What are you talking about. PSN is currently still free to use. Playing online, buying games, and downloading demos will still be free. The only thing that will cost is premium stuff that you don't technically need to enjoy on line gaming. The service is going to be like Qore where they have videos some select demos and occasional game betas.

So basically you pay for DLC? I thought you paid for that on top of the live fee in xbox live...

On PSN you can play online for free and download demos for free, that's all I really care about.

not really... did you see the feature list? first of all we just know the price is 20-70 bucks a year, it could easily still come out cheaper than live, and second, those features own live so hard. the argument before was always psn is almost as good and free, now it's free psn is almost as good and premium just plain owns live.

dont care about party chat, if thats what you are gettting, i get to play online for free. also party chat kinda ruins the online game TBH.InfiniteBlak

Unlike XBL, PSN is still offering all the major features for free, but giving MORE to people who want to pay. Unlike XBLG affording you something that should have been free to start and some other very useless, not worth paying for features.

Yes and no. Playing online will remain free and that PSN version will be barebones. The Premium PSN version with the annual fee looks like it will have all sorts of features PSN users have always asked for.

If that thread made earlier was legit, more than half of that garbage was pointless. cross chat isnt going to sway everyone into paying. And as long as its still free to play, thats what many actually care about. After all, its a main selling point. Over 30 dollars for psn is ridiculous.

I really hope this premium thing fails miserably so all gaming companies can see that online gaming should be free. Seems the only reason Sony is even charging is to attempt to nickel and dime suckers like the XBL players.

So essentially, Sony is doing what Microsoft should be. THey have made onlne play free, and are charging for the extra bells and whistles if people want to play for them...

Yeah, I really see no ownage here. Playing for free while paying for extra benefits sounds like the type of subscription Microsoft should have.

Really the only way this could be a bad thing is if Sony shoots themselves in the foot again by overcharging.

Im glad I pay for xbox live true gamers pay to play XD, like on the PC the best servers are always gamer paid servers. 1 vs 100 is worth playing alone.

I mean listen when you break it down. It's probably one of the cheapest things ever. But the thing is compared to free. I mean nothing for nothing. Is it better to have a service that has you pay for more options while staying free for the barebone. Or paying a pretty decent amount ( i mean think about it. As I said when you break it down it's 4.50 a month or whatever but that's also the cost of a new game you can purchase.) amount for everything, even having to unlock multiplayer?

howwwww, I play Battliefield 2 alot, and all the servers that are most populated are clan owned

So you're talking about one game? I have played many PC games over the years on free dedicated servers and they are always great and with lots of people. How is my experience worse than yours?

lots of servers are clanned owned, thats why they have mods most FPS have servers that are rented out from people. i have a friend whos in a clan that is paying for a server at arma 2. playing for a server IS different from playing online, im just saying someone always has to pay to play online

It's already shown to be an optional charge, and that the core service of PSN will not change for the free "version", as per this quote

"Sony is considering offering a premium PlayStation Network subscription in the future. The subscription offering would provide new premium features you could choose to pay for and are in addition to the features currently available for free such as access to online multiplayer gaming (current features would remain free)."

Wow... no it doesn't... the worst thing about MW2 is the lack of party chat in the major modes. Maybe it is because I prefer ONLY playing with friends when I play online, but if I play solo, im hardly using my headset unless the people aren't douchebags.

Oh my word. Anything can change, I mean Live Gold could become free tomorrow. Will it happen? Probably not.

That is an indication, if not proof that PSN will remain free for the foreseeable future.

TC, PSN is free. When the service launches, I could still make an account and play online. I will be able to do anything I can do now, for free. If I can pay a little more for early access to betas and get a 3 year warrenty, why not pay? Its a bonus, not a necesity.

The thing is MS should offer Online play for free!! If they did that then that SCEWED felling ya get for paying for something that comes on the disk would go away!!!!!
Sony will still offer the basic gameplay for free. If they want to charge for other things like MS then that is fine because its an OPTION, not a requirment to play online!!!
