Sony Sales WELL OVER 35 Million PS4. 5.7 Million Over the Holidays.

It's not just Microsoft that enjoyed a record-breaking holiday season. Sony on Tuesday announced that it sold more than 5.7 million PlayStation 4 systems during the holiday season, bringing the platforms' new sales tally to 35.9 million units globally as of January 3, 2016.

PlayStation 4 game sales were also strong during the holiday season, with more than 35 million copies sold at brick-and-mortar stores and through the PlayStation Store. Sales numbers for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita games were not divulged, nor did Sony name a top-selling PS4 holiday game.

Sony also today announced that PlayStation Plus subscriptions rose by 60 percent compared to the same period last year, though no specific figures were shared.

"We are absolutely delighted that so many customers have selected PS4 as the best place to play throughout this holiday season and that the PS4 community is growing more than ever," Sony Computer Entertainment president and CEO Andrew House said in a statement. "We remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver innovative entertainment experiences."

House went on to say that Sony aims to deliver an "unprecedented games portfolio" for 2016. He called out titles like Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, a new Hot Shots Golf, and The Last Guardian in the press release.

Well yeah, makes sense seeing as Sony is massive in other countries (Japan) while MS is only big in America

Fantastic numbers for just 2 years of market. They (the PS4 and XB1) still need to reach that $199 sweetspot, which is when most "casual" consumers jump in.

Those are fantastic numbers. Only bound to get better if you look at the lineup for 2016.

Looking back at the PS3 numbers, sony is killing it right now.. they are at PS2 levels

Very impressive numbers from Sony, they are pretty much unstoppable now. 2016 will be another record breaking year for them, and I expect them to sell even faster with the heavy-hitters they have lined up.

Pretty sure NPD just accounts for just NA and not worldwide. PS3 at this point in time was around the 20M mark in its lifetime.

PS3 holiday sales in 2009 = 3.8 million units

PS2 holiday sales in 2001 = 5.3 million units

Sony's style is impetuous. PS4 - it only prints money and decimates the opposition.

Oh wow, I'm there and I said it wouldn't; glad I was wrong.

They are selling 18 million a year at this rate. With GT Sport and Uncharted 4 releasing this year along with the other games they have I expect that rate to increase. They are going to exceed 50 million by the end of the year.

Bloodborne is the only great exclusive I can think of, granted I usually just play JRPGs so I'm not sure either.

I played Bloodborne, Toukiden : Kiwami, The Order, Until Dawn, Dragon Quest, Tearaway, Rocket League ( isn't exclusive anymore ), Dragon Quest Heroes, Helldivers, Everybody's Gone To The Rapture.... And that's a just a half of exclusive games in 2015. I didn't had time to play the rest of exclusive lineup. Maybe this year.

If you have problem to play these games....That's your problem.

That curse is relative though. It's the fastest selling Xbox console. So from a buisness point of view, Xbox has never been stronger. So that's a high note for MS's PR team. They can keep touting that fact for the whole gen probably. It's just that the PS4 exists and it's doing better than the PS2. People also forget that the PS3 sold at a much faster rate than the 360. It just released a year after.

To be fair TC was about as accurate as Pachter. All those times he told me I'd eat crow over NPD *wipes tear from eye*

Rocket league was never exclusive, heck a few of those aren't exclusive let alone worth dropping a few hundred dollars on a new console for them
