@casey-wegner: Interesting. How many of those are Switch Lites that shouldn't be counted?
That's even dumber than saying PS4 Pro shouldn't be counted, because in PS4 Pro's case it actually had different hardware.

PS5 has been out for half a year. All early console sales are merely based on availability. Switch is doubling it in monthly sales.
Maybe you should wait for it to win a single month of sales before you make such outlandish statements that it has any chance at all against Switch.
PS5 is sold out worldwide. You cannot obtain one at MSRP without getting lucky. The only reason Switch is able to win any months is because there is a processor shortage preventing Sony from making enough of them. The Switch is not sold out.
And where were you during the WiiU era when this was your reality?
It's hilarious to see you sheep crawl out of your hole after hiding for years when Nintendo was the laughing stock of the industry. I mean, they're still the laughing stock, but you are feeling a false sense of hope because they've got some casuals back on their side for the time being. Namely parents buying Switch's for their kids to keep them distracted while they work at home during the pandemic.
Like the great Jack Tretton once said:
https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2011/04/08/3ds-just-a-babysitting-tool-for-jack-tretton-360-running-out-of-steam/
Our view of the ‘Game Boy experience’ is that it’s a great babysitting tool, something young kids do on airplanes, but no self-respecting twenty-something is going to be sitting on an airplane with one of those. He’s too old for that.
You can take that quote, apply it to the Switch and it holds the same merit. By shilling for a babysitting tool you have embarrassed yourself. Congrats.
Keep living in the past. The present and the future belongs to Nintendo.
@casey-wegner: Not the case. The Switch Lite is only a handheld. I stated earlier that I won't be counting handheld only systems. It's why PSP, GBA, and Game Gear don't count.
Better comparison still... would you count Sega Nomad sales in with all Sega Genesis sales? I wouldn't and the Nomad could still be hooked up to the TV and have a regular controller hooked up as well. It did the Switch before Nintendo and I still wouldn't count it.

Switch is selling way faster than the PS4 did. Even the PS2. If you think there is something compelling enough about the PS5 to make it attractive enough to consumers over the PS4, which Switch is clobbering, than I don't know what to tell you.
At best I see PS5 selling a little better than PS4. They are catering to the exact same market with the exact same strategy but gaming is growing with the public so it may account for a subtle increase over base PS4 sales only if Sony remain as dominant over MS as last gen, which remains in doubt. They are fighting for the exact same market with MS. MS is pulling out all the stops this gen with Gamepass and the Bethesda buyout.
Switch is a different beast appealing to a much wider segment of the market going on to take over universes.

You claiming Sony is losing marketshare when PS5 is the fastest selling console in the history of the industry is just sad desperate lying. You are pissing your pants right now in fear over the inevitable. When the processor shortage ends it's game over for the Switch.

You should probably slow your role with that. PS5 has been out for half a year.
Are you trying to tell me there are PS5 shortages in Japan where it's tracking behind Wii U?🤣
Nintendo didn't even anticipate the Switch would be as popular as it was and there were massive shortages during it's first 2 years on the market.
It's absolutely skyrocketed in sales this year selling better than any Sony console ever including destroying the PS5, if you think PS5 will have the same mojo you're deluded.
Another system wars notch on Casey Wegner's belt I can assure you.🤣

You'll go back into hiding or have a meltdown and get banned before that happens. You made this thread out of fear. You know what's coming so you wanted to wave the Nintendo pom poms while you still have the chance.
It's also hilarious that you believe Switch has another 65+ million sales in it to push it past the PS2 when Nintendo has already released all their heavy hitters and are now scraping the bottom of the barrel to find Advance Wars and WarioWare. It's going to flatline outta nowhere like the Wii did and you can bookmark it.
I'm pretty sure Sony is doing fine.
Sure, but that doesn't change anything I said, and they should be innovative if they want things to remain that way.
The landscape in gaming is changing.
Only reason PS5 has been selling so well is because of COVID and stimulus checks.
And it's selling half of what Switch is right now on a monthly basis.

Praying I get banned so you don't have to face the consequences of your crazy overestimation of PS5.
Luckily we're going to get to see sales play out before our very eyes and witness the fall of @NathanDrakeSwag
No one will ever let him forget this when he claims sales don't matter and Switch doesn't count. 🤣
NathanDrake speaks the truth.
PS4 and even the Pro are dead consoles. I would buy a Switch over a base PS4 because it is also handheld. Over a PS4 Pro I would just wait for PS5 and not buy a Switch.
The Switch is like $200 dollars less than a PS5 and PS5 can’t be found and are hoarded by scalpers both helping the Switch sell more. I bought a Switch because I couldn’t find a PS5 and there are probably more people like me.

3 months with the Switch and it is a really great handheld. Connected to a TV it gets a C grade though. I bought Jurassic Park for Switch and there was pop-in for a strategy game, lol.
Quickly people forget the 2 years of Switch shortages.
It's what happens AFTER the shortages that tells the story.
Switch rose to the heavens and went on to outpace the PS2 because of it's expanded market. It's going to be the best selling console ever.
PS5 has 80-130 million in it.
It has no chance of joining the 150 million club with DS, PS2 and what Switch is on pace to do. There is simply not enough to differentiate it from PS4's share of the market.
As long as the PS5 is profitable, who cares who sells more.
There is a lot to be examined here for example the net profit of each console. And I’m not examining that. I have been long out of college studying business, my minute academic educational peak is behind me to be able to examine this situtation.
For example, Switch could sell more but PS5 could possibly provide a larger net income.

Nintendo has almost always cleared far more profit than their rivals. Barring some unfortunate eras like the Wii U.
Console sales have always been a SW benchmark from day 1.
We can't just not count them now that Nintendo is in control.
What's the source of market share loss? Do you have any hard data?
Sony went from 80% of the console marketshare against Wii U and XB1 to getting destroyed every month by Switch.

Here is how it compares to other consoles when launch aligned.
In the same time frame, the PS4 was around ~67m and the PS2 was around ~69.5m. The Wii was just under 75m. pic.twitter.com/ox3NQy8Ye4
Well that is all you need to prove TC point. Sony fans are too up Sony's butt to see that Sony is too rigid and never innovates, so they will long term be left behind. (that or just copy everyone else's innovations something that is very likely.
@casey-wegner: I'm honestly not sure handhelds should be considered the same league as consoles. Handhelds are made to be multiple per household (one per person). Consoles are meant to be one per household.
Regular Switch sales should definitely be included as they can be consoles. Switch Lite should not be counted as that's a different market.
wow. a sad day for sony fan damage control lmao
@Telekill: If Sega described the Nomad as a Genesis, and the Nomad was technically identical to the Genesis and played all the Genesis games, then...sure, I think you could make a pretty solid argument about pooling them together.
At the very least, you'd have to pool software sales together, because you'd have no way of knowing if the games were bought for handheld or non-portable play.
Taking that a step further -if the Genesis and Genesis Nomad were both popular, then people were going to buy one of the two to play the next big game. Whichever platform they bought, they bought a Genesis to play a Genesis game. So I don't really see the point in distinguishing their hardware sales either.

Winner winner chicken dinner
Nintendo Switch is beyond the best toilet gaming experience in existance.
Everytime you drop a brown meaty chud in that toilet and make par in mario golf at the same time is toilet gaming bliss.
@casey-wegner: The Nintendo Switch has spanked Sony's donkey harder than the Wii ever did. This is clearly the biggest whipping that Nintendo has ushered upon Sony in their history.
Innovation should always be encouraged, but to paint the tried and true as something less than is foolish.
PS3 was having a pretty rough time during the first few years of it's life, but still was able to have a decent turnaround when they renewed their focus on great games. So them remembering what matters most in gaming...the games, should always come first.
New ways to interact and access games should be experimented with, but a good game with a serviceable controller will always be the core.

Sony won't be left behind. Sony still has brand recognition, especially in Europe, and a few solid exclusives. At worst, they'll sell only 80 million consoles.
@luxuryheart: TC is wrong and Sony is currently the market leader, with 46% of market share, and Nintendo holds only 31%, while Xbox is that last with 23%.

One thing is for sure.
I never see PS5 doing 28.8 million sales in a year like Switch considering PS4 only did 20 million in it's very best year and PS4 and PS5 are so similar.
Sony could use a gamepass type service or to buy a big third party like Bethesda, but they don't have MS's money.
@casey-wegner: The Switch is hitting 100 million in just 4.5 years. Completely destroying the PS5 this gen.
I’m glad I get to own and play all 3, sales don’t matter to me. Games do.

Of course. Sony systems are leggy, but they don't sell as much as a prime Nintendo console per year.
LOL! Sony hasn't lost any ground (well except in Japan) it's just that Nintendo is selling more units. They're really not fighting for the same market. And I don't want to hear shit about Xbox. A bunch of worthless Game Pass enabled accounts don't mean a damn thing if the division doesn't even make a profit. 🤣
But neither Sony or MS were making much if any money during the 7th gen. Didn't stop the sales war, fanboys just focused on sales figures. Even now PS fanboys are like "YEAH!!! Sony WON 7th GEN". Won what? It was a bitch of a gen for everyone involved apart from maybe Nintendo. Now suddenly we give a shit about profit margins. This place is a joke.
If that's the case, Nintendo has been firmly on top for most gens. Even when their home console wasn't making much their handhelds and everything else was making a metric ton.
This profit nonsense is just about moving the goal posts. When you can't win sales, move on to something else right?
Yeah, it's fairly clear Phony is going the way of the dodo bird.
Oh well, they had a average run while it lasted. :P

Nintendo's genius hybrid concept has tanked Sony's marketshare since 2017. And MS, while pitiful last gen are trying new things with Gamepass and their recent Bethesda purchase and their future looks brighter this gen.
Sony are still very successful, but they have a much smaller piece of the pie in terms of the competition. During the PS4/Wii U/XB1 era, Sony had as much as 80% of the console marketshare, at this point, they are down to 30%.
What do they need to do to reclaim their throne which was ripped away from them?
1. Nintendo comes up with good concepts every alternate console. And since the Switch did well, they have a high chance of fumbling their next console. That's the thing with Nintendo's market share.....many of them skip one generation.
2. MS traded money for market share...$8 billion specifically. The thing is, market share is only something to be proud of if you didn't outright just buy it. The point of having a large share is to get profit. Key word - profit. But if you've just spent $8 billion, nothing you earn is considered profit till you've recovered that $8 billion.
3. How do you even judge marketshare so early in the generation lifecycle? Not that there's even any credible way to begin with. The only website that keeps track of console sales is VGChartz, and nobody here gives 2 Effs about VGChartz. Which means your 80% or 30% figure is right out of your arse

You don't need to dominate market share; the pie is larger and, they're still the leader in many segments and, markets. Ex. They aren't worried about losing COD market share to Nintendo.

I think MS will be more candid about their console sales if things improve this gen.

If they weren't worried about losing COD marketshare to Nintendo, COD would be on Switch. Even the Wii U got COD ports and Switch third party AAA is selling much better. Look at MH Rise, it broke records for Capcom.
