Sony: 3DS Is Not A Competitor To The Vita

Haha, it's a symbiotic relationship, actually. MH was NEVER as popular as it is before it went to the PSP. If it wasn't for the PSP, MH would NEVER have taken off. No, the DS's support was cut off a year ago because third party developers abandoned it.

Are you sure it was beacause of the 3DS announcement? After all, the old saying "correlation does not imply causation" seems to fit here.

There's nothing else to explain it. Square's stocks also fell by a bit after DQX's announcement.

Daily fluctuation? If I remember right, Nintendo stock also fell but recovered as part of daily fluctuation. But of course, fanboys claimed it was because the 3DS was a failure. Could this not be the case?

It's not a couple of JRPGs but I don't think you follow Japanese games enough to know how many games are coming to the PSP. If we're talking about hardware sales? Fine. But the only reason why hardware manufacturers even tried to sell a ridiculous amount of units is because they thought that the market leaders would get the most games. However, this gen proved otherwise. Developers gave the cold shoulder to the Wii and Japanese developers eventually abandoned the DS in favor of the PSP even though the DS has twice the install base. So now there's this other way that Sony could beat Nintendo - through getting more support. And to me, a gamer, I care more about developer support than hardware sales.

I'm not forgetting about it. It's just that the circumstances have changed dramatically since then - mainly in the Japanese industry. Developers primarily focus on handheld development now, and console gaming on the go became very popular over time in Japan.

Do tell me then, what are they competeting with? Bananas?

ive been saying this for a while sony is fine with 2nd place, they just want it to bring them profit they foud a spot in the handheld market

IMO Sony is saying this in case they get creamed again. If they outsell it they will like "Yah we beatin u suckerz".

nintendo needs to learn a real good lesson...they never adapt to give what the market what it wants but goes out of the way to give the market what nintendo wants. They have much more $$ on hand and resources to make something that actually puts the psvita to utter shame..but they don't since they always like doing things wierdly.

They're both handheld gaming systems. Of course they are competitiors. They might not have much overlap though in buying base though.

Technically the 3DS and Vita may be "competing against each other" but really the markets of people who are going to purchase a Vita is going to be different than the market who buys a 3DS give the difference of the two devices and the types of games they both have.
