WTH... mgs4 doesn't look artisticaly or techniqally stunning.

Am I the only one sick of UE3... for the love of God if I play another game where textures look wet and shiney in the oddest places I will implode.

This has been bugging me for a while.

Ps3 seems to be constantly pushing the graphics envelope lately with their upcoming games (killzone2, MGS4, FFX13 all claim to be the best looking), and there doesnt appear to be any stop. As of right now it can be pretty much agreed that the ps3's Uncharted is the best looking console game right now.

360 on the other hand...I can't seem to think of a game lately, or coming up(besides alan wake, which indeed looks good),that is truly trying to push the graphic envelope further(Example: Why is MGS4 being compared to the 360's best looking game, gears of war, which came out 2 years ago?).

Imo, i do not believe there is a difference to the power of the 360 and ps3, but this confuses me badly. why is the console that is apparently harder to be developed for having an outburst of good looking games come up, while for the 360, no game has been able to outshine gears' graphics?

Personally , I couldn't care less, the games look good enough, I'm more interested in the gameplay.

Anyways, you seem to be missing the point, bioshock, cod, ME all look good, but having all of them i can easily that gears still looks better and has been the only game of lately to truly try and push the graphics for their console further. What I'm trying to figure out is why the ps3 is coming out with more games like gears, where the graphics are trying to be taken to the next level, when compared to the 360.

I am definately not a graphics whore. And to answer your question, fresh ideas have been constantly pooring in with this gen, just alongside the great graphics (portal, bioshock, spore, fable 2 all come to mind). I don't believe they ever stopped coming actually.

Maybe because the 3 titles you listed have insane budgets? its only natural they would have top graphics.

All 3 titles you listed were announced as working titles before the PS3 launched. Its only a coincidence that they are launching in a somewhat similar time frame. Its not as if some low-brow or surprised titles for the PS3 has just come out that has incredible graphics.

Not in my opinion, the lighting wasn't as good in ME and Lost Odyssey was an..alright grpahics but certainly up there with GeoW. If we're talking about the PC version, yeah BioShock beats GeoW, if it's Xbox version then..no.

I think anyone that crowns Gears or Uncharted "gfx king" needs to play through the entire campaign, and then go play Bioshock. At times Uncharted is gorgeous, when the story goes indoors, the visuals take a hit, there's no going around it, there was also some minor screen tearing. My copy of Bioshock ran without a hitch, and from start to finish is imo the best looking game released to date on a console.dru26

Graphical power and quality is all relative to the person making the judgement call.

I personally think Ace Combat 6 and BioShock on 360, and Rathet & Clank: Future and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on PS3 (and probably Call of Duty 4 on both) all look better than Gears of War, but each person is different.

i still have an unopened 360 box sitting on my bed because i can't deside if i want the ps3 or not, at first i thought the 360 was more powerful and the ps3 had small ram, and they are already having you install games on the hard drive (figuer this was a ram issue or maybe blue ray)

but im starting to think the 360's days are numbered, they have the best games out it appears(games are the only appeal to me), but as you mention ps3 has a pretty nice lineup coming. ive seen the mgs4 trailer and i didn't really think the graphics were noticeablly better than anything else thow.

what i have noticed overall is that the charactors in the games are uber graphics, while the things in the background are kind of lame looking, thats something im starting to look at more and i windowshop which system i want.

i have read alot of talk about developers having to learn how to take full advantage of the ps3 and im guessing they are starting to learn it and would be why games might start to look better

Voicing a well-rounded and thought out opinion is one thing. That opinion sounded like something straight out of a Sony PR rep's mouth.

I am fully aware that you can say it, all I am saying is that maybe some more perspective and thought would be better.

And for the record, I can guarantee you that while you bash MS for designing the next Xbox, Sony and Nintendo are both working on the next versions of their machines as well.

Thats the Dev's problems, not the 360's.

This is where Sony has an advantage. The problem with the 360 is a lot of the dev's are using UE3 as middleware...I mean, of course the games are going to look extremely different from one another.

Sony meanwhile has very talented 1st/2nd part dev's that use their own engines, engines they build to specfically work on the ps3. 360 doesn't have very many of those devs' so I see that as a problem for them, not the machine.

Your wrong there isn't one point while playing Uncharted when you feel like the graphics aren't the best your have ever seen. Its almost universally recognized now that Uncharted graphics offers the best graphics on consoles to date. Far as realism Bioshock looks more realistic and is alot more immersive. I've beaten all the games you've mentioned and Uncharted is the most beautiful of them all, but Bioshock is the most immersive game out this gen.

So far Uncharted is my favorite PS3 game and Bioshock is my favorite 360 game.

Another one of the later chapters has you back outside jumping on pipes in a much brighter indoor warehouse, where again the game looks incredible, just to go back to a darker section where it drops off again.

In the end it's just my opinion, I have some other minor gripes ( explosions, 4 or 5 recycled enemy looks, sometimes animatronic looking characters) but in the end Uncharted is right there with the best, just not at the top of the hill for me.

Really a tough call. I have both and enjoy them both. Gears was more fun to me because of online MP (esp the co-op); however, I think the two have their strengths and weaknesses. A toss up. Is that OK to say in SW? :|

the issues were there on one level for about 15 minutes when the framerate went mental. However, one of the updates has since fixed this. its definately one of my favourates for this gen.

Just to clarify, the reasons i used uncharted and geow as my examples is because the general consensus around SW is that those are the 2 best looking console games as of now.
