So, what's with Gamespot's love fest with RDR?

I mean is this game really THAT good? In my opinion it won so many rewards that it was just ridiculous. I mean best PS3 and 360 game?? With all of the good exclusives that came out this year for each platform and they ended up picking the same multiplat?? I'm sorry but I can't see this game being that good. I haven't played it but that's mostly because it looked boring when I watched my friend play for a couple hours. Sorry but no GOTY should have simplistic "fetch x number of beaver hides" quests.

I never played it. My brother had the game and he wanted me to try it I was going to play it but he sold it before I had a chance because he thought it got very boring and he likes GTA.

I loved the game, best thing I played this year.

What's with so many people hating on games they've never played? That's just silly.

It's a bad GTA with horses and boring missions, but they did improve on the gameplay though

RDR was a wicked awesome game. Personally, I would have given GOTY to SCII, but RDR was easily my second choice.

What really pisses me off though is how come it's not on PC...

I swear I don't understand it. I bought the game purely based on the hype and it never clicked with me. I couldn't even be compelled to finish it. I can see why some people like it but the massive amounts of praise it's getting is just ridiculous in my opinion.

I don't know, they were much more impressed with it than I was. It was a very good game, just too long and drawn out I thought. I have a number of games that came out this year that I still have because they were good enough to hold on to, but RDR isn't one of them.

I haven't thoroughly enjoyed a rockstar game since Vice City, so no. This game bored me to tears after about 6 hours or so, so I sold it.

Yeap, it I got bored after 10hs, but I did like GTAIV. I like western movies, but the gameplay itself is what I didn´t like, way too much like GTAIV, same problems, etc

I dunno. They love it, a lot of other people love it. I suggest you just do what I did, and get over it. :P

RDR was a great game when it came to its setting and writing. But, however, the gameplay is seemingly held back by the fact that it still has yet to cast off GTA's shadow and develop some truly unique gameplay experiences for the player.

Most of the game's missions involved running around and killing people. Much like the GTAs before it. That is why some of us think that the game is a bit on the dull side in this regard. The setting may have helped shed RDR of some of its GTA pedigree, but the gameplay holds it back from being something truly unique.

Honestly, there are only so many "Kill X" or "Capture Y" missions that I could do in the game before getting bored.

RDR won game GOTY from Mass Effect 2 at the very very ending before the credits rolled. The guys who beat Red Dead Redemption know what i'm talking about. Amazing ending that sealed the deal. GS has good taste since they agree with me :P

Well the single player is one of the best this gen, but the multiplayer...oh how I loathe this games multiplayer. Its everything that is bad about console shooters in one neat package. No one in this game aims, its all lock on and shoot, the game is way to jaggy for the size of its mp maps so when another player is far away I feel like im pixel hunting in an adventure game...the matchmaking or whatever it is does not work, half the time I see teams of 50s against a team of below 10s and finally...seriously what is with the tiny player cap.

Edit: I should add that I love the mp portion of games.

lol well I wouldint call them very popular games,but I go by personal goty by what I enjoyed the most out of the year. 1st:yakuza 3 2nd:Lords of shadow. I really enjoyed both of those games and both of those made thier mark on me.

First of all you haven't even played it. And trust me, RDR blows anything on the Wii or DS out of the water and I know because I own all of those consoles as well.

Here's the thing, you can't compare any Wii game to RDR because no Wii game comes close to the scale of Red Dead nor can any game on Wii even touch the narrative.

So IMO RDR most definately deserves all the awards its getting, and there's no mandatory mission that requires you to get beaver pelts, that's just one of the optional hunting challenges.

It´s an incredible game and (imo) very unexpected! Also why would a game have to be exclusive to win GOTY? There have been alot more good multiplats than exclusives this gen.

Personally I find the online incredibly fun, but the single player got a little bland after a few weeks (still haven't beat the game). I can see how GTA enthusiasts would praise this game, but I honestly wouldn't given it GOTY. But lets not forget that GS has been GTA W**** for a VERY long time. This shouldn't surprise anyone.
