"bu bu but wait until it launches in Japan....game changer...*gulp*"

oh cows...so hopeful...so delusional, smh. the XB1 is still only released in 13 regions and is only a million or so behind the ps4. and the Japan launch seems to have fizzled too...yikes!!

besides japan i'm interested to see how the systems perform in China since they opened their borders to console gaming again. that could be the real game changer here for either system.

How it was going to be game changer.?

Japan will add more sales and increase the a lead that already is on 2 millions.

The gap is 2 millions not 1 and that is without counting japan, the whole 13 country excuse is sad the xbox one is on 13 countries because it sell like sh** on those other countries left behind, hell the xbox one is already dead in EU,and we already so what happen on January NPD even with a shortage the PS4 basically double the xbox one,and outsold the wii u and xbox one combined does that sound familiar to you.?

Hell i don't know what your angle is about if the PS4 fail to spark the console market in Japan MS would be better to not release there ever.

Oooooopps.............

Looks like my 300k prediction will come true in the Land of the not so rising sun.

Sony Fan saying all of the wait till Japan, the PauperStation4 loosing steam and quickly in its home market.

Is not the PS4 the console market in Japan is not the same as it was when the PS2 was there, not even the wii got PS2 numbers, the PS4 is not losing steam dude is the japanese market which has basically shifted to movil gaming, because of their always on the move life style.

If the PS4 does 300k the xbox one would do 20k.

@kuu2 said:

So much for the 'PS4 running away with this gen'. Buckle up Sony Fan this gen is going to be a marathon just like was predicted before launch.

Bring on China baby, bring on China.

ahahahaahaaaaaaaaaaaaa..... A marathon and the PS4 already outsold the xbox one by 2 million in 3 months without Japan, the xbox one is dead in EU,and MS loss US as last NPD showed stores were flooded with xbox one,yet the hard to find PS4 outsold the xbox one by double numbers,i wonder from where MS will pull units to even stay in the race..lol

And lol on China...They prefer to buy an knock off android console with an apple logo on the front than a japanese or american console.

It does have games. I think maybe the climate towards home consoles is changing there.

If there's one place Sony doesn't have to worry about MS it's Japan. Even if the X1 had GDDR5 and a 2.5 tflops GPU for $400 the amount of units that would be sold there could be counted on your fingers.

The Japanese gaming market only represents 10% of video game sales today compared to 50% in 2002. A lot of this is due to the massive surge in the casual markets in the west brought upon by games like Guitar Hero and the Wii, but it's clear the Japanese gaming market as we view it has shrunk. The PS4 will be moderately successful there, but it won't come close to the PS2's success.

PS4 is already 2 million ahead without Japan and the Xbone will be lucky to sell 300 units in Japan. It's not a marathon, it's a slaughter and the Xbone is for dinner.

It will outsell the X1 there, since the X1 isn't sold there.

Guess the Japanese handhelds get better than 1080p resolution? I mean, that's all that is important now.

it will still sell better than the Xbone, so no problem. Beside, Sony had more time to prepare, so being in tock doesn't mean much. The console's still at the top of the list in the Japanese Amazon, so we better wait for solid numbers.

Mobile games are popular. The casual market has shifted more towards smartphones, ios, android, tablets etc.
Either way, PS4 will sell more than Wii U along with providing more better games.
X1 as expected is not going to sell like hot cakes over but its not going to stop its run of success and flow of games globally.

Duh, it doesn't have any games. Japan isn't as much suckers as the rest of the world. They need to be convinced via software, unlike NA/EU, who only cares for hardware and graphics.

Folks on Japan GAF are saying its selling quite well at online retailers. They expect it to beat WiiU numbers making it the biggest nextgen console release in Japan. It's not gonna do PS2 or Wii numbers but it will sell respectably.

@Bigboi500: that doesn't explain why two Tales Of remakes are landlocked to Japan and Namco won't localize them. The audience that they are looking for is there now, thanks to a certain game called a persona 4 golden. There is no reason not to localize them now

I think that barrier will be broken because they're localizing more Tales games now. A year or so ago I'd never have expected an early Zestiria NA/EU announcement or a Symphonia Chronicles localization. I'm more confident of a ToV PS3 localization announcement now because of all that.

Until ps4 has games it's going to stay like that, Sony goofed they need games to sell they aren't making anything off console sales yet and the order and infamous are not system movers.

This is a bit premature. We should get some numbers tomorrow. Regardless whatever PS4 sells in Japan it in still only going to add to it's growing lead because Xflop will have zero sales there.

I would surprised if it doesn't surpass the Wii U Japan launch so at least 300K on the low side for this past weekend.

Its wayy too early to tell.

PS4 just launced in Japan 2 days ago

Give it some time

Maybe the PS4 wont break all time sales records in Japan, like the PS4 did in America and all over Europe...

BUT there is excitiment for the PS4 in Japan. The PS4 WILL sell in Japan at the end of the day

As soon as more Japanese games start hitting the PS4, the PS4 will really start picking up steam in Japan. Sony will know what to do, Sony always gets it right.

The PS4 has been a cultural phenomenon in the US and all over Europe. Been so well deserved. Sony was rewarded for treating gamers right and releasing an awesome console that was focused on nothing but gaming for gamers. Most powerful yet cheapest next gen console. Its been a beautiful thing. PS4 is amazing. I love my PS4. Thank you Sony!

The PS4 will continue to sell out like hot cakes. Im glad gamers have picked PS4 over xbone. That also means we sent the right message. That Microsoft can not get away with their BS ...and that Gaming>>>>xbone/snapshot features...

Ive never seen anything like the PS4. PS4 is even ahead of the PS2's pace in sales. The PS4 is stuff of legend, but its real life, and it will only continue to get better, continue to get more support from Sony, and continue to get more of those awesome playstation exclusives. Its just getting started ! We are in for a ride the next 5-10 years on PS4. Greatness arrived with the PS4. More greatness awaits.

Lets say, just for arguements sake that its a worst case senario in Japan and the PS4 doesnt do well in Japan, well they can take some stock away from Japan and use that to replenish the stores in America/Europe always selling out of PS4s....Nothing lost....IF PS4 starts picking up steam in Japan, all the better:)

Heres hoping it does, so more Japanese PS4 games are made. Im 100% positive it will. It just launced 2 days ago. "Journalists" need to calm down with the sensaltionist BS

Im hoping Yakuza Ishin gets a USA release too. Been really interested in it. Its looks really good. Also cant wait for deep down.

Just realised.......

There have been NO concrete sales numbers for the PS4 released in Japan yet

There has BEEN NOTHING

YET the "gaming media" keeps insisting that the "PS4 isnt selling well in Japan"

No evidence or facts to support that claim. None what so ever....

You want to know what they are using to support their claims?

That there havent been fist fights for a PS4 in Japan. I kid you not.. thats one of the reasons being used to "prove" the PS4 "isnt selling well" in Japan

Also are using a whole bunch of, he said she said BS: "we've been informed by anonymous strangers there are lots of PS4s still on shelfes in Japan"

Its a joke

Such sensaltionist "journalism".

Watch the PS4 end up doing great numbers in Japan once the sales can be tracked and concrete numbers are released

I wonder what the best selling game will be the 1st month in Japan. Call Of Duty? I can't imagine Killzone selling a ton. Call Of Duty is the only FPS game I've ever heard of that's extremely popular in Japan...

LOL fanboys are so stupid. The sales are not even in and the picture could be before the store opened obviously. PS4 sales will be better than the other 2 consoles in Japan as games like MGS, Yakuza, Tales and FF will sell it as they release. 5.3 million sales without Japan are what the facts say regardless.

All X1 needs is a price drop. Realistically that is it. And no one expects it to sell in Japan.

A price drop? I don't think that will help. It would have to be a deep cut to undermine Sony....and even then...Sony will cut their price. X1 isn't going to be the number one seller. Deal with that and play your console.

No it's not. Gamers are amazingly thickle. The gen has just started. All MS need to do is start rolling out the games and drop the price. The only reason the gap is widening is because the X1 cost too much.

Agreed. The console market, in general, has been going downhill in Japan for some time. It's a more handheld-centric region.

It seems the Japanese require time to warm up to new consoles.

3DS is king in Japan right now. Even the PS3 didn't sell well in Japan, for pretty much the entirety of its lifespan.

people seriously overanalyzing this.

There are no games on the PS4 that appeal to Japanese gamers right now. At all.

lt will sell when games they actually care about come out over there. Right now, there is nothing for them to play. At least we got killzone, and some multiplats of western games.

Seems we jumped the gun a bit, probably selling fine.

"The PS4 launched in Japan on Saturday, and it didn’t immediately sell out at the biggest local retail chains. This caused a wave of somewhat alarmist articles and comments, some of which called the console’s Japanese launch “muted” or even a flop. Looks like they were a bit premarture, as the stock has been gradually but steadily running out over the weekend."

"While there was no instant sellout, probably due to the fact that many customers were compelled to preorder online to avoid being left out (it sold out five times in a row when it was made available on the web), and to the shopping habits of the Japanese, that are steadily shifting towards online purchases, it’s doubtless that most units are being sold, and not many are left on the shelves."

@Wasdie: 50%? You might want to recheck that number.

I never said 'number 1 selling'. And Sony historically won't drop the price of a Playstation that is selling well.

Such a lie...lol

Pretty accurate in the UK at least, across all their platforms.

They kept the price of the PS2,3 and PSP high past it's hardware value. It's been a barrier. If I already have a console and I'm looking into a Playstation console, they're always more than I'm willing to pay at that particular point. 3 quarters into PS2 gen it cost £170 while the competition is well under £150, same time last gen and the PS3 is still above £230 or more while the competition is well under £200. PSP stayed expensive past its hardware worth as well.
