???Sony is increasing PSVR production to meet demand - Update: Gamestop COO needs product to meet "tremendous demand"???

In case you haven't heard, yet. PSVR is in such high demand that at least the Malaysian launch had to be rolled back and Sony is stepping up production as stated in this interview with Jim Ryan.

"We know from the data we have from pre-orders that the interest we have is significant," Ryan said in a TV interview, adding that at launch, sales will be in the "many hundreds of thousands".

PlayStation VR could sell around 2.6 million units this year, according to SuperData research. Sony is a strong position given that it already has an install base of over 40 million PlayStation 4 consoles, so even a small take-up of the VR headset could bring in additional revenues for the gaming unit.

Update: Tony Bartel, Gamestop's COO, mentions that headsets are selling out all over the country and is working with Sony to restock stores to meet "tremendous demand". His words, not Sony's. . .

It does sound like kinect, although I don't see Sony being stupid like MS and forcing it.

I can say, beyond the shadow of any doubt, that the last thing I expected when I made this thread was to see flocks of lems leap out of the bushes into the spotlight to take sniper fire.

I remember when the other gimmick, Kinect, sold 10 million in 4 months and was the fastest selling electronics device selling twice as fast as the iPad. The Kinect ended up selling over 30 million.

Demand? The thing is pretty much available everywhere here, and it's launch day. Even the scalpers are getting worried they will be stuck with them according to some message boards I have read. I think Sony may want to wait before ramping up production.

Remember when preorders were sold out within minutes? Now its conveniently in stock everywhere. I haven't seen new video game hardware with so little buzz on launch day since the Vita.

THIS THING IS #1 on AMAZON ITS FLYING OFF THEIR SHELVES they can't keep it in stock, there selling more than we can imagine. AMAZON is my go to place for sales i go there first im looking aorund ok this is number 1 on that list. its a beating a pokemon game I mean like pkoemon is huge.

As I've said many time before having spent two days at E3 playing all the PSVR games there, call me back when they get a game that's worth paying $400 to play.

I'd even take Elite Dangerous. Until then, PSVR doesnt really mean much no matter how many units it sells. Right now its got mostly shovelware.

I'd be selling that line, too, if I were you. In a strange twist of fate, it appears that the PS4s camera is outselling the XBox One the day after Gears 4 launched. You have every right to be salty considering you cheerlead a console that started this gen with a camera shoved in every box that no one ACTUALLY wanted.

@Shewgenja: Lol why would I be salty? having tried it it was a meh thing to me. Like I said the best game it had to me was Star Trek Bridge Crew, and with Star Trek being an acquired taste, it's not the killer app it needs.

Only thing that would make me salty about PSVR is if they announced Star Citizen for it. but since we know that's not gonna happen, it's really a non issue.

Kinect was initially a success until people found out it was useless for gaming. PSVR actually enhances gaming and is optional unlike Kinect 2.0 was on the FlopBox One.

Isn't a bit early to be calling it a success? It would have to sell in the 10s of millions to be considered a success AND have the games to match.

No VR headset is worth it to me right now. Tried my friends vive and the only thing that impressed me was that i was not motion sick after 10 minutes. The screen resolution and lens edge distortion was awful.

There's one guy here that has one and he got it from a guy that won it at Taco Bell.

No... In July and August in both months the XBO beat the PS4 in amazon,those are the 2 months they won as september NPD has not come out yet.

And is thanks to lower price for the original models and the slim which always do something,the PS3 slim did the same for the PS3 and the PS4 slim is now outselling the xbox one on amazon as well.

Seems like modest estimates considering new technology, however its real test for the market will be sustained sales.

I feel the PSVR would have done a lot better though if people weren't saving their money for their PS4 Pros and 4K UHDTVs. I feel Sony should've at least waited a year before releasing the Pro, they could have taken that time to beef it up too to have it better compete with Scorpio.

So the XB1 is at 20 million sold and is a flop, the Wii U is at 13 million sold and is a flop, but the PSVR is predicted to sell 2.5 million by the end of this year and is already a success?

2.5 million is enough to get developers on the VR bandwagon and create content. That is the only measure of success it need be judged by.

bruh... Sony can be pretty stupid, even worse than M$ some times... the only thing that counters their stupidity is that they are also just as brilliant half the time. M$ doesnt **** up as often, but they also dont show much brilliance as much either, thats pretty much why SONY is above M$ in gaming.

People trust the brand and associate it with quality for a reason...

Look at Nintendo, the biggest one ever in terms of Brand recognition (up untill the WiiU), and it was already going down hill since they release of the game GameCube. So Brand recognition doesnt sell alone, it help, but it doesnt save.
