Hacked

"Security researcher Dan Tentler has found that the files are being shared using computer servers owned by Sony's PlayStation Network -- adding insult to injury." Really?

Should we worry about our personal information on Sony's PSN network? Will Sony ever be able to make a competent secure networks? This is ridiculous.

not really very fair to expect security for this new fangled internet thingie.

i mean who jumps on fads right away anyway?

the good news is security at arcades is tight as a drum.

Wow again? I made a PSN account years ago and have barely used it since, I should probably have changed the login credentials after all these attacks. Good job Sony.

Sony Pictures isn't Sony? Aren't they using PSN to aid distribution? I didn't say it was the Playstation Network but it's still Sony.

Does it matter who hacked it? Fact is it was hacked, information stolen and identities lost.

I'm assuming it is open season to start threads about Microsoft being compromised every time there is a Windows exploit found? Is this the game we're playing on SW now? Because, that would be great!

why are we even paying for online? constantly hacked so our $50 doesn't even go where it should, as much if not more stability issues we had when psn was free and as if this wasn't enough, sending and receiving messages take five plus minutes (something i have never seen on any system ever). Nor do they give us games worth a flying crap on ps4 (the ps4 is over one year old now, the "its new, give it some time" excuse isn't relevant anymore).

if you can't keep north Korea out you ain't keeping no one out.

It's amazing the Glaring differences between north and south, the South is a technological powerhouse, the North is about 10 years behind everyone else.

SONY seriously needs to beef up there security.

As for all the Cows saying, SONY pictures Derp, what makes you think there security for Playstation is any better?

North Korea has one of the most advanced hacking programs in the world. It's just about the only thing they are any good at.

They are heavily aided by China. Past hackings have even been traced to North Korean crews working in China.

I know the article is about Sony Pictures but it's still Sony, just not the same division. They could easily use the information and data they got to hack the PSN network again. Cows are acting like Sony Pictures isn't part of Sony.

@kingtito: I don't think it's Sony as everyone is getting hacked... including Microsoft.

What needs to happen is we need to starting publicly televising hackers having their throats slit internationally. Spill their blood and maybe other's will think twice about continuing these actions.

how is it misleading? he didn't say PS4 network or PSN was hacked. he said sony network i guess he could have said Sony pictures network, but i wouldn't call his title misleading. its spot on, people here just assumed PSN when he said sony. Reading comprehension is important, not assumptions ;)

LOL...a bit harsh amigo. A better way of tracking these dickheads would be a better in limiting the amount of hacks lately. Huge companies getting hacked seems to be the norm now.

no technically windows is an OS. so it being hacked would be like somebody hacking a PS3 or 360 and putting custom software on it (which was done) not the same as hacking an online infrastructure and stealing information off of it. hell even the wii was jailbreaked, as was iOS and android phones (rooted) not to mention game hacks and mods.

yeah my phone has Cyanogenmod OS on it.

The point is that Windows has far more to do with gaming than SONY pictures, although i cannot see them a having better security for PSN considering the Movie division is one of the very few divisions posting profit.

The North Korea government actually can and has launched pretty sophisticated cyber attacks before. The general populace there may live in the dirt but the military and government there is a little more technologically competent than people give them credit for.

Sony uses the same servers for SOE and PSN which was proven when an attack on SOE took down PSN by accident as well. The hack on Sony pictures is worse because its their internal stuff not their customer stuff which should be even more secure and is actually most likely hosted in house on internal servers.

How could this have anything to do with PSN... Sony Pictures and PSN aren't even owned by the same company. PSN has a way better network than the non-Sony related Picture side of Sony. Different people run those networks... Considering they're different companies. /right?

Maybe @Heil68 should comment on this.

"I buy all my multi-plats on PS4" signed I'mSmart

You should prepare yourselves for the possibility of PSN going down. It's the entire server cluster bank used for all SOE divisions. Where do I sign up! Need a DNA sample to share Sony. I'm game. Terabits of information leaked and being uploaded around the net.

Nah this is BS for the users... Sony sucks at online.... /smh

Sony memo to employees.

It is now apparent that a large amount of confidential Sony Pictures Entertainment data has been stolen by the cyber attackers, including personnel information and business documents. This is the result of a brazen attack on our company, our employees and our business partners. This theft of Sony materials and the release of employee and other information are malicious criminal acts, and we are working closely with law enforcement.

The privacy and security of our employees are of real concern to us, and we are deeply saddened at this concerted effort to do damage to our company, undermine our morale, and discourage us. We are enormously proud of the resilience you have all shown in the face of this attack. The company is as busy as ever, and our business continues to move forward, thanks to your great efforts.

While we are not yet sure of the full scope of information that the attackers have or might release, we unfortunately have to ask you to assume that information about you in the possession of the company might be in their possession. While we would hope that common decency might prevent disclosure, we of course cannot assume that.

"I don't know wtf is going on" removing his finger from his ass said one Sony network specialist. /s

Yesterday, we told you that we are offering all employees identity protection services with a third-party service provider, All Clear ID, and that you would receive an email tomorrow outlining steps to sign up. If you sign up, the AllClear ID investigators would be available to answer your questions about how to handle disclosures of your confidential information.

We can’t overemphasize our appreciation to all of you for your extraordinary hard work, commitment and resolve.

How could this have anything to do with PSN... Sony Pictures and PSN aren't even owned by the same company. PSN has a way better network than the non-Sony related Picture side of Sony. Different people run those networks... Considering they're different companies. /right?

Not directly comparable. There's a good amount of evidence that this hack was backed by the government of a foreign power, which places it in a different league than previous hacks [if true].

No matter. All it does is show their weakness to protect Data. If they can't protect their own employees data.

Can they protect ours?

for ur information tc it was the north koreon government which hacked sony pictures because they released a film about kim jung ill or something. no idea why u are even mentioning psn it has nothing to do with it

Sony Pictures..derp

lol tc fails again.

Sony Pictures isn't Sony? Aren't they using PSN to aid distribution? I didn't say it was the Playstation Network but it's still Sony.

Does it matter who hacked it? Fact is it was hacked, information stolen and identities lost.

sony pictures isnt sony gaming so dont know what this has to do with system wars and yes it does matter who hacked it, its a government backed hack, even places like m15 get hacked by governments. and you wont have be worry about ur psn account being hacked considering u dont even have one. now pipe down

Here, let me talk to my Lawyer.

He highly advises against it at this juncture.

I've already played 5+ hours of rock solid online with PSN+, thanks to SONY, current gen 8 console leader. We should play, it's a real hoot.

The distinction does matter. A hack coordinated by a foreign government like North Korea is nearly impossible to counter, at least as far as private-sector entities go. Accusing Sony's networks of being weak because of this is completely unfair, like making fun of Ford cars for being delicate because they can't survive being shot by a tank. Sony's network may very well be horribly weak and underprotected, but if this actually was a state-sponsored cyberattack then it really, really isn't fair to lay the blame on Sony's end.

You know I don't play multi on a network protected by piss ants.

The NSA in my house is good enough.. Don't need N. Korea lurking around.
