I forgot about Demon Souls which has an 89 metascore. Sony clearly outclassed the competition last generation.

Like Sony's IPs were really THAT good. lol Naughty Dog pulled everyone else's weight. asides from their IPs, Sony's other IPs were pretty lackluster.

3 new AAA IPs last gen in Uncharted, Little Big Planet and The Last Of Us. How many did Nintendo and Microsoft produce? Xbox 360 had Gears and Nintendo had nothing that I am aware of.

And Mass Effect. Microsoft funded and published the first Mass Effect. just because they let it go to PC a year later, and PS3 6 years later doesnt change that.

Nah if I can play it on another system it isn't exclusive.

Doesn't change the fact that MS introduced some good new IPs last gen

Gears

Mass Effect

Viva Pinata - hahahha seriously? viva fu%kin pinata

Shadow Complex - 2d side scroller i can live without, quite boring actually got to the 1st boss and lost interest

Fez - indie game hooray!!

Alan Wake

Toy Soldiers - hahahaha is this another indie game that no one cares about?

Splosion Man - horrible

Orcs Must Die - wtf is this sh%t never heard of it

Dust

Mark of the Ninja

All published by Microsoft. Just because they aren't all exclusive doesn't mean that MS isn't bringing great games.

what a great list of games u have there hahaha in 7 years is that all?

What's Microsoft's big IP next year again? Oh yeah, Halo.

Nintendos'? Mario Kart lol

and ps4's? uncharted

The Order 1886. New IP from a new developer(to home consoles) getting a MAJOR push....

Wii U has X.

X isn't a new IP.

Yes it is.

By same people who made Xenogears and code named "X". I'm skeptical.

Xenogears. Xenosaga. Xenoblade.

Three different games, three different IPs, all sharing the same metaphysical theme, all made by this same developer.

This is going to be a new IP too. You can be skeptical all you want, I don't much expect anything from your opinion especially when it comes to non PlayStation stuff, and it won't change the facts.

That is like saying each numbered Final Fantasy is a new IP. Agree to disagree.

No, it's not.

It's like saying that Bioshock and System Shock are different IPs, which they are. Sharing the same meta themes and developer doesn't make them the same IP.

See, I'll give you this- X is still a working title. If it is explicitly announced as a sequel to Xenoblade (which it might be, now that Nintendo owns Monolith, they might make them work on a sequel to a highly popular title), then sure, I'll concede it's not a new IP. However, until then, there is zero reason not to consider it a new IP.

Plus all he was saying is that because the PS4 sold so much, they have money to fund more risky IPs. Well, that's what you get when you hype up "next gen" as they did.

With all those people who bought a ps4, they better get some announcements soon, because right now it's in paperweight status.

Not true. Sony had the most new IPs last gen. Even pushed them late: Beyond, TLoU, and Puppeteer.

Cool, and I personally appreciate that.

I would also appreciate those IPs being better. I'm not expecting homeruns everytime, but I would at least like your worst case scenarios to be better than mediocre. Because there was a good chunk of sony ips that frankly stunk sans a game or two.

Quantic Dream was confirm to be working on a new IP.

GG was confirm to be workig on a new IP as they were working of KZ:SF.

Santa Monica Studios should be working on something, right now they are just helping out Ready at Dawn studios on The Order 1886.

Media Molecule said they were done with LBP, so lets see what they come up with.

Then we have the WarHawk/Starhawk devs, they have to be on something (I hope to god its a real WarHawk game this time).

And the Motorstorm devs, what are they up to?

Well, if you want to use GS and games that scored an 8 they also published State of Decay(same score as TLOU), Battleblock Theater, Iron Brigade and Monday Night Combat. Then you also have solid games that got a 7 like Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, Charlie Murder, Skulls of the Shogun, Ilomilo and The Maw.

When I play games like Puppeteer and Little Big Planet, I get an appreciation of Sony's creative potential. But a lot of their new IPs are pretty mediocre or bad, too.

Their recent "Kart" and "Smash" attempts have failed pretty badly. Knack didn't do too well.

Cant help but laugh at the damage control here, Sony published The Last of Us, Puppeteer, Rain, Tearaway, Beyond Two Souls, and Knack this year, and thats just off the top of my head.

They also have Freedom Wars, Drive Club, and The Order:1886 confirmed for next year, and thats just what we know about.

Says alot about the fanbases for each system tbh.

And Sony wishes they have something that they can milk.

There is a reason why Mario and Link survived for so long while their contemporaries flaked out.

Problem is, Arcade games are no reason to own $400 and $500 hardware. I didn't buy a 360 at launch with the expectations that most of the best games released would be something my dated laptop could handle.

You can't say for a second that an XBLA title can come even close to being in the same league as a Halo, Uncharted, TLOU or a Gears of War. I mean if that's the kind of gaming I wanted to do, I would just use my $200 Acer and play cheap games from Steam.

More commited to abandoning old IPs everyone cares about for New IPs. Love it Sony!

Although they do seem to be caring more about their IPs than they did in the past. Maybe now we'll see a new Med-Evil.

I don't doubt that based on recent history. But new IPs were not a big time pay off financially for Sony TC. But they have been critically.

More of a payoff than any news IP by Microsoft. I would say Nintendo too but garbage like Wii Fit and Wii Sports sold a ton in bundles.

Also taking chance on these games must not be a huge risk because they keep doing it.

Sadly those new IPs typically reskin ideas from other popular titles, and are usually poorly done.

This.

Also, people may call Mario out for a constant stream of games, but SM3DW changed more since Galaxy than there are differences between, say, Killzone & Resistance. Sony aren't really innovative in the sense that Nintendo or even Valve have been. Their highlight over the past generation in terms of unique IP would probably have to be LittleBigPlanet.

That's a cop-out and those games are only there because Microsoft is too cheap to fund AAA game development. They would rather spend their money making retro clone mini-games and locking down 1 month early COD content. I bet those checks written to Activision alone could have funded a retail AAA exclusive.

Heavy Rain, Beyond, Puppeteer, Starhawk and Tearaway were pretty innovative whether you liked them or not. What has Valve done recently?

Sony had the most AAAe exclusives this past generation and most of them were new to this generation. God Of War III, MGS4 and Killzone 2 were the only carry-overs from the previous gen. #truthfacts

Sony loves to do a lot of talking. I don't really see anything come of it.

@StrongBlackVine:

The funny thing is, Heavy Rain was offered to M$ first. They turned it down because they found the story content to be too objectionable. Same would have been true for TLOU just based on the opening footage. Not like TLOU would have ever got the green light to begin with though had ND belonged to M$. Just like Bungie leaving in order to be able to make anything besides Halo, Naughty Dog would have been told they could make Uncharted only. Maybe even with a Kinect spinoff.

As for Vslve? They haven't made jack shit.

That's a cop-out and those games are only there because Microsoft is too cheap to fund AAA game development. They would rather spend their money making retro clone mini-games and locking down 1 month early COD content. I bet those checks written to Activision alone could have funded a retail AAA exclusive.

good games are good games

Good AAA game >>>> good indie game. IMO.

So agree that Journey shouldn't have gotten GOTY last year?

I see you do some typing and most of it is worthless.

Haven't played it so I can't comment. Also the preference for AAA is just my own preference, not every one's. Just as I don't like traditional RPGs for the most part, but I wouldn't say one shouldn't be GOTY.

Anybody who's got even the slightest semblance of rationality knows no other platform holder, possibly no other company in the industry, pushes new IP as much as Sony does. To argue that point is just stupid.

I didn't know he had a new IP coming, that's great news!

Yes, apparently it's a big project too

Like Sony's IPs were really THAT good. lol Naughty Dog pulled everyone else's weight. asides from their IPs, Sony's other IPs were pretty lackluster.

I like Suckerpunch way more than I like Naughty Dog.

This is why Sony first party is great. They make something for every one.
