Sony: No More Original AAA Content on PS Vita

The market didn't get anything wrong. There's only so much that superior hardware will do. The 3DS had better software, and that's why it did so well.

I always thought AAA means high scoring games like 9 and above, I never thought it had something to do with the budget because resident evil 6 got terrible scores but they had a huge budget.

Yes, playing ports of console games tethered to battery sucking Wifi on your couch on a tiny screen next to your fifty inch TV which can play those same games is a much better thing than the loads of original new games the 3DS gets.

It seems he is talking from a western development perspective. Damn. I would love to see more games like batman, assassins creed,Street fighter. I would love to see smaller, well developed games of larger franchises like rockstar did with the psp gta games. I was hoping to one day see things like dead space, and mass effect (with interactive comic like cut scenes)

I wish the things were the other way around. I wish the vita got the (western) support that psp had. The psp got gta, metal of honor, metal gear, Castlevaina, Soul calibur,splinter cell, rainbow 6 and tekken ect,

Edit: some of those games are from namco but you get the point.

Should be clear by now that neither Sony nor Nintendo have the resources to support a handheld and console at the same time.

Well, Vita did get CoD (sucky version though), Assassin's Creed Liberation (and was originally an exclusive version), Killzone: Mercenaries, Resistance, Unit 13, Uncharted, Playstation All-Stars, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter x Tekken, Batman Origins Blackgate, Injustice, Tearaway, Little Big Planet, Persona 4, Soul Sacrifice, Dragon's Crown, Modnation Racers, Need for Speed...and alot more. All these are retail titles without even going into digital, Vita definitely excels on the digital front.

Honestly, the lineup for Vita is not a problem. Or shouldn't have been. Plenty of western games in there. (or if they aren't western, they are mainstream enough for any westerner to buy)... only recently has it really started to rely almost entirely on Japanese games, and the Japanese games seem far more "niche". It also seems like the Vita had a crazy amount of fighting games ported to it for some reason.

I agree it would have been nice to see a few more western games that were totally exclusive to Vita, especially something like a Rockstar game to put it over the top. But for the 1st year or two of Vita, it was not that bad. You can understand why western developers are dropping off now. But reality is this, 3DS doesn't have much western support either.

Yeah you're totally right. Once (if it ever does) end up on the PS4 I just won't be able to enjoy it on my XOne at all. In fact I'll probably bin it.

SCEA should at least be developing original games for the vita, but they can make sure that the development costs for the games they develop is low so that they can make back the money they may lose from developing these games.Some people don't want a vita because SCEA is not that confident in the product they helped to bring to the US market.Instead of publishing original games for the console(like Nintendo is doing with the WiiU) they are pretty much promoting indie games and ports which can mostly be played on other platforms. Some potential vita owners don't want to play these games on the Vita. I'm not saying that indie games and ports are bad. SCEA barely markets the Vita in the first place. I get that sony is having money issues right now,but they really don't need to spend a lot of money to create original games for the vita if they plan out the amount they want to spend on these games.The vita will sell to more than 2200 people per week according to last month's NDP numbers if SCEA actually cared about, but sadly the vita will continue to sell as low as 10k per month in the US if SCEA keeps on ignoring it.

Sales don't mean it's a better system. They are aimed at two different markets. 3DS is a much more casual device that appeals to people of all ages. Many parents by these systems for their young kids. If you don't believe just look at the types of games that come out or look at the commercials. Very different market. The PSP/Vita was created for older more hardcore gamers. I own both systems, and I found myself playing my Vita just because most 3DS games are too casual for me. It also doesn't help that I've played those same Nintendo franchises ever since I've been gaming.

I think gamers are starting to see portable gaming for the gimmick it truly is, hence the failure of the Vita. Mind you that I don't know how well its competition is doing and am just speaking out of my anus.

It's been a gimmick since GameGear and Lynx but Nintendo has been the only one who's pulled it off.

If the releases we've had so far this year and announced for the rest of 2014 are indicative of the terrible future Char is on about then count me as more than satisfied.

Yeah I liked Uncharted vita as well.

The Vita had a much better launch lineup than the 3DS did. I got the notion that people prejudged games like Uncharted Golden Abyss, LBP, Wipeout 2048, Super Stardust, etc, just because they share the same name as their console counter part. But they are actually good games. Also, about the japanese/western AAA thing - what Western games have come to 3DS? At least we had some with Tearaway, Killzone, LBP, etc. All great games. And then there's indie which is fantastic on Vita.

damn good reasons? there are damn good reasons for both. pokemon is outdated gameplay crapness.... I felt like I was playing a 5 year olds game I breezed through without a damn loss.

The first party, fire emblem, bravely default... fantastic. now what?

just wait another year for 1 maybe 2 more great games.... to collect dust because the device is so dated it lags on pokemon in 3D mode...

PS Vita is so much nicer to use.

Obviously it won't win sales now, but its a damn better device that will be able to ironically play more games... and more varied genres....

Agree. I was a huge fan of KZ Mercenary. Game and the online were fun. I love my vita, and hope there are more non Japanese titles for it. But I do have a slew of games non the less, and I never get tired of MGS on it.

I'm sure there will be more non-Japanese games like KZ Mercenary and Uncharted. The system is way too early in the cycle to not throw it a bone here and there.

I use my Vita and 3DS, as there are some great titles on both systems.

@SolidGame_basic: vita was a god send on field training in the army. Used power off 3k generator and play uncharted or ngs on it.

Who knows if / when that will happen. Meanwhile XOne is getting the next Final Fantasy installment confirmed. So I still don't see your point.

Halo will release this year (probably halo 2 anniversary). Its been confirmed so many times is not even funny anymore. Quantum Break was announced at E3 as a year one title. Maybe its been delayed (remedylol) but nothings been said about it yet.

Insomniac are great devs, they just need to stick to what they know. Resistance games were total garbage and I don't even know what the hell Fuse was but their ratchet and clank games have always been awesome.

I'm going to go against all of System Wars, but I see that as good thing. I didn't buy a PS Vita to play more super big budget, blockbuster, HUGE marketed games. I actually prefer indies, smaller and medium budget games to fuel the handhelds, PS Vita and 3DS.

Keep all that AAA blockbuster, multi-million dollar software on the home consoles and PC.

I'm pretty sure they just cannot afford to anymore, they need to put there resources into what's selling to gain some money back and at the moment that's PS4, your not supposed to do anything it's there business not ours.
