They lost 6 billion dollars in one quarter. Dropping the price and taking more of a loss will bring them one step closer to being out of business so I welcome it.
The best a major pricedrop will do is nothing considering it took a huge pricedrop and Mariokart, mario 3D, and Monster hunter to turn the 3DS around.
Oh Sony... you delusional company you. Remember these are the same guys that got on stage and expected huge applause at the 500-600$ PS3 launch price! Then they wondered why they were in last place for a few years, till the PS3 was starting to compete when it was down to $400.
Im not knocking the Vita in terms of it's hardware. Do I think it is an impressive system? Yes. But time has proven that all the hardware muscle in the world doesnt mean crap without the games to back it up. And sorry Sony I just dont see the point of paying close to $400 (system + memory card + 1 game) just to have a PS3-like experience on the go.
This was a major problem with the PSP: they tried to make it seem like a portable PS2. And a good portion of its game library were ports, sequels, or remakes.
Unless they price drop it to match the 3DS, there is no way they are going to get even close to their 10 million target for this fiscal year. Watch if they do drop the price at E3 people will wonder if they will score free games because Nintendo did it. I highly doubt they will. It took the PSN being down for a month to compensate gamers and even then the offered games were junk.

The sad part about it is....this is the ACTUAL mental process PS3 fanboys use:|
Cows STILL think this is going to magically happen, for no reason.
It's doubtful. If I had to guess on the conservative side -
That's a little over 5 million. And I'm just basing this off the known software (Call of Duty and Assassins Creed releases included) , and an assumed $50 cut right before the holidays. There could be some surprise revelations throw in the libarary mix like Soul Sacrifice or bigger known franchises. The fiscal library of Vita will become clearer at E3.
Didn't the PSP sell 62 million over its lifetime? Not bad, especially when they have higher hopes for the Vita.
With a price drop and the holiday season blitz, I don't see how this isn't possible, and I'd argue this is actually likely.
The PSP was fresh and exciting. Many adult gamers gave handhelds a chance for the 1st time in their lives. But things have faded because all of the money needed to be reserved for AAA console gaming + combined with the rise of smart phones with cheap time waster games as a supplement. The landscape has changed.Didn't the PSP sell 62 million over its lifetime? Not bad, especially when they have higher hopes for the Vita.

PS3 gamers are more intelligent than the mouth breathers who buy 360's and Wii's. They want games with deep and engaging narratives and challenging game play to tax their enormous brains.
They wont buy COD or any other mainstream videogame.
I can see that happening. They just wont be able to expect to get much help from Japan with them only selling around 10,000 units a week there.
EDIT: Ah after thinking about it some more, I find it doubtfull. They might be able to pass 7 million units if there is a price drop and assuming they have a nice line-up for the holiday season.

Cod is the best selling game on a ps3 system....
And the best selling PS3 exclusive is a racing game....
if they keep losing 2.8 billions per year ain't gonna happen :lol:TessellationThis. What Sonys rediculous fanboys dont understand is.....there isnt THAT many more "billions" left for them to keep doing this:|
How many more billions do you think Sony, a company with $18 billion dollars left to their name (who was in the $40 billions just 3-4 years ago) has that they can just pull $2.8 and $6.4 Billion dollar losses out of thin air, and go about their day business as usual?
Sony upped their forcasted losses to $3.4 billion dollars a few months ago, and then DOUBLED it a week or so ago. How many more times do you think Sony has left to do that? :?
So then, they finally give us their expectations for the Vita... and it's nigh-on insane. :| I'd like to laugh, but this is just too stupid to find any humor in.
I think Vita just proves Sony didn't learn from the PS3.
Over priced. Weak Exclusives. Losing money on every one sold and expecting to make up for it in game sales.
Sound familiar?
People in this site have a lot of confidence in people if they think a price cut or game announcements will affect the sales of the Vita (or any system) substantially.
If they are profecting 10 million sales, they either have a solid marketing plan in place to launch or they need one. Nothing more.
Sales have never been about anything other than marketing. People can't buy what they don't know about.
It would have to drop a ton of good games fairly soon for a starters.
Sony act like they have no competition.
Its nearly impossible to happen in the current situation but remember 2010 when they said they will sell 15 mils PS3 in that year and everyone was laughing but it ended up selling more than 15 mils anyway I suppose they have some plan for Vita this year E3 or TGS will have all the answers.
Major price drop plus relaunch coming. I can sense it. That's what this E3 will be about for them.charizard1605
Anything less than this and they can forget about 10 million.
The only way they'll pull that off is with a massive relaunch. The system is selling sooooooo sloooooooowly, and has no system sellers on the way.
I have to laugh at this prospect.
It'll push 2-3 million units max.
Wasdie
Me, too. LOL Sony.
Well they sold 57k Vitas in this months NPD so thats a start
This reminds me of PS3 when Sony had to revise their forecast and lower it 32 times in one year.
Only PS3 actually had games and a future. Vita will be discontinued within months.

Bigboi500
It reached 1.8 million didn't it? It could reach 2 million in the next couple months or so....
A lot of those sales were from early adopters who would have bought the system no matter what. Other sales won't come nearly as easy.Even though there isn't any possible way to prove that.[QUOTE="Shinobi120"]

Me, too. LOL Sony.
Its already hit 2 million :|
This is the number of units they expect it to sell from April 2012 through March 2013, not its total lifetime sales. Come on, you cows can't be this stupid, especially since you were always the first to call sheep out on it whenever they attempted to use similar arguments. Also, the Vita has not sold 2 million, it's still at 1.8 million, which is a whole 10% less than the 2 million you think it's sold.Well they sold 57k Vitas in this months NPD so thats a start

And there are still cows that to this day deny how big of a clusterphuck the PS3 has been this gen.
Cows gonna cow
Here is how I see it...
1. Sony Cuts the price to be competitive with the 3DS and iOS systems. I would say if it could get it to the range of $179-$199 it would no doubt have a very good chance of pulling sales. The only problem is, Sony is barely recovering from the losses of the PS3 and making profit, and I don't know if PSV is selling at a loss, but Sony cannot afford anymore price cuts so early. If they do, it's good for consumers (in the short run) but very bad for sony both Short and Long run of it. Sony cannot sell at a loss.
2. Sony plans to heavily market and pusht he PSV, has a lineup of exclusives and content coming soon, that they think will push this many sales.
For it's Fiscal Year, I'm guessing Sony will probably sell around 3-4 million, possibly. It's hard to say, because sales are so low, it needs software and hype up the interest. If E3 doesn't show a strong lineup, the system will be losing much more ground, and it may be lucky to reach 2-3 million. I'm betting Nintendo's E3 is going to be a great year for the 3DS and Wii U. The 3DS has many games we know are coming this year, and if Nintendo can give us final release date information for these titles, along with teasing us some new exclusives and digital content/announcements, we probably will see the 3DS gaining a wider gap on the PSV.
