I've been amazed by the graphics of a system (the original Xbox when that released), but I never actually bought a game for the Xbox based on it's graphics. I actually didn't buy the Xbox based on it's graphics capabilities either.
I just don't care about graphics enough to ever care about a mediocre game based on it's looks.
I buy games base on how good they are, not for their graphics. Most of the time games with good graphics have great gameplay aswell.
Well, the game looked good on its own (not spectacular or the second coming, but good) but I bought it mostly for the graphics. The game im referring to is Crysis. I think for the majority of buyers, Crysis' graphics were probably the main deciding factor.II_Seraphim_II
Heh, I actually got it knowing I could only run it on medium at the time, because it looked like it had nice open gameplay. :P
Odin Sphere, Okami, Mirror's Edge, Kameo, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, Oblivion... among others.
never and any one who does- i fell so darn sorry for you because my movies look alot better then any game released period ,
I would try a demo because of graphics. Not outright buying a game with good graphics but lacking gameplay appeal (to me).

well, you are one of the few :P I didnt buy the game when it first came out because my rig sucked, but once I got my rig up-to-date, I bought it. Normally I probably would have passed on this game. It looked like it had good gameplay, but im short on cash, but the great visuals really pushed me into buying it and im glad I did. Some of the best FPS gaming I've had in a long time :DFinal Fantasy XII for the PS2. I wanted to see if it truly was the best looking game on the PS2.
Played it, okay game so far, and the graphics are sweet (for a PS2 game)
I did back in the day, when I was in my early teens, it rarely went well tho.
nowadays im more interrested in the setting, story, and atmosphere of the games.
I didn't know anything about Crysis other than it was made by the same guys who made Far Cry and it had AWESOME graphics, so I bought it. I was actually dissappointed with the graphics I got out of it (didn't have Vista or a DX10 videocard, so no Very High for me), but I absolutely LOVED the gameplay.
Also, I bought Darwinia+Multiwinia off of Steam during their Holiday sale because of the game's awesome visual style.
I love that game, too.
I am sure that everyone in here has done that. A better question would be has anyone here bought a game they have never played based on just what you have heard online about it. That is a much funnier concept.MadExponent*once again raises hand* yup i got lbp cuz of that!
Killzone 2,killzone 1,gears of war,fallout 3,resistance
For me games are like food,if it dont look good i wont eat it....if the game dont look good (specially a new IP) i wont buy it.... unless i get a second opinion then ill rent it,like i would TASTE food before going sumwhere to buy it off the menu.
The look of a game is a big fActor in everything.
I suppose Crysis but luckily that turned out to have good game play as well.
The thing about graphics today is most games are cross platform, which leads to the PC version just being a highly polished version of the console optimized art assets. With that in mind most of today's games simply don't have graphics that impress me, there are only so many different applications of 256mb Vram and 48 shader units that can produce visuals that look above the competition; sooner or later you are just going to need more Vram and shaders to move forward.
I suppose I should be thankful on some level, it means even the graphics over game play titles still look meh to me in most cases. It means if I get a game it is based entirely on interest in the game itself, not the visuals.
I am thankful though that the trend for new engines seems to be ones that are PC natives, this means the highest quality assets are made on PC then re-optimized for consoles. This significantly increases the chances of PC getting the best assets, not cut and pastes of whatever they happen to be using on the other platforms.
Graphics arent the driving force in any of my purchases but they no doubt help. I remember seeing the TF2 trailer with the soldiers rocketjump waltzing through the air and knew this is going to be amazing because of the art style and humor.
