So with all these 3DS announcements there wasn't a single new IP?

Typical nintendo, they didn't even develop a single new IP and once again the loyalist eat it up and are satisfied with that. Then you guys wonder why nintendo puts no effort on their home console side. Infact it seems the Wii U was largely ignored, I wonder how that makes Wii U owners feel for supporting that?

PS. Donkey Kong Country Returns is AWESOME... if you havent played it on the Wii, and you have a 3DS.... GET IT! Such a wonderful game, lots of content, lots of challenge and replayability.

PPS. As a Wii U owner, I"m not bothered at all.... we were told this was a 3DS Nintendo Direct, why would I expect news about the Wii U? E3 is coming soon enough. well, not soon enough... I want it now.... but its not far off.

No new Ips for this batch when it comes to Nintendo, but they have made several new ones, or brought back old ones over the years. Its just that people don't notice it either just for the argument of Ninty not doing anything new, or that they truly don't know due to them normally being much more niche in comparison.

Some games I can think of lately are what they just announced: LttP 2 and Yoshi's Island 3DS. Not new, but they are spiritual successors. Last and this gen was a giant IP dump like Glory of Heracles, Captain Rainbow, Rhythm series, Elite Beat Agents, Nintendoland, Harmoknight. Dillon series, etc. etc.

No I understand if you need variation in your games, but Nintendo change their games up just as much as one platformer to another.

More likely, only overzealous fanboy finds this stuff to be a "huge succcess". I think most neutral observers would find the lack of innovation troubling. 

Of course - I have to admit there is not much about handheld announcements that realy could excite me under any circumstances.

I feel that there is no need to discuss this topic further. No matter what Nintendo does they can't win, so just cater to the fanbase and ignore the haters. I hope Iwata stays cus that's exactly what he is doing. I think 3DS is Nintendo's most perfect handheld if you compare the first 2 years of all handhelds. The upcoming Wii U lineup looks stellar to me. Nintendo has me on lock down these days, basically the only publisher that pumps out game after game I want.

New IPs were announced and plus there is nothing wrong with releasing sequels to our favorite games too.

Pikmin , Luigis Mansion, Kid Icarus ,  2.5d Zelda  may all not be new IPs... but dam they are welcome and very refreshing compaired to some of the old hat new IPs out there

HarmoKnight just released, it's a new IP from GameFreak (Pokemon). It's a charmingrhythm game.

Dillon's Rolling Wester released last year. The game is aTower Defense X Action game and features perfectly optimized levels.

Pushmo released in 2011. This is a brilliant puzzle game that will test your patience.

These are three relatively new titles on 3DS eShop that are Nintendo developed / co-developed. Must haves if you ask me. 3DS is where gaming is at right now.

ANyway lol @ the new IP gimmick. Bravely Default is Final Fantasy oldschool reskinned. This game (which I look forward to) is more of a rehash than the new Zelda for example.
