Perhaps you could maybe... try the game for yourself..?
I know it's a pretty absurd idea, but really you should.

No. Super Meat Boy exists, and it's level design/controls are sublime on a level Retro wished they had with Donkey Kong.It demolishes ever single 2D platformer this generation

A rather meaningless advantage when you take into account. That scale is a matter of the genre difference and neither an advantage/disadvantage. It's just a structural difference. That and lol narrative. I'm sorry but being less crappy when compared to a Mario storyline isn't impressive. From obvious writing flaws to the massive filler that is Mexico RDR didn't really have a narrative worth praising. That and it hardly means something when the actual heart, soul, and backbone of a game(IE the gameplay/gamedesign) is so ****ing sloppySMG2 doesn't even come close IMO, but I'm reasonable and I can understand how you could argue that, so that one may just come down to opinion, although there's no denying RDR blows it out of the water in terms of narrative and scale.
But DKC, really? The 8.5? The game that could have easily been passed off as a 1200MSP game on XBLA? The thing is, I'm not sure if you have played it, but if you have I don't even see how you could even think that. DKC is just a simple platformer, really nothing to special and nothing people are going to remember for long. RDR is simply amazing, and there's a reason why it sweeping so many awards and won so many GOTY's whereas no popular gaming sites are putting up DKC for even a nomination.

SMB should have been GOTY. seriously. I thought it was the best platformer this year[QUOTE="starwarsjunky"]

DKCReturns is good, but it's not even in Super Meat Boy's league as a 2-D platformer. Not in level design, especially not in controls(that game may legit be the only time I've ever been hella impressed by controls), and most defnitely not in content and variety. I'll bet a house on you agreeing if you play Super Meat Boy. A house damn it.jg4xchamp
i think rockstar gives good money to gaming sites

Same thing happened with Assassin's Creed II: Ubisoft threating at sites who wouldn't score their game as a 9+... lame if you ask me, specially when the game they're delivering is actually good!
Red Dead Redemption is a great game. I think a lot of fanboys are upset because they wanted an exclusive game to get GoTY like last year. That wasn't going to happen. Even if RDR didn't get GoTY, Mass Effect 2 probably would have. Starcraft 2 has a shot as well.
Congrats to RDR!!! I FINALY get a chance to say that! It wasn't my favorite game this year, but it was still superb and it's win was well deserved. I'm just happy Vanquish got a lot of nominations :D
Gamespot has had a love affair with Rockstar for quite some time now. tagyhag
yeah take this for an instance http://www.gamespot.com/best-of/special-achievement/index.html?page=25
Mass effect 2 got 50% overall votes but noooo bcz gamespot thought that we are from other planet (NOTE: VIEW MY PROFILE AND MY 2ND BLOG (WHICH I WROTE PREVIOUS YEAR WHEN GTA CW RULED) SHOWS THAT LINKS MAY HAVE BEEN UPDATED BUT GAMESPOT DID THE SAME AS THEY DID inTHE PREVIOUS YEAR. R* OWNS GS
I don't think DKC is anything special.ColdP1zza

I mean is this game really THAT good? In my opinion it won so many rewards that it was just ridiculous. I mean best PS3 and 360 game?? With all of the good exclusives that came out this year for each platform and they ended up picking the same multiplat?? I'm sorry but I can't see this game being that good. I haven't played it but that's mostly because it looked boring when I watched my friend play for a couple hours. Sorry but no GOTY should have simplistic "fetch x number of beaver hides" quests.

You have not played it yet.... read what you just wrote and then go play the game.
Why do people speak on something they have not played or tried?
[QUOTE="ColdP1zza"]
Ah, the "My opinion is fact, so you are wrong." argument. Care to explain why it isn't anything special? Because I can go on and on about all the varied level design, genious platforming elements, Miyamoto moments that make you go "wow" (and this is a Retro game) and just the overall level of polish that beats out almost every other game made this gen... aside from perhaps Mario Galaxy 1/2 and NSMB Wii.[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"]No. Super Meat Boy exists, and it's level design/controls are sublime on a level Retro wished they had with Donkey Kong.

"Wow" moments in DKC? Hmm I wonder why GS gave RDR the "Oh Snap" emblem whereas DKC didn't?
Also, SMB IMO is the best platformer this year, and had great level design and every major critic would agree. Also according to the rules of SW we use GS's reviews. Now lets see whats better, SMB's "Incredible level design" or DKC's "Clever level design"? Also the analog stick is very accurate, oh wait a minute. Which game was said to have "precise controls" and won the sharp controls emblem whereas DKC did not?
And as for the ending of RDR, from the looks of things you just plain didn't understand the narrative. The ending was absolutely perfect for the narrative of the game, something that both SMG2 and DKC lack altogether and every major critic would agree.

If the writing flaws were so obvious would you care to point them out?
And if the narrative was bad and so was the writing then why did it garner such high praise for its story, writing, and narrative with every major critic?
