Uhmmm...Sony offered this when the PS2 came out.  You could buy a special edition, linux-based PS2 (special order) that came with simpler dev software so that you could make your own games when you weren't playing regular PS2 titles.   However, when Sony's online plans got pushed way back it pretty much killed any support there was.  But a few people did buy it. 

So if anybody is copying anyone, MS is copying Sony.

No this is about indie games being made for a console.  Dont try and specify online distribution and make up a category so your beloved MS can win.  The point is getting indie developers to make games for a console is not a new idea, the method for release has changed but the idea is still the same and MS did nothing more then take an idea that Sony and others were already doing and allow its distribution via their online, far from innovation.

The Playstation 3 has been out for 5 months. Even IF users have been making games the day the console launched (which is about a likely as users making games on the 360 on it's launch), it would take them longer then 5 months.

Marble blast isn't "user created". Garage games is huge company(one of biggest in indie/casual segment). Fl0W is actualy more "homebrew" than Marble Blast.

It's not even about who did it first.  I'm wondering who'll do it better in the next couple years or so.

So far, MS is ahead of the curve.  There are already development tools and an organized program.  I'd be interested to see what Sony has in store.

Again online distribution for games was not done by MS first.  It has been on computers for a long time, when will you get it that MS hasnt innovated anything but taken already known and used technology and put it to work.  Indie games have been made for console for the PS1 and PS2 because online was not standard for those consoles but they started it and online distribution of these games has been done on PCs for years.  MS putting two already done ideas together does not make it innovation.

Blast Factor is indie PS3 game, financed by developer themselves(who are separate entity from Sony) and then put as downloadable game

MS didn't do it first. they just copied Pcgaming once again and so far XBLA completely fails to deliver in indie segment compared to PC.

Online on consoles was done before Xbox, Dreamcast and online distribution was done before the Xbox and 360..it was on PCs, try again.

Marble blast isn't "user created". Garage games is huge company(one of biggest in indie/casual segment). Fl0W is actualy more "homebrew" than Marble Blast.

Actualy I do know better. Garage games is big company created by ex Dynamix people who specialised in creating tools for developers(mostly their various Torque engine packages). It's not like some lonely person sat in their bedroom and wrote it on their bed. It actualy had normal dev team, and XNA has nothing to do with it, people were making downloadable xbox360 games even before XNA was out.

apparently they want to offer their gamers the chance to create their own games on the ps3.... much like what MS is offering...

LOL...are you joking...so your comparing how many user created games are made for a system thats been out for a year and a half to a system that has been out for a few months.  THe concept of user created games was done well before the 360 and Xbox so its far from an MS idea, just because MS is the first to implement it in the new generation of consoles doesnt mean that they are the first to come up with the idea.

Actually I dont try to "own" anybody here, that is your game and thats why you look so silly.  Its not about who did it first THIS GEN. The point is that indie developers making games for home consoles was done well before the 360 or even the Xbox.  Live has been out for a year and some change and all you have to show for it as far as I know is one user created game.  And you assume its their idea because they did it first this gen.  Sorry but all MS did was change the distrubition method for an idea that Sony was doing while MS was making software, not innovation.
