How much money did Sony lose on these sales, since the PS4 is being sold at a loss.
Not as much as MS will lose on all those Xbones that go unsold.
Good thing they won't have to worry about that since the XB1 is sold out everywhere

Any link to back up this claim?

Thanks for the link. Good thing for them they are now charging for online service. So the loss will be even less for them. They seem to be set up to do a whole lot better than they did with the PS3.
It's a 60 dollar loss on each unit sold, which means with PSN+ alone it'll take Sony a year to make their loss back on each PS4 sold.
No, the instant the person buys a year (which most will), that is $50 from each person that buys a year (more each year if they don't buy the whole year at once). Sony doesn't have to wait a year for that money. Sure some will not buy a whole year, but that is still instant money the first money. Then there is the fact that as time goes on, the cost to make each console will go down. And naturally they will work as fast as possible to get those cost down so they don't have that $60 loss with each console. Not sure what you are really trying to get at here, but I do know this. Sony is in good shape with the PS4 and to think otherwise is just letting your fanboy show. And if that is the case, then our conversation is over because I really don't feel like going back and forth with a blind raging fanboy.
But as a PSN+ customer you'd hope that they were spending that money improving the infrastucture adn service no ? They also have the Gaikai streaming soloution in development which must be costing them a pretty penny.
If people buy the PSN+ for 50 dollars Sony STILL isn't going to make their money back in a year, they'll still be 10 dollars short of what they lost on each PS4 sold. So yes, going strictly off PSN+ Sony won't be able to make their money back.
Then there's the fact that the cost to make each console will go down? Really? Can I borrow your crystal ball? Because I sure would like to know what the next powerball numbers are. What a stupid argument, I can just as easily argue that the PS4 will go through several price drops which will negate saving money on lower production cost.
Sony lost money with the PS3, they're going to lose money with the PS4, you're argument of PSN+ making their money back has failed. I'm sorry that you aren't intelligent enough to understand a simple accounting principles and even 3rd grade mathematics but I'm not responsible for education you,. Have a nice day.
Yeah lets completely ignore that sony get royalties from each game sold on PS4,and that killzone SF is look to be selling great yeah lets ignore that..lol
@SonofK: I think you're the worst poster in this thread. Even with all the cows here. You come into a thread celebrating a companies success and downplay the **** out of it. Then you rip on peoples preference for games.
I think you need to go talk a walk bro.
Meanwhile the potential CEO of MS + important shareholders want to get rid of the Xbox division.
Lems am cry!
So much anger and tears from lems..............because the PS4 domination.lol
One day, they too will be the benefactors of the Live Love and Learn philosophy. There will be a PS4 with their name on it once they see that the next generation doesn't start... without them. Greatness awaits.
I wonder how Microsoft feels about this and I also wonder how they are going to try and spin it as well.

Raging xbox fanboy confirmed...
Sad part is, he is too dumb to notice it would seem. I had to just stop wasting my time responding to his ignorant ass. Gets boring pretty fast when you can't have a real conversation with him without him openly displaying his inner fanboy and then denying it.
This is what designing a gaming console for gamers will do for you. Who would have thought?
250 million potential console gamers out there, and the PS4 is a custom-built ICBM of gaming glory. 1.85 TFLops of Live Love and Learn the Sony way. The gamers way.
(God, I can't stop it.. Heil has got to be eating this up right now.)
@Shewgenja:
Sony has yet to launch more than 1 million PSs ever. What makes you think they'll all of a sudden have enough for 3 million on the 15th? No console launch has ever reached 3 million on release.
I don't know man. There is no way I can answer that question. I just have to take Jack at his words (as do investors)
And do you remember Sony saying the same crap during the past 2 console launches? THey promised millions of PS2s at launch and barely managed over 600-700k I believe. It would be great if they can meet demand but I highly doubt it.
People act like there aren't a bunch of games available for the PS4 at launch. Yes, a lot of them are PSN/downloadables, but that precisely counters this ridiculous argument that the PS4 is going to be sitting around and collecting dust. Games are games. It's just funny! PS1 didn't launch with this many games and certainly not the PS2.

The trick is to find someone with a preorder, get him to cancel it a day after launch day, take a photograph of the console when it's put on shelf, receive $1000 from jacky t, and you both get a ps4 for free. 8)
Hey, you may have a point there. Hmmm. I may wait at Gamestop til the end of the day just to see how many preorders were cancelled and I'll get mine for free. It's the only way I'm getting one on launch day. I still won't play it until it has some games on it that I want.

If they're selling at a loss of $60*5000000 = -$300000000... how many copies of Knack and KZ do they need to sell to make up the losses?
Well assuming everyone who gets one gets at least like 3 games (Even if not first party) and a subscription to PS+ I would be inclined to believe that they'd at least make a profit. When you do the math like that it makes it seem like a huge huge number, but their profits will be more based on a system by system basis. Hopefully they'll get a got attach ratio. I buy lots of games, so they'll definitely be profiting from me :)
PS4 will sell at a loss in the USA but make a profit in EU. Exchange rates or some shizzle. They'll be fine.
Lems are crying so much in this thread. Keep up the pathetic damage control, hopefully the xbox one will sell more than 500,000 consoles this year.

Unfortunately cows don't speak common sense. This same idiot tried declaring that a decrease in manufacture cost would increase revenue for Sony even though he's ignoring the inevitable price drops.
It just goes to show that 90% time a cow tries to pretend like he's an intellectual will end up backfiring hard.

You're making it sound like they do price drops immediately after decreasing manufacturing costs, no one is that dumb. Balancing production costs is something done all the time throughout the lifecycle of a console, and they make sure they'll make hit a milestone of net profit and cost and a whole bunch of other factors before deciding on a price drop. Your worries about sony are funny.

Aaaand I think I'm done here, this is literally the 20th time on this thread alone a cow has decided to talk out of his ass instead of using a shred of common sense or doing 5 seconds of google research.
You're right, the PS4 isn't going to drop it's price right away, at the same time they aren't going to magically decrease manufacturing cost. Heads so far up Sony's ass that your ignorant to the fact that Sony didn't begin dropping the manufacture cost of the PS3 until 2 years after it's launch.
@SonofK had the biggest meltdown ever in this thread; pathetic.
Thank you for yet again contributing nothing to this argument, if the only way you can cause a meltdown to someone is to gang troll then you really are some of the biggest idiots on this or any site. Go ahead, post your cry moar or get mad internet lingo, it's all you have now.

the point was you're somehow trying to imply the ps4 will forever be sold at a loss because when the costs go down they'll always do a price drop, sorry for pointing out the issue

No one ever stated or even implied that, only the ridiculous notion of PSN+ single handedly making up their money back, assuming that every single PS4 sale would result in the buying buying a year of PSN+ which still wouldn't have made their money back.

And that's where their arguments failed because for a record breaking 21 times now, I've explained that the original argument made, was that Sony was going to make their money back on PSN+ SOLEY
Everything else got out of hand because cows have trouble reading at an elementary level.
