Yeah I dont like this at all. Devs need to stop complaining about used sales. Maybe if they made games that lasted more then 6 hours and werent so expensive (like the good ol days) then maybe more people would buy new.

Except you can find games that last even a hundred hours on the used shelf.

People get rid of their games regardless of the amount of playtime the game has because either

A. They get bored of it

B. They want money

C. They want to trade

D. All of the above

Wonder what the response will be when gamers that dont frequent forums will be. .. I can already picture a couple of people I know. Im patient, they are not. So this can be bad for them if it becomes a widespread trend.

More emphasis on games that people WANT to buy new, because of hype or potential greatness. ...If you think about it, it's almost as though companies accept that people will get bored with it eventually.

The entire purpose is to coerce people into buying new. In the end this will hurt both consumers and retailers and will likely eventually backfire on the publisher/developers as well.

Ginosaji
i thought it backfiring on publisher/developers as Gamestop will give owners even less money while charging less( but they probally wont do either) this could lead people not buying games new considering they want get much back from it.

The thing I find most sad about this is that instead of adding value for those who purchase new, they're subtracting value from those who purchase used. They're actually putting effort into making a lesser product.

Ginosaji

Well, they're making new more valuable when comparing it to a used game. :P

I think that's the whole point.

Devs are tired of people opting to buy the used game because they can save $5

It's worse than the DRM PC gamers deal with.

This is what happens when console gamers are willing to dish out $15 for garbage dlc. They're just treading water to see what else console gamers are willing to put up with now. When will it stop?

Thats why people need to come and ***** gamestop to lower their prices of used games, because they are outrageous and they buy them for like 10$ from a gamer and sell it for 49,99$. This method would be great if gamestop lowered their prices, therefore people that rarely play online could benifit.

I have no problem with companies doing this. You have a choice to buy a new game or a used game. If you buy a used then you have to pay for online if you want to play. Servers cost money to run, if you want to play on THEIR servers then you have to pay them money either through a new purchase of a game or through a used.

People need to get over this entitlement that they should get everything for free.

yet some or maybe most people keep that game, i still got a ton of n64 and snes games tht i havent touched but i wont get rid of them, but the thing is the devs want me to buy another one(you see cartridges didnt scratch discs do and the 360 chews them up like no ones business), thats how they get ya;)

the good old days aaah sadly i wasnt there for to long but i still remember them, Harvest Moon for the N64 cost me around $40, and how much did MW2 go for 60 at the cheapest, and Kotick threatening to raise it to $100(this is no joke) the industry has changed and us with it.

we demand more yet we want it for less i can see where they are coming from but this is not the way to do it

why people keep saying $5. Gamestop often will drop the prices of big used game titles faster than Game companies. Especially if that game sold billions of copies. an example will be GTA 4. Came out in 2008 of April but got cheaper at gamestop as the months went along while it was still $59.99 new. even though they haven't done it in awhile, if ur signed up for Gamestop newsletter, at times you will get up to 20-30% off used games when combined with an edge card. $54.99 will easliy become less than $40 Best Buy i noticed for the best decade have beening slashing prices of new games cause they know they can make a profit by selling the entire stock rather than a few copies.

i dont see what the big deal is. all the devs out there are making their own form of anti-used games measures, but if you buy something new you're never going to be affected.

The problem is, that publishers are really greedy.

If they stop the used games market and force all to buy new, it's a given that they will hold consumers to ransom by keeping game prices higher for longer.

From what I notice now, popular games stay more expensive for longer.

I think this is kind of the reason why people turn to piracy, as much as I hate it, publishers can be so stubborn with meeting consumers in the middle with prices, they are so quick to exploit. I'm never going to play pirate games I hate that, but selfish publishers must take responsibility at some point.

I couldn't care less about development costs, that's not my problem, action movies cost more to make then games and because DVD prices are more affordable, they get their money back from the media sales. While i know the situation and how it works isn't the same, similarities are there.

But I can't afford to buy every game at £40. half of them aren't really worth that in the first place. It doesn't mean I don't buy new, but since the used market forces prices down, I can wait until prices for games drop £10 - £15.

If games were released at fairer prices like last gen (£30) there would be less to complain about. The fairest price point in my opinion is £25. I'd pay that for any good game.

I always buy my games new and rarely play online so I couldn't care less. I can see why it would upset some people but they shouldn't be buying used games in the first place because:

-You're not supporting devs
-New games>>>>Used games.

I agree with this, and EA is doing the same thing. I despise it, because they're lowering the value of my product but not providing equal value on my end. Disgusting.

I always buy games new as well, but sometimes sell my old games to offset the cost. A lower used game resale value only lessens the game I buy, nothing more. If anything, it only encourages the idea of buying used to reallocate the new resale value appropriately.

Is Sony, EA, THq, bulling customers to buy it new?

PSP107

Then don't buy it Used. Why aren't you supporting Developers and Games you love anyways?

I want certain Movies, TV Shows, Music Artists, and Game Developers to get my money...which is EXACTLY why I intentionally buy new games especially for developers / artists that I want to support.

By supporting them, I'm hopefully ensuring they make more music, Movies, games, etc. If you love a game that JUST came out, go buy it new once in awhile.

GAME Companies get NO MONEY when you buy used, and many companies are struggling, meanwhile GAMESTOP just posted record profits, a Billion+ dollars. Gamestop doesn't even make games, and they are making more than the game creator's.

I don't know if I agree with this particular policy, but I hardly buy used anyways (the occasional rare cIassic PSONe /SNES game or something).

It's up to the consumer to decide how they want to do this, but I don't care so much either way. I can't blame EA, THQ, Sony, Ubisoft or whoever for trying this out, if you saw GAMESTOP making so much money for selling your games at massive profits, you probably would try something out too.

My advice, if ONLINE is important to you, DO NOT BUY IT USED. There are fantastic deals on new games anyways, or just wait to buy it new for CHEAP...again, only if ONLINE is important to you.

I want to see the proof that used game sales are hurting the industry. I haven't seen a properly marketted AA game crash and burn in sales in... I honestly couldn't say how long it's been.

And yes, let's completely ignore the Edge card that'll knock off another $5. If you're a regular Gamestop customer, you're smart enough to have an Edge card. Which means, barring discounts, the wide majority of home console used games are going to end up being at least $10 cheaper than buying new.

i dont think the majority of used game consumers wont pay extra to play online. those ppl are obviously not the target audience for specific games. so y should they spend $60 on a game they did not have interest in to begin with. which lead to me ask, do companies knows who buying used games? also there is a Gamestop on every corner in my area.
