http://in.ign.com/playstation-vr-project-morpheus/85602/news/ces-2016-100-vr-titles-currently-in-development-sa

In an interview with the BBC, CEO Kaz Hirai added that the 200 developers who had already signed up to the company's PlayStation VR Program were "a testament to the kind of support that we're getting from the content creation community on PlayStation VR".

"I think we have a lot of good support," he said, "and it'll be a great product coming out later this year."

Hirai also said that the advance of virtual reality through video games will likely impact into other entertainment products, including movies.

"With the install base of the PlayStation 4 close to 36 million units, that there in of itself is a huge audience we're going to cater to, and once we have a lot of people who are really into virtual reality through games I think then we'll be able to expand beyond gaming, especially because we have a lot of content that we create ourselves at Sony Pictures Entertainment."

Not gonna lie, SW. The high price of the Oculus Rift has got me interested in the alternatives. I'm hoping we'll see a much better price from Sony. What do you think? Any interest in Sony VR?

Not interested in VR that much but I wanna how HTC Vive holds up against the other 2. From the previews it seem Vive is the one way ahead of their competitors in terms of performance.

Makes sense. Sony has always been about quantity over quality.

Maybe 3 years into this... IF there are great games, IF there is a price drop (from what they're suggesting) and IF the entire VR experience hasn't fallen on its face the way motion controls did... Nah, I'm probably still not buying.

I want this to be a success, because I want to see new frontiers in the industry, see where people can take it. I just haven't seen anything that would make me want to invest in it yet.

If it's of lower quality than OR then no. OR is 600 bucks, but its of top notch quality. You don't cheap out on VR, unless you like nose bleedin every time you play. I will believe that Sony can deliver VR of the same quality than OR when I see it. I won't be content with any plastic toy that looks like VR.

I just don't want all the SW cows to commit mass suicide when VR flops hard and they realize Sony pumped so much money and developers into this crap that they are now stuck with a drought of games, again having to rely on 3rd party multiplatform games to bail them out. Gotta give them some semblance of hope man.

Some of us are more excited to be in the game rather than talking to a flat screen and hoping it understands us well enough to play TV shows, Shadycube.

I'm curious what people think about these games seeming to be games that one doesn't need VR to play; do you guys think that helps it or hurts it? In many ways it's good because it means devs won't be taking risks when supporting it by allowing VR users and non-VR users to buy their games all the same. However, it does have the downside that nothing really requires it, and they don't have that killer app yet that's really going to sell it.

I mean, I wouldn't get it to play Rez Infinite, I enjoyed Rez HD just fine with a screen and controller, and judging from the trailer the game doesn't actually do anything different but use the headset as a monitor.

Battlezone looks cool too, by Rebellion too who I'm enamored with for their work with Zombie Army Trilogy, one of my favorite hidden gem titles of 2015, that too I heard it just a first on PSVR, something I probably won't need VR to play (nor a PS4 for that matter).

If any title seems particularly suited for it then it's probably Eve Valkyrie and it's being made or Oculus Rift too (and bundled in each one of those I read) so surely they were very VR conscious when making it.

Your insecurities are showing. Who mentioned MS here?

Wouldn't it be more exciting to see actually good games?

Like, you know Rime and (hopefully) The Last Guardian. Wouldn't you want Sony to invest in games that actually provide new experiences with instead of trying to tag along on this fad that their system is barely able to emulate to begin with?

So you're telling me you're excited that Sony has relegated some of their development studios to creating VR games?

Bro, your posting history is so far up Microsofts ass, I'm surprised you come out for air from time to time. I was starting to think you're anaerobic.

Honestly, no, I'm not at all afraid that VR will split Sony's resources. After all, EyeToy didn't. PSEye didn't. Move didn't. Why would anyone who's owned any of the previous three Playstations think that? The answer is that they don't. I mean, I can sympathize with the hater. After all, after that Kinect thing last gen, why wouldn't you think that there just aren't enough developers to go around?

There's also this crazy concept that Sony actually wants gamers to play with other gamers whether they are using PSVR or not. Hence, the external module that is apparently coming with the thing. So, what you're really going to see as an evolution of the product is that the VR functionality simply comes with games that were already scheduled. Hmmm.. Just like Move did, oddly enough. It's almost as if Sony has done this before without screwing over their screen and controller crowd or something.

Riddle me this. Riddle me that.

I'm very excited VR is finally coming up.

Thankfully most average non jaded/fanboy gamers don't share the same shallow and pessimistic views expressed on this board when it comes to VR.

I believe it has a very bright future and is fundamental to Sonys future plans including next gen. With that invested interest in its success it would be fool hardy to try to write it off, but that won't stop the previously mentioned from doing just that.

Not sure if serious. If there's a single company that support above others it's Nintendo. Thus the "cube" in my name. I've been here since the GC days "bro". So how about you stop with the personal attacks dick.

And getting to your post, you cite EyeToy, PSEye and PSMove as reasons why Sony wouldn't split resources. Yet what you fail to acknowledge about all of those peripherals is that:

a.) They were each a failure

b.) None of them cost the price of system

and

c.) They each had games that could be played with a regular controller and it didn't hinder the experience

So you're not really saying much.

If it's priced between $199-$350 I might buy it if the games look good. There's a space game called POLLEN that looks pretty interesting to me. As long as they don't price it more than a ps4 they should be fine; as long as it is bundled with a Headset, controller, PSEye, and a game.

God what a waste.

I really hope Sony isn't actually putting serious resources into this crap. VR is going to flop hard, at least in terms of being a "mass market" product.

Hopefully it will be more like Move, than something major.

I have no belief whatsoever that VR is going to be mass-market. It might sell millions, but if anyone expects it to be like a console where any one device hits 80 or 100 million, it just isn't going to happen.

Considering Oculus Rift is at $600, I'd be surprised if it sells more than a few million. Only hardcore people that geek out over the idea of VR actually want this IMO.

Dont like this.

Game resources are being split, this small market niche is getting developer time over normal ps4 games

Why to split the community Sony.

Sony did say that it will cost around the same ballpark as a console. Seeing as how the PS3 was a disaster at $599 for them I assume they mean around $399 like the PS4 was.

This is the Virtual Boy 2.0, no one is going to be able to afford it and it will die quickly making availability very limited as the will produce a low number of them and collector value will skyrocket after a few years.

I'll buy two, one to use and profit from and keep one new to greatly profit from.

@quadknight: Plus, no one can really predict how much of a loss Sony is willing to take on PSVR hardware for the sake of selling units. Just because Oculus needs to sell theirs for $600 to break even doesn't mean Sony can't sell theirs for $350. Oculus was able to sell their DK2 headset for $350 for the longest time, and the final PSVR headset experience will fall somewhere inbetween the two in terms of quality. But on PS4, all VR content will go through Sony, so Sony would expect to make up losses through software and content sales - which means they can afford to sell theirs for less than Oculus can.

And we're talking about a company that once manufactured PS3s for $840 and sold them for $599.

It's almost impossible for me to imagine PSVR could be more than $400.

They could've used these resources on newer IPs, backwards compatibility, ect

Instead, they go for VR.

Sure if you're 12. I would never purchase a game because they have video games characters that look like that.

As far as the PSVR, I don't know if it'll flop but I think it sounds pretty cool and may be worth a shot if the price isn't astronomical. I don't believe the 100 games crap from Sony though. I believe they said the same about move other peripherals but I could be wrong. Either way their track record for supporting peripherals is abysmal.

Sure you can. Just look at the PS4. They didn't take a loss when selling it and they'll make way more revenue for it than they will for the PSVR. No way Sony is taking a hardware hit for what might be a niche market.

All hardware companies did this up until the past gen. That's was nothing special nor abnormal.

Even if it was $350 that's still a lot for a peripheral especially given Sony's track record for supporting them. It should be no more than $250 in my opinion.

Worried where PS VR is concerned, Sony tend to stupidly price things sometimes so I'm just hoping they price this right. That being said I'm not even remotely interested in this thing sadly.

This is the only game they need....

Dat system seller.

It's not for you though, you're not the target audience. It will sell gangbusters in Japan if it comes bundled with PSVR over there.
