That would really be something else is M$ pumped enough money into the acquisition to turn GTA VI into a 360 exclusive. Same can be said for Sony. This has potential to be... epic.

agreed if it becomes a bidding war. I hope it happens because then all the good sport games will be exclusive to 360, and they will take advantage of the system capabilities. PS3 cost too much so I wouldn't want it to be exclusive to Sony besides it would just compete with thier own sports division.

One company that says it's not in the running is Microsoft (Charts). Because today's independent publishers are platform agnostic - that is to say, they build games for all major systems - taking over one would result in a massive revenue loss for Microsoft, as all development would be redirected toward the Xbox 360.

"We could never launch an acquisition bid at a third party publisher," said Shane Kim, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios.

Well, heh. I rethought using the word "epic". I wasn't using it in terms of the company, I mean it as "gigantic" or "huge". My point was that making GTA VI a 360 exclusive would infuriate a lot of PS3 owners.

Yeah, SCEA isn't going for a bid either, check the first article. The two companies actively engaged are Ubisoft and Activision.

Personally I would like 1/EA to buy it cause at least it will be multiplatform on both consoles and PC. 2/Microsoft to buy it, well it will most likely be on X360 but it will also come on PC for sure. 3/Sony, well yeah only PS3 babe, I actually doubt they would even put it on PC... (due to MS and the new Vista Live thing)

This is bad news for gaming. "Take-Two’s recently restated financial results for fiscal 2006 saw revenue fall and the company record a net loss of $184.9 million. In addition, Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter recently issued a statement to his firm's clients, calling Take Two's shares “overvalued” and the company's path ahead “troubling.”

Yea, this could be huge... not just for GTA exclusivity but isn't 2k sports a susiduary of Take Two also?

And guys, Sony has just a big a chance to nab this as M$, their games division has been much more profitable. It's M$'s gaming division which would have to have a budget for the purchase, not Microsoft as a whole. And their gaming division is feeling pressure to become profitable this year (they've yet to make a profit since xbox)... so they have to be careful in their spending. Whereas Sony still has a last gen console that is beating its next gen competition as well as a portable which is selling pretty solidly... both of those are still bringing in profit for Sony's gaming division, but they are taking losses on the PS3. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

Once again Microsoft makes another blunder. First it was HS now this. They have the smallest in house game development, this could actually strengthen it. Oh well their loss. If they ened up not getting GTA IV good for them.

They didn't buy Heavenly Sword because the same team made Kung Fu Chaos for the original Xbox and it sucked. But the thing with this acquisition is that neither SCEA or MGS are going to buy it. The article suggests that Activision and Ubisoft are in the top bidding.

This is really huge. If MS doesn't win this and buy them they are nuts!! GTA is one of the biggest franchise in the gaming world with over 50 Million copies of their games sold. Meaning over $2 Billion in revenue from that game alone.

If MS was smart they'd buy them out and make GTA an exclusive. I would do it in terms of business for my company but personally I rather have it open for all gamers cause it's a great franchise

You must wonder though what this would mean for GTA IV in regards to the players (such as ourselves). Will this really impact our experience with the game? Assuming is still comes out on both platforms, I don't think we're really going to be affected by this.

Lol, this is exactly what I was saying... Microsoft's gaming division is not in a position to make this kind of purchase. Video gamers automatically associate the 360 with Microsoft as a whole, but their gaming division is the least successful arm of the company which has an impact on any decisions regarding revenue and spending.

They dont get the developers

The Developers can leave whenever they want to to a diffrent publisher, so even if they buy Take Two they cannot secure exclusive games.

The TC needs to change the title. Neither Microsoft nor Sony are in the bidding for this.

Think Again!

http://money.cnn.com/2007/03/09/commentary/column_gaming/?postversion=2007030911

Once again Microsoft makes another blunder. First it was HS now this. They have the smallest in house game development, this could actually strengthen it. Oh well their loss. If they ened up not getting GTA IV good for them.

True.. but do you think M$ would allow it competitor to secure this company when they're trying to win the console race? If Sony ends up with this bid you may aswell stick a fork in the 360... The only way this will turn out well is if EA purchases them.. That way the games will still remain multiplatform..

[QUOTE="too_much_eslim"]That is what I really don't understand. WHy would they make a crappy game then all of sudden decide to make an awesome game. Microsft should have just given them a second chance.DaysAirlines
*Well* I'm not inferring anything by this but if check out the Heavenly Sword website it doesn't say it's exlusive to the PS3 anywhere on there. Shane Kim told me.

 Boy wouldn't that raise some sort of H-E double hockey sticks on this board!

[QUOTE="Tamarind_Face"]EA is the one whose gonna buy this one, they want 2K sports... They want it to die.

it wouldnt be smart to buy a company and then just crush part of it, that would be a major loss

2K sports games arent big sellers, so it wouldnt be a big loss. And they can move the 2k sports devs unto the EA sports projects. EA wants GTA and 2k sports very badly.

I think EA wants this more than Ubisoft. Just a guess. How big would that make them?

Of course it would, that's how business works. You buy out and strangle the competition. This would give EA a stranglehold on the sports genre. Even if they continued any of the games in 2k's line, it wouldn't be with the full support that the games have enjoyed thus far. Eventually they'd sizzle out. Think about it, why would they want to put development money into two football, basketball, baseball, etc franchises when they would now have the opportunity to just focus on their own knowing that they don't have anymore competition?
