[QUOTE="DarkLink77"] The difference being that it's a Nintendo handheld, and the majority of it's best games will be games made by Nintendo that are designed to be played on a handheld. On the flip side, the best PSP games would have been better on a console.DarkLink77

You make no sense and sound extremely bias.

Okay, here's an example: Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem gains nothing by being on a console except graphics. The gameplay is the same, the controls are the same, and you can still play it in bite-sized chunks on the go based on how the game is set up. God of War: God of War gains a ton by being on a console. Better graphics and processing power (which is important because God of War is all about spectacle), a bigger screen, which makes a difference since you can see more stuff and God of War is designed to be played on a big screen, better controls (another set of shoulder buttons, etc), and the game is not designed to be played in portable bites, like Fire Emblem is. God of War gains literally nothing by being on a handheld, save for the fact that there's a God of War game on a handheld.

Yea execpt the GOW games work on the handheld and play well. You would ahve a point if it was a trainwreck of a game on a handheld. Thankfully thats not the issue here. The fact is if I want to nibble on GOW on the go I can now and it isint the same story or local its a difference experiance. Just when your done you flick stand by then put it on hold and bam your done.

im sorry no if your putting hte psp and ngp on that boat you have to put the 3ds too since its doing the same thing. SF4 anyone.

Thank you.

Nintendo has announced an impressive list of titles for the 3DS - Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Star Fox, Super Mario (N64/Galaxy style), etc. but they are all clearly "console-style games".

And they'll still be great, regardless of the fact that they could've been done on Cafe or wherever (without the 3D, though), but yes both companies are making console-like games on their portable systems. That's just a fact.

Everyone just needs to wear baggy trousers. Phone calls on a gaming handheld? I am glad it doesn't!

But they would be significantly better on a console. That's the point. The only thing putting a current gen console-esque game on a handheld does is water it down.

Even though its a portable, not fitting into a pocket is not a big deal for me. I always stored my PSP in a sturdy case which added bulk and I always carried it in my bag. Never once did I put it naked into my pocket, same goes with my DS Lite.

I don't really see what makes Fire Emblem any better to play on the go than God of War. GOW is a simple game to just boot up and waste some time killing monsters. Heck, that GOW-style gameplay is what made Hero of Sparta (Gameloft's GOW clone) on the iPhone a hit.

And if they add in a save-anywhere feature to GOW it would become, boom, instant mindless easy-to-pick-up fun on the go.

I do agree that playing GOW on a big, fullscreen TV is quite a sight to behold, and the PSP's control issues marred many game experiences. But both of those issues seem to have been addressed with the NGP: the screen is much bigger now, and the controls have all the main PS3 controller abilities plus new touchscreen abilities which could not be implemented on home consoles (until Project Cafe anyway, heh).

As an aside, the GOW games on PSP were slightly below PS2 quality in terms of graphics. Who's to say that Ready at Dawn had the type of resources necessary to make a spectacle on the level of God of War 3? The GOW games on PSP presented themselves, from the start, as spinoffs -- they likely could not have afforded the type of game development budget that a full retail God of War game on PS3 would have cost.

The thing is something like chains didint feel like any less of a gow game then one of its ps2 brothers. It still felt big and epic even though being in a small handheld. The fact of the matter is it worked. Could it have looked better and been even a huger spectical on a higher powered system yea sure but any other game could to.

Why would I put a handheld system in my pocket...? That's why my wallet and iPhone goes... :?

As for making calls, that's what a phone does. When the battery life of multimedia devices like PSP's can improve with phone functionalities, I'll look into it.:)

And like I said it isn't a deal breaker by any means, but it would be nice to be able to slip it back in your pocket after you got of the bus or train.

What I am upset about is that Sony didn't include a video output option for the NGP. It can output near-PS3 visuals, so why not let us choose what screen we get to play the game on?

Unlike the PSP's ugly video-out, the NGP's would actually look decent on our TVs.

I believe that feature is being saved for the NGP 2000.

I don't make phone calls (except to tell parents to pick me up) so that doesn't bother me. I do sometimes put my PSP in my pocket, but once I get to the car I take it out.

And then you have the dual analog sticking out.

Meh, not making phone calls isn't a huge deal and not fiting in your pocket is kind of an issue but as I said the 3DS forum; I look at handhelds as just another console that is handheld, not necessarily portable or mobile and I normally play them more on my couch than on the go.

ughh, why would it need to make phone calls? thats what we have cell phones for, also saying i dont believe it can't fit in your pocket, the psp fat can fit in my pockets and this looks about the same size if smaller.

Chris_Williams

It will fit in loose and fitted jeans no problem....skinny jeans cant hold the 3DS so thats a wrap on that one. The PSV is longer than the PSP, but it is also thinner.

Depending on the pants I have on for the day, my wallet and DS lite fit fine in my pants for one pocket, and my phone in the other. Also depends on how much money is actually in my wallet too :P Either way, I generally take my handheld to school with me and have a backpack, so it won't be a big problem. 90% of the time, I play handhelds in my house... why wait to go somewhere to play a game?

I have an iPhone, and.. I can totally understand what they're trying to convey. No matter how many apps or games my phone has/ can get, it will never be a gaming system, it will always be a phone. I won't ever have a true gaming experience on my iPhone, and it was the same when I had an HD7.

Another problem with using a phone for a gaming system is battery usage. Its primary use is as your phone, one thing you don't want to do is run the battery all the way down, so you aren't available to get ahold of and can't text or make calls. If an NGP dies, well... so what?

Phones =/= portable gaming.

That seems like a strong argument most people forget to mention in the Phones/Portable Gaming debate.

About less then an inch the PSP is 6.69" wide, 2.8" tall, and .75" thick

The NGP is 7.17" wide, 3.28" tall, and .73" thick

Size Comparison

Probably because Sonys already got a gaming phone and letting the NGP make phone calls would kill that other phone game system of theirs.

Maybe you should invest in one? You know... like how Sony said people will work harder for a PS3, and those other silly claims where people will do what it takes to overcome the shortcomings the company offers just for you to fully enjoy the thing you want. So... Start buying those man bags Game!!! and buy me one too... :P

I'm sure if it was able to fit into our pockets, something would have to be sacrificed -- like screen size for instance, and then everyone will complain that the screen is too small and they'd rather be playing it on their TVs.

Just because it won't fit into your pocket doesn't make it any less portable people....

The_Game21x

For me it does. I don't carry a man bag so I'd have no place to put the darned thing.

Can just buy an accessory back and wrap it around your shoulder if you wanted. I could see how some wouldn't like this though.

"[Microsoft and Nintendo] are starting to run out of steam now in terms of continuing to be relevant in 2011 and beyond. I mean, you've gotta be kidding me. Why would I buy a gaming system without a hard drive in it? How does this thing scale? Motion gaming is cute, but if I can only wave my arms six inches, how does this really feel like I'm doing true accurate motion gaming? Our view of the 'Game Boy experience' is that it's a great babysitting tool, (but) no self-respecting 20-something is going to be sitting on an airplane with one of those. Well whatevs, I thought the PSP was going to be too big for my pants and I made it work. Seeing as I don't (and will never, EVER) wear skinny jeans, I'm sure I can find a way to fit the NGP into my pocket. :P

Well, maybe you will be playing it so much that you would never want to put it in your pocket! Did you ever think of that, Charizard? And maybe, it will have enough battery life to support extended levels of gaming time, unlike a certain other rival handheld that I won't mention! ; D

umm I knew they said arrogant things before. I was mainly talking about this topics artical. Since the guy mentioned arrogance in this topic yet nothing was said that would apply them being arrogant in this artical. So the comment was out of place.

With 3G and the type of hardware rumored to be in the NGP I doubt it. :P

It is like an iPad, you take it where ever you go and it doesn't fit in your pocket but it is smaller, has better games and isn't used for business. I want one! :D

I knew this wasn't gonna go undetected .... very stupid thing to say ..... but for the record, the device is called portable when it's portable not because it can fit into ur pocket ...... I never thought of anyone who would do that anyway.
