Sony fans - Predict when the PS3 will overtake the 360

In 2005 I heard it would be 2006 as soon as the PS3 launched. Then there was a delay and it would overtake it by the end of 2007 for sure. Then 2008 rolls around and it still hasn't really made any major dent in 360 sales or lead. Then it was going to be Christmas 2008 but that isn't looking likely either....

So when will it be? Is it now summer 2009? Christmas 2009? Summer 2010? Sony needs to be doing double the 360 sales worldwide every month from now until 2010 to stand a chance of overtaking it so do you think this is possible?

Are you willing to place your bets and stand by it?

True but the 360 sells well then too. It would need to quadruple sales of the 360 worldwide for like 4 months to even come close and I just can't see it myself. Time will tell though :D.

Look at the current sales and think about how much more the PS3 will have to sell every month for it to overtake.

Even if PS3 sells at twice the rate of the 360 (LOL) it would take well over a year to match.

this is still the year of the ps3 because, apart from the superior lineup, it will sell consistently more than 360 worldwide, it wont be enough to pass the 360 cuz of its 1 year lead but nobody said this was the ps3's year because it would pass the 360

30% of 18,890,000 = 5667000
18,890,000 - 5667000 = 13223000

PS3 has sold 12,610,000

13223000 - 12,610,000 = 613000

So there would have been less than 1 million difference if there was no RROD

Also PS3 has a better attach rate

GTA4 sold 1.85 Million on xbox 360 and 1 million on PS3, this might sound like 360 sold better but it didn't because PS3 has 6 million less consoles than the 360 and yet it only sold 850,000 more on the 360..

We have no idea how many 360's have broken.

Although, I do have to wonder how much of that 19 million is due to replacements because of RROD.

The thing with GTA on PS3 as well is litterally what else is there to buy? That is not to say there isn't a bunch of good games for the PS3 but recently there hasn't been anything major.

I think the PS3 will overtake 360 in worldwide sales by Feb 2010 but I also believe that this is a major defeat for Sony. Going from the undisputed market leader with 50% overall market share to scrapping for second place not long before your competition gets ready to launch its next system...

Overall all attach rate = no.

I did some maths when they released the Sony financial information. PS3 attach is around 6.2 to the X360 attach of 7.8

Not in terms of hillarity. In that case, the thread is very serious. However, it's a joke simply because the OP is claiming the PS3 will automatically overtake the 360, and he even admitted his original intent was to bait. He made the whole thread trying to lure in some 360 fans, and it just won't work. It's failure at it's finest.
