And I stand by what I said. The controls in Gears are tighter, the aiming system is better, the weapons are more original and more viable and it's actually worth a lick competitively. The fact that there are major tournaments for it speaks volume about the quality of its gameplay. The balance, the maps, the guns, the intricacy. TLOU doesn't come close to that. That's why you'll never or almost never see it sponsored in major gaming tournaments. Its gameplay blows.

Never said TLOU was a bad game. I said the gameplay is bad. Learn to read. The story, atmosphere, graphics, acting and presentation are top notch. It's still overall a very good experience. Gears of War 4 has a mediocre story, decent enough graphics, corny characters so how did it score an 85? Solely because of its gameplay. The entire game's merit rests on its gameplay. The same cannot be said for TLOU which has a forgettable gameplay at best.

Why do you think MLG organizes tournaments for GOW4 with prize pools in the tens of thousands of dollars? Because it is a viable competitive game and for that you need a strong gameplay backed by a strong community. If a game has poor gameplay, is unbalanced or simply not viable, the community will not back it up and it'll never fare well competitively. Gears of War 4 is widely considered one of the best action third person shooters when it comes to multiplayer, solely because of its gameplay. The same cannot be said for TLOU. It has lots of quality but gameplay isn't its strong suit and it doesn't come close to Gears of War as demonstrated by what game stays relevant for longer and is more played online and in tournaments.

Someone who has played unlike you who hasn't played Gears of War as he admitted. One of us is clearly educated and the other one is a complete fool whose entire argument rests on a single video of a biased no name youtuber.

Arguing a score in a vacuum is pointless you witless fool. The Witcher 3's gameplay is pretty rad yet it is critically acclaimed. Its strength lies in its content, narrative, graphics, exploration and quests. The combat is average to poor. The RPG mechanics are bare-bones. For its gameplay alone it simply isn't very good. Same for TLOU. I played both TLOU and Gears of War 4. I know where both games shine and come up short.

My claim that Gears of War has stronger gameplay is backed by its competitive popularity. Creating a good metagame that stays relevant for years is extremely difficult and the fact that the community plays Gears competitively is a testament to the quality of its gameplay. That's more telling than any review score from a bunch of people which is frankly laziness on your part. You simply point to Metacritic and biased youtubers and cannot form an opinion of your own that is backed up by anything relevant. You just point to reviews and say "see I am right". Weren't you a big fan of fighting games? If so then you should know what I'm talking about when it comes to Gears vs TLOU. If the gameplay was better than Gears of War, where is the community? Where are the tournaments? Where is the metagame? Where are the pros who have in-depth strategies? None of that can be found simply because its shallow gameplay doesn't compare to Gears. It sold 7M, is one of the most awarded games ever yet it cannot be found in credible tournaments? Why is that? Perhaps because it is not viable competitively due to its...gameplay?!?!

Well as someone who has both a PS4 and an Xbox One I would say in the gameplay department:

Motorstorm Series (controls might feel a little loose but it nails that off-roading-racing feel)

Modnation Racers (more strategic and deep than any Mario Kart)

inFamous Series (good stories but better gameplay)

Sly Cooper Series (funny games and great gameplay)

The Last of Us (better gameplay loop than any of the Uncharted games)

Uncharted 4 (best feeling gameplay loop out of the Uncharted games)

Resogun / Superstardust (great gameplay with NO story)

Ratchet and Clank / Jack and Daxter (not my cup of tea but I know plenty of people love them)

Resistance 3 (good story but perfected FPS gameplay)

Infamous games have great gameplay especially Second Son, Uncharted 4 has great gameplay (people who say its just QTE and cinematic flash over substance or never actually played it or its bullshitting), Demon's Souls STARTED all the souls games and was co-developed by Sony Japan, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, The Last of Us has good gameplay, Gran Turismo has great gameplay, etc, etc, etc...

It actually seems you dont if you think TLOU and U4 dont have compelling gameplay. I've played and beat heavy gameplay based games (DMC, Vanquish, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, DOOM, Souls games, etc, etc), some on their respective highest difficulties so I'm safe to say I know what gameplay is. Both TLOU and U4 have good gameplay. Who says otherwise hasnt really played the games and is just jumping on the bandwaggon of stupid fanboys who say these games are "movies and not games" just because they're cinematic. Let me give you a hint: Being cinematic does not mean the gameplay isnt there. Rise of the Tomb raider is cinematic but I can bet xbox fanboys didnt called it a movie when it was an exclusive... hypocrisy at its finest

Uncharted 4 has pretty great gunplay, it's a shame it feels like half the game is walking/climbing.

TLOU gameplay compliments the game quite well. It's not the tightest third person gunplay around but that's not what it's aiming for.

Bloodborne has tight mechanics and the fast paced nature serves it well.

Other than that this gen I'm not really a fan of a lot of their output. KZ was a major step down from last generation, drive club was simply serviceable rather than being actually good and their other released games either don't interest me or I haven't gotten around to playing them yet.

Their gameplay is at best functional. Nothing good about it.

Gears is just your run of the mill 3rd person shooter with cover based mechanics. It was new at the time but the gameplay has been proven to be flawed by dmenading you to be constantly in cover. Now put that basic as all hell concept against U4 and TLOU:

In both U4 and TLOU you can aproach a situation both stealthly or guns blazzing. In gears you can only guns blazzing.

In both U4 and TLOU you have some wide open areas that let you tackle your aproach from multiple angles. In gears you have linear levels after linear levels. Walk, kill bad guys rinse and repeat ad nauseam

In Uncharted games you have verticality. In Gears you dont.

In Gears you are forced to find cover and enemies often do the same. That makes its gameplay some kind of wack-a-mole thingy, i.e. wait for enemies to stop hiding from cover and shoot. Again, rinse and repeat ad nauseam. In U4 enemies come to you, grenades fly all over the place, the game literally demands you to be constantly moving.

I think its obvious who actually has the better gameplay out of these...

Yeah, I really like the gameplay of U4 with the quick paced action and stealth. I would be really cool if ND would release an expansion like the VR missions of MGS. Just pack of singleplayer maps with different challenges.

You actually have to move around in Gears in the higher difficulty levels. Enemies flank you and have plenty of ways to keep you on your toes. You got clickers who are made specifically for campy players. They go around cover and blow you up. In GOW4 plenty of robots who don't care about cover simply march forward and force you to relocate and to be constantly on the move.

And the stealth outright sucks and could be done without in TLOU. I mean this ain't Thief or Splinter Cell we're talking about there. Enemies are still brain-dead and taking them down is laughable. The barebones stealth not done well doesn't give it any points. I mean hell, in the auction house in Uncharted 4, I was hiding in tall grass 2 feet away from that mercenary and he couldn't even see me. The stealth is at its most basic and is made of so little I wonder why they even bothered with it.

You have some nerves to say that about Gears lol. Uncharted 4 is basically long walking sections, boring climbing and then shootouts with bad guys. Rinse and repeat. Still the same old boring weapons. Shotguns, SMG's, AK's etc. Gears has a crapton of different weapons, different types of grenades the enemies are A LOT more varied and actually work together to take the player out. Kantus in Gears 2 would wake up fallen allies and draw fire, bloodmounts would go around cover, wretches would have the player on the run etc. None of that in Uncharted 4. Only a handful of different enemies. At least TLOU is better in that area and the infected work better as a team.

The verticality is freaking climbing. Don't give me that. It's basically pushing a button and Nate will jump without fail. It's not even proper platforming. You don't need to evaluate the distance, length and height of your jumps like in actual platformer. The most you do is time them.

Yeah enemies find cover in Gears except you seem to ignore the plentiful variety of enemies and many of them don't even bother with cover. Uncharted 4 is composed of human enemies. You got the generic mercenary, the armored guy, some heavy's and the occasional snipers. I can probably count the enemy types on one hand and none of the weapons are original like in Gears. A power weapon in the hands of a skilled player can turn around a game in Gears of War.

Yeah it's obvious Gears has the better gameplay. People actually bother organizing tournaments around it because the metagame has enough depth to be playable for years. Uncharted and TLOU are fun for a short while but quickly get boring. Gears of War is a cover based SHOOTING game. 80% of the game is shooting things. It's dumb to say it's repetitive for that reason. With that logic platformers are repetitive because all you do is jump. Fighting games are repetitve because all you do is fight rinse and repeat. See how little sense that makes?
