Sony Sales WELL OVER 35 Million PS4. 5.7 Million Over the Holidays.
So, what´s "new" ?
I think Halo 5 flopping helped.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
So PS4 has sold 36 million with supposedly "no games". How much is it going to sell this year when its swimming in exclusives?
It will easily sell another 15 - 18 million units this year. So 50+ million total by the end of 2016.
I actually think 60 million by the end of the year is possible. The system should permanently hit $299 sometime this year and with exclusives like Uncharted 4, Street Fighter V, GT Sport, Horizon, TLG, Ratchet and Clank, Persona 5 among others sales should be higher than last year.
It's going to have to sell 24.1 million approximately to get there. I don't think that's going to happen.I think the max it's going to sell is 22 million thid year. Maybe in shipments it could reach 60 million, but I think that is unlikely also. This is even with a price drop.
I would predict the Xbone sold between 2.5-3 mill during the holiday season.
The worldwide sales of the Xbox One this past holiday season are bad enough that Microsoft refuses to admit to them in public.
I would predict the Xbone sold between 2.5-3 mill during the holiday season.
Without strong sales from Europe and Japan this is highly unlikely.
I don't think they sold that many Xbones. 80% of Xbone sales come from the US, it sells badly in Europe and it's basically dead in Japan. Where are you expecting those million of units sold to come from?

If we include all of november and december it should be around there, but I'm not sure if it would be around their if we started from the start of the holiday season which is from like late november to late december. It should have sold at least 2 million in the last 40-50 days. And 80% of the xbox one sales do not come from the US it's actually less than that. It'a under 70% still.

Most people on GAF say it's 80%. Where are you getting less than 70% from?

I'm using the total ltd of the xbox one in the US. The total ltd of the xbox one is probably only going to be around 11 million by the end of the year most likely in the US. Unless the xbox one sold like three million in the rest of the world since launch the split between the xbox one and the rest of the world should still be under 80% and even under 70% most likely. 80% of whatever the xbox one sold this year could have came from the US, but the max the xbox one is going to sell this year is under 5 million in the US using NPD data gaf collected for this year. The rest of the world could have provided an extra 1.5 million to that total, because I don't think it's selling bad enough in Europe and the rest of the world to not make the split under 80% last year between the rest of the world and the US.
Congrats:!!! and well deserved for the best console out there.
At this rate the 55 millions mark will be easily reached by the end of the year, with all the exclusives coming and a perm price cut.
For those that doubted the console to even reach the 30 millions mark...Well roasted crow time!!!
I'd love to be at top level Microsoft meetings right now.
"Should we work toward a next generation Xbox launch in 2018 ?"
"Should we take more time, think about 2019 or 2020?"

I'm not gonna necro that thread but we have a definitive answer to this question:
http://www.gamespot.com/forums/system-wars-314159282/will-ps4-reach-35-million-by-the-end-of-the-year-32258930/
Some hilarious lowball predictions in there from the usual suspects.
LOL Thanks for the laughts.
I think some of you don't realize not everyone is badass enough to have 3 or 4 systems to game on.
So the PS4 is a great system to buy.
I know it's shocking, but it's true.
Now release some worthwhile exclusives
That salt so what PC only game made it to GOTY...lol
Oh wait the topic is about PS4 sales not about worthwhile games nice DC.
Rocket league was never exclusive, heck a few of those aren't exclusive let alone worth dropping a few hundred dollars on a new console for them
You don't drop a few hundred for 1 or 2 games, that is silly but then again it doesn't have 1 or 2 games, you know is funny i expected to come into the thread and find NyaDC doing the damage controls not you, this threads never stop giving you never know who will be the next salty fanboy changing the topic and derailling the thread because he can't downplay those numbers.lol
The third console curse
Na the xbox brand had that curse since the first platform even with the 360 in then end they ended 3rd and losing.
Proof that you can have a successful console with no games so long as you advertise the shit out of it.
lol... sure it doesn't.
People who refuse to see that the PS4 does have games, are blinder than a mole, you don't take a console home without a game, the biggest sellers in all platforms are multiplatforms, doesn't mean the PS4 doesn't have exclusives,it does this holiday Until Dawn,Tearaway,Disgaea,DQ Uncharted collection this games are not on PC or xbox, sony had an uncharted collection bundle that sold great.
In fact on amazon the Uncharted bundle charted on spot 15 in the top 100 of 2015,Halo bundle didn't chart in the top 100,and Gears bundle charted in spot 28,as you can see is not about what you think the PS4 has or lack is about what other people see it has, that Uncharted bundle beat the start wars one by quite a few spot on amazon top 100 of 2015.
That's because their shittiness is not masked by heavy marketing and hype.
No shittyness can't be masket people see the xbox with less games and inferior ones, they see the wii u with no 3rd party suppor and even more inferior games, and they can make an educated choise,if you chose any of the other 2 consoles you either like Halo or MS crap or simply like the brand because seeing all 3 pit together is very hard to pick any of the other 2,specially for the same price since the damn wii u still is $299 so was the xbox one and PS3 this holiday.
I dont think they'll pass 50 MILLION by the end of this year. They probably get close to 50 but not pass it.
I mean lets be honest here. What else does the PS4 have to attract that much massive attention for the second half of the year?
Yeah we got Uncharted 4 comming and that will move like an extra 2-3 million console by itself, but what other big franchise name system seller does Sony have left? Nothing till maybe TLoU 2 comes along.
Sony have good games comming, but not notable system sellers mass attraction type.
SF5,Uncharted 4,Ratchet and Clank,Tomorrow Children,Horizon,No Man Sky,Dreams,HellBlade,Nier Automata,Persona 5,The last Guardian,World of Final Fantasy.
Some of the games coming there are more, most are PS4 exlusive some share with PC like SF5.
At the rate that it is selling i see it quite easy to reach 50 million.
The PS4 had 20.2 million units as of March 1 2015,that mean that in 9 months sony sold an incredible 15.7 million units, that is more than a million units per month,so i don't see how they can't sell 15 million more in 12 months when they sold more than that in 9 months last year.
I see them doing 55 million by the end of the year, they could hit this number releasing no first party games also, people are buying Ps4's like hot cakes. It doesn't need first party at all, Sony giving any first party games is a bonus this gen from them. Sony PR is the best I've seen since the iPod.
I'd love to be at top level Microsoft meetings right now.

He was da man, I'd love to see his return. The NextBox would be beastly, I have little doubt.
The Xbox One is far from dead and irrelevant. When Microsoft themselves gloats about how the Xbox One is outpacing comparable 360 sales in the same time period, is hyping the Xbox One as the best selling system in the Xbox family, and is calling this their best holiday ever, I don't think Microsoft is anywhere near finished.
The only reason why none of this is as impressive is because Sony is doing even better.
The PS4 will reach 50 to 60 million and I can see the Xbox One reaching 30 to 40 million by the end of the year.
Both platforms are currently outpacing the most popular systems in their families.
Take what MS say with a truck load of salt.
For example they have being claming record breaking sales since the console arrived fact is that mean little, the xbox 360 had a shortage on launch that lasted until April 2006,on launch there were only 500k units to sell,1 million by the end of the holidays that is all they could output because of hardware problems.
The xbox one shipped 3.9 million in just 1 holiday but 900k went unsold,January,February,March and several months like those the xbox 360 actually outpase the sales of the xbox one for those months because MS saturated the market, something the 60 didn't do.
The xbox 360 shipped 10 million units as of December 31 2006,the xbox one shipped close to 10 million by November, but it was by again over stuffing the channels, they shiped way more units than what people were buying the results are clear early shipments of xbox one units dropped like a stone on 2015 just like they did on 2014,basically the xbox one is barely outding the xbox 360 is probably 1 million or 2 ahead, which mean nothing if you consider that the xbox 360 sales were hurt at launch by low shipments do to poor yields and shortages, worse add to this that the xbox 360 didn't get a price drop 4 months after releasing nor was being bundle with freebies like the xbox one,the xbox 360 first price drop happen 2 years after launch in 2007 and was just $50,the xbox one this holiday was selling for $299 that is $200 less than the original price + with 1 or 2 games.
The xbox 360 on 2007 same time frames was just $50 less than the launch price and didn't have any free game bundle in at all,it was selling on Halo 3,Bioshock,Mass Effect COD bundles alone which did charge you for the game.
So you see once you see through MS propaganda,is clear that even that the xbox one is doing better than the 360,they were not sold under the same terms or have limilar situacions,in fact if the xbox 360 would have being sold in 2007 for $199 with a free game it would have put a great fight vs the wii and even beat it,and destroy completely the PS3,the xbox 360 wasn't being sold for $200 less than launch price in 2 years of launching.
lol 40 million xbox one by the end of the year no chance in hell,it has take then like 2 years to be close to 20.
Those that keep saying Sony is selling 18 million PS4 consoles a year need to go back to school and review addition and subtraction.
Sony said they sold around 4.2 million consoles in 2013, meaning in the 2 years since, they've sold a little less than 16 million a year on average. So they will be a tad over 50 million if they keep selling at a similar rate.
Though I would guess it would be a little more north of that as it looks like Sony may finally have worthwhile exclusives in 2016.
Dude 1 year mean 12 months so is from November 2013 to November 2014,from nov 2014 to nov 2015 that is consider 2 years,is basically 25 months if you add December 2015.
Is selling 1,440,000 units per month.
1,440,000 X 12 = 17,280,000 That is very close to 18 million.
I am rounding the number to 36 millions instead of 35.9.
So yeah 35.9 + 17.2 = 53.1 million, mind you that this is the year where most PS exclusives hit, including big ones like Uncharted, and new series like Horizon and The last Guardian as well.
half your list isnt even exclusive.,..
How was Rocket League exclusive when it was cross online play with PC since day one?
Yes, they are exclusives. MLB is exclusive to PS platforms, even if game is on PS4 and PS3 and PS Vita. That's a exclusive game.
Rocket is ( was ) exclusive console game even if game is on PC. Now, game was announced for Xbone.
Helldivers is also console exclusive, even if game is also released for PC
I dont think they'll pass 50 MILLION by the end of this year. They probably get close to 50 but not pass it.
I mean lets be honest here. What else does the PS4 have to attract that much massive attention for the second half of the year?

Sony sold over 17 mil. consoles in 2015. without some bigger hits. So, 14 mil. to 50. In 2016 VR is here, Uncharted 4 is here, GT Sports also and Horizon and so on.... Yep, over 50 at the end of 2016.
Now release some worthwhile exclusives

>Remasters are exclusives
>Until Dawn, Tearaway, Disgaea and uncharted collection
That's a really, really pathetic list. whenever console fanboys try to defend their "no gaems" they just end up embarrassing themselves. I hope you understand that the "no gaems" meme isn't to be taken literally even in regards to exclusives, it's just used to mock lackluster exclusive libraries.
Xbox1 and PS4 are almost just as terrible as one another in that regard. The only reason PS4 came out on top is because Microsoft fucked themselves over to the extent that no amount of marketing could save them. Then, all Sony had to do was advertise the PS4 and make promises of delivering exclusives in 2-3 years to build up hype, They barely had to do anything other than those two things. And here we are, 2 years and over 35 million sales in and with a-still-pretty-fucking-shitty ps4 exclusive library, Sony hasn't actually done anything to add value to their console as of yet.
So yeah, the PS4 is selling on marketing and hype.
Sony made a name for themselves with the massive success of PlayStation 2. Hell even if they make a product worse than Microsoft like they did with PS3, they will still outsell MS. The reality is, with 3 companies that make consoles, yet th demand still high, it sales will always look good

I sold my PS4 because it was collecting dust for so long compared to my PC.At this rate, it looks like I'll be getting a cheap one in 2017 maybe. In other news..., Can't wait for Persona 5 to come out,...whenever the hell that's happening. Atlus can't make up their minds apparently.
Mind you, this is from a PC gamer's perspective.

Ironic usage of the word "salty"
@tormentos: lol what? You are hugely inflating the numbers by including the holiday season but not accounting for the flater months before and after it. Either take off the initial year of sales, or throw in the first 2 years at ~30 million and you still get around 15 million a year, which is the current rate.
Cool your jets, your precious corporate box is still selling at quite the rate, just not as fast as you think it is. What's 1-2 million consoles sold a year difference to you? Are you financially invested in Sony's future?
@quadknight: nope.. MS is big in the US as well as Europe and Australia.

No, you are wrong
@flyincloud1116: Yup.. good numbers. Now we just have to see if they will surpass the 155 million the PS2 sold generation. Meantime the XB1 needs to outsell the Xbox 360 which is just over 87 million. The race is on.
Neither will happen. The ps4 will most likely barely beat the Wii and PS1 if it continues to sell well while the xbox one will sell above the N64 and probably even the SNES.
@quadknight: nope.. MS is big in the US as well as Europe and Australia.
I live in the UK (Scotland) and from what I have personally seen, Xbox is anything BUT huge; in fact in my class a couple of days ago people were talking about the new systems and they just made fun of the Xbox One the whole time.

Do you have any kind of link for your claim of "nope"?
Three different users provided some links (IGN and Eurogamer) and a UK story from overseas.
The 360 was a different story as it was more popular, for sure.
Also, there is the Xbone sales data (roughly a third of the PS4 total sales) over the last two years which shows the vast majority of Xbone sales (70%-80%) from the US. Unfortunately, M$ is hiding the current numbers from now on so we can't get an accurate tally anymore.
There is also the library gap of the machines to consider. Although both machines released at about the same time in Nov 2013, the PS4 has 300+ more games (both retail AAA games and digital games) than the Xbone, and part of that support is simply it's sales lead and/or regional support overseas. For the record, that library gap has only been growing. I remember in 2013 when it was only a dozen or so titles difference. Checking into the upcoming games list for both machines is quite telling (as the PS upcoming releases is larger).
It all comes back to sales, imo, or in the Xbone's case, the lack of sales which do not encourage developers. The parity clause is also in play for some developers, but I think the massive sales lead is the largest reason for this library gap at retail stores and on the digital front.

Sales isn't a concern for the Xbox, LOL. It is selling better than the Xbox Original, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U, and is at nearly 20 million sold. The developers have been and continue to make stellar games for it, and in crazy good numbers.
@quadknight: nope.. MS is big in the US as well as Europe and Australia.
PS4 market share "frequently greater than 90 per cent in continental Europe"

No, you are wrong

I live in the UK (Scotland) and from what I have personally seen, Xbox is anything BUT huge; in fact in my class a couple of days ago people were talking about the new systems and they just made fun of the Xbox One the whole time.

@quadknight: nope
Do you have any kind of link for your claim of "nope"?
Three different users provided some links (IGN and Eurogamer) and a UK story from overseas.

Hiding numbers? Kinda like when $ony hides numbers when combining PS2 and PS3 sales along with Vita sales? LOL...$ony is just as shady.
