Let's hear em.

Pretty much all of Nintendo's games are a masterclass in game design so no need to name them. List would be too long.

Xbox has some games that play pretty amazing and that often get lauded for their gameplay. Gears of War, Forza, Halo. That's a short list but hey, you take what you can get right?

Sony announced several new games and already have a few out. None of which are references when it comes to gameplay design. Bloodborne plays fantastic and the combat is amazing but it's pretty much a Souls game.

What else is there? Jak? Sly? R&C? Little Big Planet?

Bloodborne is rad.

Below that The Last of Us and Ratchet n Clank are enjoyable on the gameplay part. I also think Uncharted 4s shooting and combat encounters are dope; it's the pacing of the game that suck. Way too much mindless climbing, n walking, and doing uninteresting puzzles.

Can't speak about Last Guardian yet; but beyond that I don't trust sonys games to have good gameplay. It's usually pretty lousy with their other studios.

Weapons variety and online is shit and the game takes a turn for the worst with awful difficulty scaling once you reach the second half but that combat is like Dark Souls on speed. Pretty fantastic.

The Last of Us: Remastered, Uncharted 4, Until Dawn, Resogun, Bloodborne and The Last Guardian.

After watching the 2016 Playstation Experience the other day. 2017 and the future is shaping up to be even brighter for exclusives.

Weapons variety is perfectly fine, I think the build variation has its limits, but that has more to do with magic outright getting buttfucked out of the game, and less to do with your weapons options. The Dark Souls games have a shit load of weapons where like 20 of them are actually viable n practical, and then the rest of it is a bloated group you can fucking ignore. Even for my strength build in DS3 I rocked a mace, until I wanted one of those heavy ultra greatswords for PvE for that added power. Plus I'll take Bloodborne's gear over what I was getting in Witcher 3. I'm supposed to be this badass witcher, but the most the game can give me for 80 hours is different brands of bed sheets for Geralt to wear as opposed to cool looking armor.

Bloodborne's trick weapons in contrast are reasonably well thought out, and the PvP got much needed improvement with the DLC space. The covenants being weak is sus as ****, and the difficult scales perfectly fine too. The issue isn't even difficulty with the ring maiden area or the area with Mother Brain. Those areas do more to frustrate, and are just poorly thought up conceptually. You have a game thats highlight is the combat, but those 2 areas specifically force you to spend a lot of your time running away. Which isn't necessarily all that engaging of a way to play that game. If anything the later stages are easy town. Micolash is a pushover, ditto the nurse. Luckily the Old Hunters adds some fun bosses to that games rotation.

And while I would still take Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 over it, I wouldn't take Dark Souls 3 (it's creatively the least interesting) or Dark Souls 2 (shittiest level design in the series, by a country mile) over it for even a second. I might at least humor the idea Bloodborne is secretly the best of the top 3. Either way I don't know what it being part of a formula has to do with it being good or not. Considering that's the question. I sure as **** (and I agree Nintendo is much much much better) don't want to be reading that, while we're gassing up Nintendo for

-Another Mario
-Another Donkey Kong
-Another Smash Bros

Splatoon, Mario 3D Maker, and them funding The Wonderful 101 are the major exceptions as far as doing something relatively fresh. Everything else they did this gen that was worthy of note was a sequel, even funding Bayonetta 2.

Ratchet and Clank weaponized a burping alien . Also, disco ball!

I didn't find the games to be a "masterclass" in platforming though.

Insomniac games are really great at designing interesting weapons. I'm sure that will help them tremendously to make...the...best...SPIDERMAN?!?...game...possible?

For weapons variety, are we talking PvP or PvE here? Cannot exactly mix the two. If you say only 20 weapons are viable in the Souls games I'd agree that's true for PvP. For PvE pretty much every weapon is viable and some completely useless weapons in PvP can straight up own in PvE. Bloodborne lacks in builds and weapons variety whether it's PvP or PvE compared to DkS even if you ignore the worthless arms in the latter. And yeah Witcher 3 sucks when it comes to that lol. Worst part is all Mastercrafted gear have the same defensive stats so heavy armor which is supposed to protect more than light armor ends up with the same armor rating. They're all the same on Death March aside from their bonuses because you always get one-two shotted anyway.

How does the DLC scale perfectly fine? You said yourself you are forced to run away. Why is that? Because you get overwhelmed by a shitload of strong enemies who just keep coming and at one point to advance you're literally like F it, I'll just run. Exactly, Micoloash and the Wet Nurse are pushovers. The game gets incredibly cheap and plain frustrating only to crash back to being comically easy shortly after. Textbook definition of bad difficulty scaling for me.

Still think the combat is pretty dope, lot faster paced, gorier and stylish than in Souls games. Overall would you say the combat is better or worse than in Souls games?

TLG does better platforming than any WiiU titles

BB has a better combat system and world than any WiiU games

UC4 has the best third person adventure than anything on the WiiU

Ratchet crushes any colorful cutesy titles on the WiiU and shows em how its done in 2016.

Compelling gameplay is not what's missing on the console. If UC4 is too cinematic then Pokemon is too kiddy.

They are viable in the sense that "you could gimp yourself with this shittier weapon, because reasons, or you could just go get yourself a better weapon" sort of way. Yeah it speaks volumes of the game design that grinding is a non-issue, and can only compensate for the players skill to a point, but lets not get carried away with how profoundly special that weapon variety was. It was just as much fluff because rpg peeps love their gameplay per square inch routine. I'd rather have 10 distinctly different weapons that have a significant impact on my playstyle, than 20 variations of one weapon type that marginally impacts my numbers. Not saying I don't recognize the build variety advantage Dark Souls has, but it's not just the weapons that are responsible for that.

Because it wasn't the enemies I was running from? I was talking specifically about the Ring Maiden area, because it's pointless to fight them, the ring maiden will keep summoning them. And the Mother Brain area you run because of Frenzy. Otherwise that entire final area was all enemies I dealt with perfectly fine, and I'm fairly average at video games.

It's mechanically better at the basic act of straight slashing up fools. But the overall gameplay had some issues. Magic, Miracles and all that stuff being dropped kills an entire type of build, dropping Estus Flasks was dumb, tying magic to your parry quantity is bit of a downgrade to me. The parry stun locks people, like one magic spell can be relied upon for damage but it takes 6 bullets at a time. The parry is one. I'm clearly never going to pick magic over that, ever. So I would say the gameplay is actually a bit better in the other games (except 2, **** 2). I also think the boss variation in Bloodborne is straight slacking after awhile, in that regard Demon's Souls and Dark Souls had a better group. I know we have to do the "Dark Souls sucks after Anor Londo" meme, but that only applies to Crystal Caves, Demon Ruins, and Lost Izalith to me.

The Dukes Archives are still at least somewhat interesting, and I quite dig the gimmick for Tomb of the Giants and love me some new londo ruins. Plus the 4 Kings Fight is pretty hype. Nito is at least visually cool and has a neato gimmick, even if he is push over city.

I love my brethren who come and say something something TLHBO :P

But I have to say I found UC4 amazing in regards to shooting and encounters. Bloodbornw was too much like Demons Souls so I take DS for great compelling gameplay. God of war was awesome back in the day. The Last of Us although Ellie's AI was horrible at times.

@Juub1990: Bloodborne and Resogun have great addictive gameplay. The Last Guardian, Last of Us, Uncharted 4 and Until Dawn have great stories.

As I previously stated before, It's just a list of games I enjoyed that are exclusive to the console and I'm more of a "play games for the story" type of player anyways.

The big AAA games have rather weak gameplay, but some smaller arcade-like games are pretty solid (like Resogun or Super Stardust). Ratchet and Clank was fun to play.

God of War, Bloodborne, Ratchet & Clank, Gran Turismo, The Last of Us, Shadow of the Colossus, Crash Team Racing, Gravity Rush, WipEout, Drive Club, Motorstorm, Demon's Souls, etc all have fantastic gameplay in my honest opinion.

Resogun: Simply phenominal

God of War: Fun as hell action hack n slash

Last of Us: Multiplayer had solid foundation. Campaign has pretty thrilling pseudo survival action

Littlebigplanet: Hundreds of possibilitys

Until Dawn: Butterfly effect is interesting

Uncharted: Blockbuster hollywood action is unmatched with solid gunplay and platforming

Ratchet and Clank: Just enjoyable classic action adventure i miss these days

Bloodborne: Nuff said

And honestly, all of these games just offers solid EXPERIENCES. Is the game fun? Does it engage me with its world, story or character? Does it thrill? Does it do something interesting or different? Thats really what i care about at the end of the day. Halo and Gears are fun but tbe magic is lost and its like a one trick pony at this point. Sony is dropping new IPs thankfully which keeps things more fresh than Xboxs offerings

@Juub1990: Its time for you to discover these guys if its your cup of tea http://www.housemarque.com/. They have been making dope playstation games with coop to go with it. UC4 pacing and bad balance of too much climbing ruined the gameplay. Its actually very fun when it combine all of its gameplay element in one setting with enemies encouters. Just very few stages offered that. Infamous second light fined tune infamous second son. Its actually not that bad on playstation they are very capable of doing it all more then the other two in my opinion. Meaning realistic style games and a good enough Nintendo like if you will. Perhaps its their unique locale position of world wide studio which include japan studio collaborations and the western studios. The way they release games sux but eventually there is going to be enough of a list with possibly more new games.

Quantify gameplay. I'd like to hear a compelling case as to the line that delineates gameplay from not gameplay.

"Sony exclusives with compelling gameplay?"

Let's look at that title for a second...and let it sink in. How can you start a thread about Sony exclusives (which they don't have) with compelling gameplay (which they don't have) and then expect a decent conversation?

After Poo launched there are no Sony exclusives so point is moot.

Eh, even if they did have exclusives none have compelling game-play, some may have a good story that might make for a decent movie though. :P

That's not really true. The Last Guardian is practically a Poo exclusive since it barely runs on a PS4.

Yet, that "poo" exclusive outscored nearly every "superior" x1 exclusive that released this year, but at least we're entitled to our opinion.

Has nothing to do with how it is running, now does it? Most reviewers probably played it on a Poo, since they get them for free, and that's the best way to play Sony games...

+1 for Bloodborne and R&C

Disgaea 5 looks good if you like those games.

That's really all I can think of.

People have differing opinions about UC 'game play'.

When he listed Gears and Halo and described them as "pretty amazing"

@Juub1990: You act like UC4 & TLoU have absolutely no gameplay, therefore I really can't take you, or this thread seriously.

Let's hear em.

Pretty much all of Nintendo's games are a masterclass in game design so no need to name them. List would be too long.

Xbox has some games that play pretty amazing and that often get lauded for their gameplay. Gears of War, Forza, Halo. ...

I know he was full of shit and just looking to discredit any Sony games anyone lists.

TLOU gameplay >>>>> any gears

So this entire thread was just an xbot trying to downplay Sony games and hype up the few MS exclusives that aren't completely irrelevant.

Honestly thread should be locked because TC is just countering games people like with his opinion (about games he hasn't played) that they aren't great for whatever reason he can come up with.

TLOU has a great story, fantastic presentation and a pretty good atmosphere. Gameplay is kinda shit though lol. Gears sole merit is its gameplay. Graphics aren't what they used to be, storyline is forgettable, characters are corny. The entire experience rests on the shoulders of its gameplay.

Uncharted 4 gunplay and encounter design is really good, problem is it's like 15% of the actual game.

I'd say Bloodborne, The Last of Us, a fair few Ratchet and Clank games, and Wipeout, maybe?

Sly 2, the Last of Us, Demon's Souls, Infamous, Crash Team Racing, and Crash 3 are all PlayStation exclusives with compelling gameplay IMO.
