WTF?

"If Nintendo is really committed to reaching a broader, more diverse audience of gamers beyond the "kids" market that they've always engaged, there isn't much new with the DSi to support that. Significant gamer demographic groups are being ignored, and there continues to be limited opportunities for games from external publishers to do well on the DSi. Compare that with the PSP platform, where we have many blockbuster franchises from our publishing partners launching this year, representing a wide variety of genres and targeting diverse demographics. Games such as Rock Band Unplugged from MTV Games, Assassin's Creed from Ubisoft, Dissidia Final Fantasy from Square Enix, and Hannah Montana from Disney demonstrate the commitment that publishers have to the PSP. From our own first-party studios, we're launching unique versions of LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm, and we're also planning a steady stream of downloadable games — both new titles and PSone ****cs — to add to the content that PSP owners can already purchase wirelessly through PlayStation Store."

Seriously, sony needs to hire a better PR

Dude, Sony... shut up with Nintendo. They are smoking your handheld and console. Obviously they are doing something right. Dont get me wrong, I like Sony's franchises better and I'm glad they havent gone casual and "kiddy" or anything... but Nintendo can make some really great games and run circles around Sony in terms of innovation. /rant.

I'm convinced that every single thing Sony's PR have done has been intentionally bad. >.> They may not be the most convincing people in the world, but being intentionally bad has always put them on the map as big, bold dots. For those who are...Less informed, for a lack of better words, this'll convince them to get a PSP.

Well, Ninty has always been labeled as the kiddy system... not that there's something wrong with that.

But that was something stupid for a PR to say out loud.

Meh. I've learned to expect such arrogant comments from Sony's PR team because time and time again, they always deliver.

There's no logic in desperation. They mention the support that Square-Enix is giving to the PSP, when most old and new SE IPs are on the DS. He says the DS is kiddy, and offers Hanna Montana (the same game that is also coming to the DS). Their arrogance has been punished since they released the PSP. They are too deperate to realize that being even more arrogant doesn't help much.

The PR function is to represent their enterprise. Secondly, we all know Sony's arrogance doesn't come from "only one person".

Sony appears to be struggling enough as it is. Why would they say something dumb like that to make themselves look even worse? Don't waste time bashing the DS. Put that energy into improving your own handheld. I love the PSP, but I can't help but think that it could have been so much better if Sony had done some things differently. Then PSP owners could have had mountain-loads of great games to chose from (like the PS2 or PSX).

Hey, he had to bounce ideas off at least a couple other people to come up that list of classic PSP titles.

The "poor Sony" is not only for this comment, but for all the ones they've said, the fact that they gave not learnt their lesson, becasue of how desperate they hear and because of how badly they are doing as an enterprise righ now.

I think the DS is the most well rounded system this gen--and probably the most innovative as well. Sure, you have games like Nintendogs, but you also have games like The World Ends With You, GTA Chinatown Wars (which kicks the crap out of all the psp GTA games), Professor Layton, New Super Mario Bros, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, and Metroid Prime Hunters. The DS clearly appeals to a wider demographic--if it didn't then it wouldn't be selling millions upon millions of consoles. I feel bad for Sony. They try so hard...

desperate? no way the psp is selling pretty well (and I have a ds, not a psp), maybe it was a stupid comment, but no way desperate Sony doing badly as an enterprise? :? Sure the ps3 isn't selling like the ps2, but its selling pretty well across the world despite its price in this economic turmoil. Might check the BR sales too, they are doing a great job over there (you are talking for sony as an enterprise), and most likely it will pay the sacrifice in 3 or 4 years if BR gets completely posistioned. As for now they are doing a great job. And if "Sony" haven't learnt from bad PR ("stated by an ***** that even the most hardest ps3 fanboys can't defend) so the other companies haven't learnt either... Cause every once in a while I hear some *** from ALL 3 companies...

...And what does this do for those who don't? That's probably who they're aiming for. Definitely an audience Nintendo hasn't tried to reach though they've probably picked them up anyhow. This level of insanity spreads across the Internet much faster than the average PR speech and while not as entertaining as say Reggie kicking ass and taking names, it does leave a huge impression.

...and Sonic_on_crack lives up to (part of) his name once again! I wasn't aware that the chief requirement for a great game was an "M" rating. Okay, then, I guess we should just throw out all three Castlevania games, every FF and DQ title, all of the 1st party games like like Zelda, New Super Mario Bros., both Advance Wars games, because they don't have "M" ratings! Man, you've somehow been able to make my head hurt EVERY SINGLE TIME from the sheer baffling and incoherent nature of ALL of your posts!

I think this is a sign that Sony isattempting defeat and is now just resorting to bad mouthing or trying to rubbish the competition. Just my 2 cents on the whole thing.

1. didn't the PSP sell like only 2-4 million in North America in all of 2008? thats like DS in november

2. his idea of core gamer software is weird. the DS is posssibly the best choice for core gamers. if you don't believe that check out Moon, DQ9, GTA, etc.

3. i think he's butt hurt by the fact that no one in North America buys PSP games, or PSPs

4. at least he didn't say the PSP can play games in 4D or it will be the walkman of the next decade.

My PSP's are for the dust bunnies. If I gave them to a kid or an adult for an evening to play, they'd both cry equally. Seriously, who plays a system that has one decent exclusive every 6 months? And the multiplats are slim.

i think people too often mistake what a mature game is, they think GTA or some shooter is mature

yet some of the most mature games are mature in nature coz they require intelligence, planning, strategy, or a good story

Ace Attorney, Professor Layton, Hotel Dusk, Advance Wars, Age of Empires, are all examples of this and all have great installments on the DS

[QUOTE="Sonic_on_crack"]ok whats wrong with that ? its completely true and everyone knows it. I mean how many Mature games does the DS and for that matter the Wii have ? what Mad World and GTA Chinatown ok and before that ?svetzenlether

...and Sonic_on_crack lives up to (part of) his name once again!

#1.The Crack jokes are old. Like Moses Old. #2.I'm 22 I'm not a child things like Pokemon and Mario dont interest me anymore like they did 10 years ago, I evolved and its obvious Nintendo didnt and never will #3. I'm not saying they should stop making games for everyone but to not make any games for only the Mature audience is not only ridiculous its a slap in the face of gamers considering how many games they put their name on which is why I dont support them anymore. #4.Man the Crack jokes are old. And God they're not even funny. Seriously telling a bad joke should be against the law

2. "Evolved"? What has changing your tastes have to do with evolution? :| 3. It's not ridiculous. They have a lot of supporters for that. I'm glad they have kept their "kiddy" aim. It's a fresh air in a medium with more and more violent games. You may not like it, it's fine, but that doesn't mean "slap in the face of gamers", especially when a lot of those "kiddy" games are considered some of the best ever.

[QUOTE="dethroned3"]

actually, the dsi is for the bigger demographic(kids, casuals, everyone blah blah) while the PSP is for.... core gamers.

i own both and to be honest i prefer the psp.

Bigboi500

Please elaborate as to why you think the PSP is for "core" gamers.

just look at all the nintendo ds titles. the majority of those titles are...shovelware... gimmicky games, aimed at the whole demographic in general.
just like the ds, the nintendo wii also loaded with gimmicky games.
those games can't be taken seriously.

in contrast the PSP, PS3 and 360 contain most of the games that the average gamer, ie the 'core gamer' would enjoy.

You're right he's right! We all know the DSi won't play any Assassin's Creed, Final Fantasy, or Hannah Montana games, nor will it have 1st party support!

After all, the DSi is only for kids, so let 'em have it, that just means more Hannah for us!
