He doesn't have to change his real life name for Sony, that's not how life works if his name is Jihad or Adolf Hitler that's his name Sony he didn't give himself that name, his parents did completely out of his control. He was not racially profiled. He was banned for having terrorist themes in his PSN id. Sony simply doesn't want terrorism associated with their brand and I applaud them for that.

Any body else notice that sony offered to change the name even though they said in the recent past that it isnt possible to change your ID. Like literally not possible not just that they won't allow you.

I don't know why he didn't just change his name. iJihad is an incredibly offensive name and deserved to be banned. They should give him the option to change it though. If he didn't accept the change out of stubbornness, then the ban is legitimate. However, I think a ban should only be for online elements. For offline stuff I don't think they should be able to ban him from accessing the games he bought.

Read the whole thing. Sony first offered him a name change which he accepted and he said "I could care less about my name", then they took back that offer and banned him instead.

well, truth is when they force you to change your name there's no recourse, that's that, reasons are shitty and worth condemning, but I think permanently banning the user went too far

Difference with that is it was flagged by an automatic system, and reversed when dealt with a person. This was a person deciding to take away all of someone's games. Also XBL bans never stopped you from using offline content. This ban makes him lose access to anything digital

Relax. MS did the same based on where someone lived. It's mostly automated, so it's understandable.

They created an account for him and added his trophies and stuff because they can't just change his name.

They gave him a chance to change his name and he didn't take the offer. Sony can allow you to change your PSN id at their request under circumstances like this even if they don't make it an option to the public.

Sounds like Sony needs to take over the background checks and border patrol for the US

Where did it state that he refused the offer to change his name? According to him while they were making progress with the issue another customer support person saw the ticket and just clicked the perma banned.
