So the video game critic over at Forbes just absolutely ripped Sea of Thieves apart.

Look at those bullet points. And that last line is devastating. I'm thinking this isn't a good sign, lol.

But seriously, this just further proves how important good exclusives are for a console. The XB1/X1X is going to get a black eye over this game. If I were a fan of the system, this would be unacceptable.

• All three factions feel the same with nearly identical, radiant fetch quests that have you go to X island to get X thing and return without sinking/dying. Raids are just some waves of skeletons.
• The islands are almost entirely lifeless. You can see them all in about a day of play, and they almost never house anything interesting other than your quest objective, however pretty they may be.
• Enemy variety is almost non-existent, skeletons, snakes and an "endgame boss" kraken that has already been turned into a meme by players, as the thing is just tentacles with no actual body lurking under the water. Perhaps a metaphor for the entire game.

Sounds like a disaster. I was gonna download it when I get home today using my 14 day trial of Gamepass but I’ll hold off as I hear you can’t even get into servers right now if you’re new. Makes you wonder what Rare and MS have been doing for the past 4 years.

The best thing about Sea of Thieves for MS is now they can quietly cancel Crackdown 3 since everyone is too busy laughing at this joke of a game to notice.

@quadknight: Titanfall 2 was very good. Would you put it above Uncharted 4, Dark Souls 3, Doom, Inside, Hitman, Overwatch? I could see putting it over UC4 and Overwatch, but that’s it.

I don’t understand how Rare or any video game company can sell an online only game for $90 Canadian and not allow new players to play it.

It's sad when we need 5+ threads regarding the game. Holy shit. It isn't gonna set the world on fire... I think everyone gets that.

I see it getting slammed and rightfully so, the game is so much fun with friends but even then only for a short amount of time. It could be a great game in 6 months to a year but it's sold as a finished product so it should be rated as such.

Titanfall 2 is a lesson to every other dev. 'This is how you make an FPS game'. That's GOTY worthy to me. UC4 is Uncharted as it always was and always will be. DS3 is basically the Bloodborne version of DS. Doom v Titanfall 2 sorry no, just no and similarly LOL to both Hitman and Overwatch even being in the same sentence as TF2.

Forbes is right, the game was all lem hype.

3/21/2018 - The day Cows became cool with Titanfall 2 winning a GOTY award over UC4. All in an attempt to give credibility to a shit source who killed an Xbox game.

The mental gymnastics at his place are medal worthy. I was here in ‘16 hyping Titanfall 2 and none of you assholes were there fighting on my side then. So I’m not gonna sit by and watch everyone play these games now

Titanfall 2 isn’t my type of game so I would pick UC4 and DOOM over it for GOTY but just because it isn’t my type of game doesn’t mean I’m not objective enough to realize it’s a quality game in its own right. @goldenelementxl: What source? You mean GS? I stopped relying on GS a long time ago. I go by YouTube and MC these days and the game has been getting completely rekt on YT by the reviewers I usually visit. MC reviews are few but they are mixed so far.

Are you talking about me? I played the game for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was stunned at how good it is. So I'm not going to lie about how good it is so you can call me a 'cow' or some other juvenile bull (PC, PS4 and Xbox owner here write it down so you look less stupid in the future). I only replied to you because you attempted to discredit the reviewer because they gave TF2 GOTY now you are saying you were the f***ing cheerleader for the game all along.

lol that's fine, he's free to give his opinion, even if it is only after a day the game launched and he couldn't have possibly been through it all. Clearly this is not the type of game for this kind of gamer, nor did it try to be that game with a clear and elaborate progression system, leveling up system, prestige modes, stats, etc. many other games out there with all that stuff, I have many sitting in my backlog.

I'm enjoying it for what it is and I accept that it wasn't tailored specifically for the hardcore gamer, I knew that from the beginning. It's a unique experience for me and I think it's great, lot of others feel the same too....I wasn't expecting this game to take on the world at all, and this is one of the few games that came out recently that I really want to play with some friends of mine and family members due to its accessibility. I never got into the other sandbox game, Minecraft, but I love the core gameplay of SOT. I look forward to playing it more and seeing it evolve over time, and if Rare wants me to spend more time in it, then they need to put in the effort with constant updates and such just like any other MMO game out there.

It's a marmite game. I happen to love it so far, but it's way, way better with three friends. Server issues seem finished, but there are some nasty bugs that need ironing out.

It's a perfect advertisement for gamepass.... If I didn't like it, I move on to the next game at no added expense. I do, and it's convinced me that services like gamepass are the future of gaming.

@goldenelementxl: They usually use MC scores and believe it or not CG Magazine is included in MC. I agree it’s a bit early to call it a flop based on MC alone but we have other sources like YouTube and it’s not getting rave reviews from the reputable YT reviewers out there. One can put two and two together and come to the conclusion that this game is an impending flop.

If this thread has shown me anything, it's that it's been too long since I've thrown in "Titanfall 2." Such a great game.

It’s sad to see, as I think this could have been a very good game. It needed to be ready to go right from the start, and it wasn’t. People will lose interest fast, and it’s going to be hard to win them back later.

It makes me wonder what Rare was doing all this time. It’s been in development for awhile, and there’s hardly anything there.

The game is just okay. It is a nice looking game with not much to do. I am more of a solo player so it isn't the game for me. I hope other people find enjoyment in it and I will check it out in a 3/6 months. That is the great part about Game Pass for me. :)

More damage control. Its the biggest exclusive MS has released in more than a year and it’s flopping. If the roles were reversed and it was Sony in MS’ position you can’t lie and tell me lems wouldn’t do the same. The only reason you’re crying about it is because lems are on the receiving end. This place is called “System Wars” for a reason. Threads like this is why this forum was made.

Things don’t look good for both MS and Rare. Is a shame that the game went through so many delays and end up with such a score.
