Sony loss.

Piracy leads to hardware surges, especially in 3rd world gaming markets like non-japan asia, middle east, and south africa, even south america.

Surprise surprise, 360 vastly outsells PS3 in the above territories cause they pirate the games very easily.

-Divinity-
It also has a detrimental effect, i.e. PSP software sales. Works both ways. I think the last thing Sony wants is even less hardware sales considering they lose money on the hardware.

good job sony. its not blu-ray thats doing it though, its the OS updates. it seems that sony have become very effective at plugging holes. they also update reguraly. so even if u do manage to crack ure PS3 and get a pirated game working on it, if u update the firmware then the game will probably stop working again. if u dont update then u cant use PSN (in any offical capacity anyway) and newer games wont work. nintendo has started to do the same thing (if ure wii is modded then a firmware update will make it a paperweight. updates also delete improper files such as modded save files that try and exploit weaknesses in the OS) but the problem is they dont update reguraly enough. MS are being a bit to soft as far as i know (the worst they will do is kick you off live). there updates should be destroying modded 360s and they should be on a regular basis.

why pay more to pirate than to buy it? blu ray is the only thing stopping it, once br disks and more importantly writers get cheap ps3 piracy will sky rocket.

PS3 anti-piracy benefits from an expensive format and lack of worthwhile games.

I don't know if thats really a good thing.

And its still in last place, and its still made sony lose every bit of profit they made from the ps2 generation.

Blank BR disc 8$....BRRW 200$....10 BR PS3 games cost 600$....10 copied games are $280...do your math...
