*The average COD has 15 maps excluding DLC.Lol your average CoD has what? 5-7 maps in total? Playing the same maps thousands of times over hardly amounts to more content. But yeah, let's not forget overpriced DLC map packs.. That's totally not milking right?  Mindlessly grinding your prestige levels just so you can put your clan logo on the back of your gun? Whoopied frikkin doo. So very rewarding and fulfilling and not a waste of time at all.
Crossel777
No one is arguing that COD is not milked, get that straight.
I don't know if this was accidental or deliberate but everything you just said applies to pokemon.
The entirety of the game can be summed up as mindlessly grinding your way to the end.
So very rewarding and fulfilling and not a waste of time at all.
That's just the main line. Count the Mystery Dungeon, console and other handheld spin-offs and watch the number explode. Nintendo are the kings are milking period and no one will EVER come close unless Nintendo goes out of business..FlamesOfGreyMmmm, quality Nintendo milk. To be fair, if any company has lasted as long as Nintendo did, we would be bashing them just as much for milking. By your logic, Sega should be bashed for milking Sonic front to back with spinoffs and platforming games of dubious quality.

The gaming industry especially now is seeing more sequels then ever from the biggest companies. Nintendo are still the kings and all their games aren't quality.
Why do people overlook this and complain about EA and Activision's year releases? It seems there's a humongous double standard when it comes to these practices. Anyone agree or disagree? I actually didn't realize until I saw that X/Y thread and decided to look it up, nintendo are seriously the worst when it comes to milking.
GD1551
People [on here] use the term milk/milking in such a negative light so often that they do not want the negativity from the word to be associated with the games they like. That's probably why the double standard exists. Contrary to the popular opinion here, milking does not automatically equal bad, immoral, or wrong. A game can release often and still be good. It's usually only bad when the fans start seeing a decline of some kind in a game series that may lead to its quick end (e.g., the late Guitar Hero). Someone shouldn't avoid playing a good game just because they feel the series releases games too often for that individual.

All in one year.
I don't disagree that Nintendo milks their franchises, but what I give them credit for is that at least when you buy a Nintendo game you're getting a complete product.
Other companies actually plan DLC from the earliest stage of development for a game, so you end up buying a game for $60, and then if you want to complete the game you can only do so with an additional $20-$30 in purchases. That's just lame.
Almost anything that is highly successful will be "milked" and its not always a bad thing either.
When will SW figure this out?
Nintendo does it. Â Sony does it. Â Microsoft does it. Â Plenty of 3rd parties do it as well.
In some cases its just milking a character or brand name. Â In some cases its milking the same old gameplay over and over again. Â Sometimes its fine like that. Â Sometimes it gets increasingly stale and dies out.
But if people want to buy more of a product then you sell them more of a product. Â WHY IS THIS SO HARD TO FIGURE OUT?
Each gen = 1 game to me. No reason to buy more than 1 version. I honestly don't care if a game gets milked, as long as it's fun.

Of course this is an obvious double standard.
What's worst is that you'll just see people respond with generic cop outs like "but the gameplay is good."
That same line of thought can be applied to literally every COD, Madden, Dynasty Warriors, Assassins Creed and other games that get bashed to death for being milked.
13 games in 15 years though....
That's f*cking insane!

Its more like 6-8 games btw. The TC is counting both A and B releases for each game. That's like saying Nintendogs has had 6 installments when only two games are in the series.
I'd say that's even worse milkage because they force the fans to buy the game twice to get the complete package. Is that you? lmao... Man, that is one of the funniest sigs I have ever seen. props. Dude is jettin... :P

Because really the only message you guys are sending with that is that Pokemon is on the same level as shovelware.
can you even imagine the outcry if anyone else made two versions of the exact same  game them put a half dozen collectibles in two different versions and marketed it as gotta collect em all?
people would be livid. over at the poke conglomerate that shyt is business as usual.

Those mechanics can be implemented in a variety of ways though, and offer an element of surprise in each game. With Pokemon, I already know I am going to choose my starting Pokemon, train them by grinding, fight element based gym leaders, get more pokemon, and do the final four. I just seems like its the same game every time just with new Pokemon.

The idea of the thread is to talk about how frequently a game in a franchise comes out, not the quality of said games. I used that list because I think it accurately defines what milking really is, core franchise or not. I could have easily just as well used a list of Guitar Hero games, with about 4-6 games coming out each year since 2007 - 2008 up until its end, unless we decide to consider that shovelware too.

I was gonna say, unless you're deeply troubled or spoiled, you don't buy EVERY copy of every generation of pokemon games.Â
Yellow/Red/Blue/Firered/Leafgreen: Gen 1
Gold/Silver/Crystal/Heartgold/Soulsilver: Gen 2
Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald: Gen 3
Diamond/Pearl/Platinum: Gen 4
Black/White: Gen 5
(I'll even give you Black/White 2 as a separate count here): Gen 5.5
Unless you're damaged, you didn't buy every single copy of the games that were released. You either bought one of the original games or waited for the inevitable 3rd game to come out.Â
The games within each generation are in my mind counted as a single game because they were identical aside from the remakes and the different pokemon present within the games. If you really want to count every canon title as a different, unique title and compare it to a series like COD I guess that's your prerogative.Â
