Really? What like they did in North America and Japan?

Sony can forecast whatever it wants and yes Europe bought a lot of PS2's but that doesn't always mean brand loyality for the next console to take over. Europe has come third yet again with a slow PS3 launch, software BC and only a 60 GB model available means that people will have to think before they part with their money.

At this moment the Xbox 360 and Wii look better alternatives.

Let's see what happens when the console is released later on this week.

Sony's name or at least the Playstation brand has taken a hammering in the UK and with the most recent being our inferior backwards catalogue even though we get to pay more.  Unlike past problems with for instance the PS2 this news has actually been made very public and appeared in main stream news, so I expect to see much of what has already happened in America as for as PS3 sales go.

I can't think of a reason for microsoft to not drop the 360's price right now and get an early start on hammering some nails in the PS3's coffin, this is one of those moments I feel we may look back on (if the PS3 does indeed outsell the 360 like last gen) and say thats when they should have dropped the price.

I really don't see why they expect it to do any better in Europe than NA and Japan, especially since it's much more expensive in Europe and has inferior backward compatibility.Danm_999

Yeah, I remember the "Sony forecast" about having 2 million units at launch and selling 6 million by March, too. I don't really understand what makes them think they'll sell more in Europe in one day than they have since launch in NA.DKII

Nice math they are doing. If the forcast numbers are right, Sony could take over the Wii in sales within a year...IF...the Wii doesnt sell a single console during that time.

And IMO...the PS3 will fail in Europe.
