I guess Sony won't let the weird ads go so easily. Facism is their latest marketing strategy :)

hold up a sec i'm gonna look that up because i don't think Rommel was a nazi
you didn't automatically become a nazi just by being in the army, it was a political party and you had to be a member
i read an autobiography on him about a decade ago so my memory is a little sketchy but i thought he was not a big fan of the nazi party
I think he particiapted in the plot to overthrow hitlerhold up a sec i'm gonna look that up because i don't think Rommel was a nazi

Erwin Rommel was responsible for an assassination attempt against Hitler for which he was found out and executed by the government. As a matter of fact, Hitler decided to spare his family the typical executions they would have faced as a result of how respected Erwin Rommel was (he was a fantastic general). I don't think I need to explain to these extremists that not every German soldier was a Nazi and not everyone wearing a swastika for one reason or another was a Nazi supporter. In poor taste, or otherwise, this kind of a reaction is not within the realm of reason.
Edit: Rommel was actually involved with an assassination attempt but insisted instead that Hitler be brought to trial. Rommel was faced with execution or suicide. He committed suicide.
d You got proof? I read a bio of him and he was in the hospital at the time. Rommel knew about it but didn't take part in it however his assistant played a major role in it and he didn't get caught.Erwin Rommel was responsible for an assassination attempt against Hitler for which he was found out and executed by the government. Stupid ad. Sony has many good ads now, so we can overlook this one.aaronmullanNegative, the stupid ads should stop.
Rommel was involved in the assassination attempt, but not hands on. He was killed, but they made it look like he died in battle because he was such a respected field marshall. He wasn't in the SS, but rather the regular german army and was a pretty good guy, now............ WTF does this have to do with the PS3????????thecreechxxxIf you buy a PS3, you're supporting Neo-Nazis. :P
Stupid ad. Sony has many good ads now, so we can overlook this one.aaronmullanNope. These ads are bad, not just in quality, but with the message they send. People won't like that. The damage it could cause will never be changed by some decent adds. People will just remember it as the "nazi" system.

He also deserves our respect, because, although a loyal German soldier, he came to hate Hitler and all his works, and took part in the conspiracy to rescue Germany by displacing the maniac and tyrant. For this, he paid the forfeit of his life. In the sombre wars of modern democracy, there is little place for chivalry.Winston ChurchillI don't think it's the Sony advert people who should be getting moaned at, it's the people blindly moaing about something b4 do a little research, sure it may be a weird advert BUT the complaining in not jutified IMO.

lol, i don't see a point of this ad, how this promote PS3?
360hammer
Simple, publicity
The only bad publicity is no publicity.
True. That whole Mass Effect fiasco on Fox News probably helped Bioware more than it hurt them. When I saw the link was from Escapist Magazine, I thought it was a joke ad poking fun of Sony, God was I more dissapointed to be wrong and that the add was actually real. :| Where the hell did Sony find these people?
I dont think it has anything to do with sony or ps3.. its like their saying *hey Pay attention to us!" .... their trying to get more attenition since u know their ps3 got a price cut.. trying to make buzz.... at least thats how i see it :P
It's a conspiracy!!
Hitler didn't die in 1945, you can't kill him, he's an immortal cyborg!!
When the axis lost the war they made a secret pact with guess what? The japanese, to one day return, finish the "cleansing" and get their revenge.
During all this time, hitler has been hiding on his secret base in north pole, building a clone army as well bringing back from a parallel universe his old commanders, supporters and troops as well researching new weapons (remember himler and his "occult" experiments at wewelsburg castle?).
Sony? Sony is just a mean to get monetary support and for each ps3 folding you increase the amount of resources hitler and his scientists have on their disposal.
2012 the world we know will come to an end...
All we can hope for, is that our prophet john carmack and his armadilo aerospace project to eventually become successful and let us escape to our former home, mars.
PS. At least get us to the moon, you know that it's just an hologram hiding a giant battle ship. It should be enough to overpower the nazis and buy us some time to build our defenses and our portal technology.

I don't see anything wrong...
perplexing and strange but nothing to be up in arms about...
People will always complain even if there is nothing to complain about :D, that's why the complaints keep saying "nazi" instead of "Rommel", to try and justify the complaint when it's not justified. I'll leave it here as discussions like this never end well :D.Bravo. I enjoyed this. It's a conspiracy!!

I think it's symbolic of gamers becoming or at least stepping into the shoes of the characters in video-games. But that's just me. nervmeisterDon't expect the average person to think this far. Or even realize that it's Rommel. And I want to play the game where you command the Nazis.
Okay what do Joan of Arc and the Desert Fox have in common?
They are both war time heroes that are both revered for their military excellence...so by buying a PS3 you too will become a brilliant military tactician? Wait...
How bout they are both figures that during their time were fighting for their cause didn't quite succeed and ended up being put to death and by buying a PS3 you will not quite succeed and be put to death? Errr thats not right.
Ok how about this: These figures were highly praised within their own group but very unpopular to outsiders and by buying a PS3 you continue the tradition of going against the grain and being part of a movement or train of thought?
Oh **** this **** I give up.
This is just sad, why has the marketing department not been fired? Sony should know this only brings bad publicity to them.Okay what do Joan of Arc and the Desert Fox have in common?

Also this was Sony's worst Playstation 3 advert. This made me scream "OMGWTFBBQ KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!!!! AH!ZOMGAHA!" than "Hey I want to buy a Playstation 3."
Was'nt that one for F.E.A.R.? You can see it being played in the doll's eyes. It makes sense if you have the background info. Also this was Sony's worst Playstation 3 advert. This made me scream "OMGWTFBBQ KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!!!! AH!ZOMGAHA!" than "Hey I want to buy a Playstation 3."
