So... what does Xbox's exclusive lineup even look like at this point?

Presuming we could Xbox One/Windows 10 games as Xbox exclusive, this is the state of the exclusive lineup for Microsoft's console:

  • Sea of Thieves
  • Halo Wars 2
  • Crackdown 3
  • Cuphead
  • State of Decay 2
  • Below
  • Gigantic
  • Ashen

That's it. That's all the exclusives that are coming to Microsoft's system. Contrast this with PS4:

  • Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
  • The Last of Us Part 2
  • Gravity Rush 2
  • Detroit: Become Human
  • NieR Automata
  • Nioh
  • Horizon: Zero Dawn
  • Gran Turismo Sport
  • Dreams
  • Persona 5
  • Ace Combat VII
  • WiLD
  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake
  • God of War
  • Days Gone
  • Yakuza 0
  • Spider-Man
  • Death Stranding
  • Tales of Berseria
  • Knack 2

What is this, exactly? Why would anyone actually pick the Xbox at this point? In fact, if you want to buy a second system, why would you not go with the Switch, which will probably get more exclusives in the first year than Xbox has so far?

The worst part is that none of Microsoft's exclusives are even actually exclusive, they are all available on PC, after all. Even if I prune Sony's list similarly, we are still left with the bolded games, which is a far stronger showing than the entirety of Microsoft's list. Seriously, what gives?

So, nothing meaningful to say? Am I missing Xbox exclusives? Could you tell me, so I would actually add them to the list? Or is this list really it, and deflection is all you have?

Only MS game that looks interesting is Sea of Thieves & Cuphead at this point but for me, I'll be playing those games on Windows 10.

First Fable Legends, then Phantom Dust and now Scalebound, I just think MS is totally putting way more money into Scorpio then there software games and if that's the case, big mistake.

Comprehensive List of MS Studies etc

Might wanna check this, Char. It's a good run down, despite it revealing how awful the line up is.

Well first what are you trying to accomplish with this thread? Just to brag about the PS4>XB1 exclusives? isn't that common knowledge these days?

All the games you posted for the XB1, I'm looking forward too, sure the PS4 has more but most of them don't appeal to me, I don't like JRPGs or weabo games, and I prefer shooters.

Again, what is your whole point?

I was going to go into a long diatribe about how this is "business" and XBox is doing great and look at how much money that MS is saving by not having a whole bunch of development overhead costs for their platform and that the games they cancelled probably sucked anyways and are no loss and that nothing can stop the Scorpio hype. . .

But there's at least 12 people here in System Wars that will do exactly that. Oh, and Charizard, you're the antichrist as well.

It's clear what Microsoft's strategy is at this point with Scorpio. They want to have the main 3rd party system again, which the PS4 took from them this gen. Phil Spencer hyped up last year's E3 as a defining moment for Xbox where they main thing they talked about was teraflops.

This strategy is much cheaper than trying to out-compete a company in games that has far more 1st party studios and are being backed by Japanese 3rd parties.

Okay, so remove 'Japanese and weeaboo games' from the PS4 lineup. This is what you are left with:

  • Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
  • The Last of Us Part 2
  • God of War
  • Horizon: Zero Dawn
  • Detroit: Become Human
  • Days Gone
  • Spider-Man
  • Dreams
  • Gran Turismo Sport (I presume this doesn't count as a 'Japanese and weeaboo game', if it does, feel free to remove it)

Still almost double the list that MS has, assuming you are interested in every single MS game out there

Agreed. Xbox as consoles seems lacking at the moment. I do see Microsoft is focusing on Xbox becoming a service for both Xbox Consoles and Windows 10. Makes sense as their business model has always been software.

Maybe we'll have more games announced at E3

That's where sony has the clear cut advantage, but this gen has showed first party exclusives don't sell as much as COD/MADDEN/BF formula.

Again... I still prefer Xbox.

God of War was my fav PS2-3 game, and it looks like they took the platforming away.

Uncharted - don't really care for it, 4 was boring.. the first 2 were okay.. 3rd sucked

GT is dead to me, 5 sucked.. Forza riens supreme on the racing front.

Detroit/Spider-man/Horizon are the only PS games that look appealing to me, and will probably buy when they launch, but at this point I still prefer the XB1 exclusives to what SONY has to offer.

I don't know why some cows can't comprehend this, this thread is pointless, you're spewing crap you already know (PS4 has more exclusives) just to stir the Scalebound pot and ride your hate train.

with a side helping of minesweeper if there's time, for sure.

Here's also the comment made by the Shinobi guy who leaked the info about Scalebound literally before it started popping up on twitter, before kotaku and eurogamer:

Their major first party IP are on a decline with Halo doing less than before and Gears 4 not selling that well at all relatively speaking (not good enough to sustain a huge studio with that many workers and budget).

What's happening now is the exact opposite of what Xbox fans seemed to want out of a Phil spencer leadership.

I remember when he became head of Xbox and everyone was saying how there'll be tons of new games, but they're still coasting on announcements from 2013-2014 and in that time, games have been cancelled, multiple studios closed including Lionhead...

As a big Xbox fan since day one, I'm not very hopeful for the future. Scorpio won't do anything without software to push it heavily.

It does indeed look pretty bleak. I have no idea what MS is doing. It's like they have abandoned game development or something. I'm holding out for a possible E3 surprise, but I imagine that's a long shot. Their tactic seems to be creating this illusion that generations no longer exist, as well as exclusives. If their plan is to go solely multiplat going forward, well, I don't think that's a very good business model. It takes away all the uniqueness of a console.

Something like this....

Scalebound was the only promising looking game IMO. I probably would have caved in and got it for the shitty Windows 10 Store if the reviews turned out good.

@FLOPPAGE_50: No, I actually raised a very pertinent question that you missed in the OP (and that is separate enough from the Scalebound discussion that it warranted its own thread)- at this point, given most games are third party, available on PS4 and Xbox One, but playing better on PS4; given that the PS4 is the more powerful system; given that the PS4 has support from the Japanese community, giving it appeal to an entire demographic that Xbox can't cater to; given that PS4 has three and a half times as many upcoming exclusives as Xbox One does, and that's using a very loose definition of the word exclusive for Xbox- why will any newcomer actually purchase the Xbox One at this point?

I understand you like it. I understand there are others like you who do- but Microsoft have literally disincentivized buying the Xbox One for most people outside of a very small, very specific fanbase (only want to play on consoles, don't care for having a more powerful system and better playing third party games, don't care for Japanese games, like Microsoft's smaller exclusive lineup far more than Sony's bigger one). It's such a small and shrinking base they are selling to, I am actually wondering- how the hell is the Xbox going to be sustainable going forward?

I'm sure they keep games behind the Scorpio. E3 it is for sure. Altough I guesse most of em won't come out this year...

They focused too much on an awesome console that iwll be the best on the market, that they forgot some games..

Why the hell do you add Death Stranding?

Probably with the Scorpio, A lot of my friends are getting it, including hardcore PS4 players who were disappointed with the PRO.

People continue to talk about consoles and the more "Powerful system" because it does matter, it's the reason why many picked the PS4 to begin with, however the Scorpio will be the ultimate console at the end of this year, and the majority of people who only touch 3rd party games like TF/COD/BF/MADDEN and other franchises, the Scorpio would be a more appealing console, plus a true 4k player.

The market is there because of 3rd party games, believe it or not.. do sell more than any first party game.

While I won't necessarily pay much heed to shinobi's predictions (even though I know he has a good track record), I do agree with his overall sentiment and analysis:

  • Microsoft lack new IPs
  • Microsoft lack existing IPs
  • Their existing IPs are in decline
  • They are cancelling projects all over the place
  • There are no true Xbox exclusives anymore
  • There is no big single player focused game coming from Microsoft anymore
  • There is no prestige studio or IP for Microsoft, like Naughty Dog for Sony, or Zelda for Nintendo
  • There are no games that incentivize an Xbox One purchase

I've actually grown pretty high on the Xbox One in the last few months, ever since the launch of Horizon 3 and the Xbox One S, I was getting convinced they were turning it around. I might have been mistaken.

As an owner of both of these machines, the X1 exclusive library is definitely lacking when compared to PS4 in 2017. I'm wondering if MS has allocated a lot of their budget to Scorpio and then trying to continue to ride on the coat tails of their trinity of games. (Halo, Forza, Gears) Or maybe they have decided to try to do what the PS4 did early on and go with the "Most powerful console ever" motto to try to win gamers over. They could also have some stuff in the pipeline that we know nothing about, but looking at the link that misterpmedia linked up there, and it is looking pretty bad if that is all the studios MS has working on games for the X1.

I'm disappointed Scalebound was canceled. It was my most anticipated Xbox One game but I am still eager to try Cuphead and Sea of Thieves.

Right, I can see the argument here- basically, exclusives, as cool as they are, don't sell to a mass market audience, a mainstream audience, like multiplat games do. If Microsoft can have the console that's the 'default' for multiplat games again, like they did with Xbox 360, they would be selling a lot more consoles. Scorpio is an attempt to do that. That's what you are saying, right? And I can abide by that. But there are two problems there:

  • Because developers are mandated to maintain compatibility with Xbox One for all their games, they will never actually be able to fully utilize the Scorpio's excess power- if PS4 Pro is any indication, they'll add a half hearted higher resolution mode, and call it a day
  • The Scorpio is likely to be a high priced system, given Microsoft's comments about it being 'a premium priced console' That automatically limits its mass market appeal and also mass market penetration

There is one way to actually get the Scorpio to be what you are saying it should be, and that's to make it an actual new console and remove the parity mandate- but they won't do that, they don't want to burn the 28 million Xbox One owners out there.

And if they did- would the gambit actually succeed? it succeeded with the Xbox 360, but one thing people forget is that it had a year headstart, which allowed it to become entrenched- will Scorpio, fighting it out against a four year entrenched PS4, be able to achieve the same result?

Ah, no, you are right, the source I remembered was pulling BS. Added it to Xbox's list.

I think the problem is, they're wasting resources and money on BC.

And it's not even their fault.

It's not really needed though, both consoles run at x86.. running XB1 games on a much more powerful system should not be a huge issue.

Rumours out there also state the scorpio could be backwards compatible up to the OG xbox, this would be a huge plus, because those who have been with the brand from the beginning would be able to enjoy classic games.

The Scorpio WILL succeed, if people are willing to drop 500-600 dollars on VR headsets, there will be a market for the Scorpio, even if it's a 3rd party machine with a few first party games + Backwards compatibility in the mix, the fanbase will always be there.

If you own a PC there is just no reason to get an Xbox One. If it wasn't for Halo and older Forza titles, I would have skipped buying one.

Okay, but problem- people are not willing to spend 500 dollars on a VR headset. Total Oculus+Rift sales worldwide are a little over half a million. That's 500,000 units, the PS4 sells that in a month. Hell, the 3DS even sells that in a month, and it's a six year old system. Equally importantly, the Saturn, PS3, and Xbox One all demonstrated no one wants to buy an expensive console.

Backwards compatibility is a great plus, and I do respect Microsoft for that, if nothing else- but it's not something that sells systems, that's clear now. It didn't sell the PS3, it didn't sell the Wii U, it isn't selling the Xbox One. It will not be a selling point for the Scorpio, either.

I can see the Scorpio succeeding, like I said, if MS were to make it an entirely new system, but... I don't know, I honestly don't see that happening. And contrary to what it might look like, I don't wish failure on MS. I don't want the Scorpio to fail. I just fail to see any reason that it won't.

Bold goes hand in hand in my decision to consider buying one. Probably never will. Their in-house IPs uninspiring and 1st party factories feeling past their prime as well. Their focus on multiplayer and co-op doesn't help either for my own taste.

Even with Sony not having a stellar record with studio closures, even pushing passed all of those events in the past, they still have more studios, more new IPs and more games after all that is said and done. Makes MS look incredibly weak in the business.

Yup, the X1 is and always was a waste of money. MS is terrible at this. Ever since they entered gaming they've done more harm than good to the industry and I seriously dont get how people keep supporting it. Sure Sony and Nintendo are sometime terrible aswell but MS... its in a whole nother level

The xbox sure is a Halo/Gears/Forza machine and its no wonder they are the only of the big three that havent won ONE generation yet. The same suspects are exited about the Scorpio now just because its going to be powerful... if MS keeps supporting its consoles with its terrible exclusive lineup theres no ammount of power that can save Scorpio of being yet another terrible console by MS

MS is a joke

could be what you were thinking of. ^Edit: both platforms on this comment means Steam and Xbone.

Last year, the Critter Crunch creator pointed out on its blog that the title was merely a timed exclusive, and will “go elsewhere” eventually. “It’s always been this way,”
