free. If they want to charge for other things like MS then that is fine because its an OPTION, not a requirment to play online!!!

It really do depends on what options and weapons we're getting. If it's lame then I just wont buy it - I'll still be able to play online, they (hopefully) dont gimp the none-premium game so that you'll HAVE to paid in order to actually enjoy the game. I mean "pay for premium in order to unluck anything but Free For All in Call of Duty online" would be uber lame..

Agree too... as long as online play is still free then there is no problem... PS3 haters need to open their eyes and realise that while on 360 we have to pay for the most important feature XBL has which is letting you play online, PS3 looks like it will keep PSN main feature FREE (which again is letting us play games online)..

So fanboys shouldnt make a huge fuss out of these 'packages' which just offer some extra features... I thought people get consoles mainly to play games so shouldnt the most important thing an online service provide is LETTING US PLAY GAMES ONLINE?? (thought so, so in that case its still the same picture, PSN is Free while XBL is not)

It's still just a rumor until Sony confirms it themselves, and even if it is true, PSN as it is now will still be free.

I don't understand your complaint....nothing necessary to enjoy playing online has ever been charged, it is like cable television you can buy the premium package if yoyou so desire. in Home you can buy extras but can have a good time without paying anything. The same applies for online play...and who do you mean by "everyone" - certainly not me and I play upwards of three hours daily

hhmm you dont expect someone who pays an extra Fee only to get the same stuff as someone who doesnt right? otherwise whats the point of paying more..

Also MS has 1 charge which without it you can do practically nothing... Not being able to play games on a GAMING console online = NOTHING imo !!!

Who said anything about not getting the full content thats on the disc? That wont happen lol. It's probably timed DLC exclusitivity or something.#

And XBOX Live Gold membership doesn't offer much at all. Compared to what the premium options have.(if they are indeed true). An even better comparison would be XBOX Live Silver vs PSN Free. Hands down PSN wins.

My guess on the "Member Content" will be things like the like bonuses you get from Best Buy and Gamestop for pre-ordering your games from there. For instance, Gamestop gave the the Gigawatt Blades for Infamous for pre-ordering it there. With the subscription, you may just be bale to get that from the PS Store without having to pay for it. They also may do things like free DLC from 1st party exclusives or something like that

Another thing to consider, the PSN will still be free to play online. The yearly subscription is completely optional and you still get to enjoy the full game. XBL forces you to pay by locking out the MP section of games. Sure, not everyone plays online game, but the majority of them do at some point.

Do you think if MS offered free online and then had a separate features package like the PSN is offering that it would have the same amount as subscribers as it currently does?

if they keep online play free that'll be great, but lets be honest, if they start charging for sweet features, its going to be tough to pass up.

and if they start giving you options for a subscription service? thats so stupid, have ONE standard

Early access to demos/downloadable games/downloadable content: it was stupid when MS did it, and it's even more stupid now. If you're going to charge, make sure that you don't make your non-paying customers feel like second-class citizens - ESPECIALLY when the item in question either directly generates revenue (games/DLC) or leads to future revenue (demos). I think Sony should look at monetizing PSN through other means - for example, have tournaments and charge entry fees, sell cloud storage (an idea they're considering), or allow priority dedicated server access.

i don't play online, being able to play online is not required to play games on a gaming console

thats not the point, we are discussing online services so obviously those who actually play online are effected.. You dont play online, thats fine with me..

However what would be the MOST important feature for a gaming console's online Service?? I guess that would be having a solid online service/structure which lets you play your games online, am i right? In that case PSN lets you do that for free, XBL at an extra cost.. that was my point..

All the other extra features like Face book, Home,Voice chat, Netflix, Twitter,Web browser etc etc those are just additional features which are not essential to gaming, so if those require an additional fee, it wont matter much to many gamers who mainly use XBL & PSN to play their games online.. But having to pay for XBL in order to game online while all other systems on the marketoffer that for free, that is the the problem..

Well, I agree it doesn't ruin the game if you're playing the same game, but if you are playing the same game, it's unnecessary. It's disappointing that people may potentially have to pay for cross-chat, as it is an extremely useful and desirable feature.

As long as you guys get a service that justifies the price.

Stuff like dedicated servers, be able to sync your psp on the go trough a vpn tunnel with your ps3 (save games, remote play[a la on live, you stream the game from your ps3 to the psp]).

For that it's worth paying.

Now paying for party chat and p2p multiplayer, tsk tsk... Fail.

It's an option, don't pretend you wouldn't use it if you had it.

Nope, playing online [the main feature, and the thing that -should- be free] remains free. As for what we'll have to pay for? No one can be really sure, as surveys aren't exactly confirmation of a price plan/option structure. Cross Game Voice Chat will almost certainly remain free, as it is simply put, one of the most requested features for PSN, and the backlash from charging for it would be pretty damn big.

im sure a handful of pissed off teenagers shouting will be far out weighed by the big fat pile of cash sony will make by having a feature that makes it worth paying for the premium.
