The funniest thing about all this, is that this article is almost 48 days old. Sony did not know Paramount, and Dreamwoks would be HD-DVD exclusive as of last week. So what does that mean, no Blu-Ray Transformers. Which actually sucks for me, I usually mostly use my PS3 to watch movies. My library is 15 to 1 in movies instead of games. This exclusivity changes things, and when HD-DVD players go down to the sub $200 range. People will buy more units. From what it looks like, is that both formats are going to be around for quite awhile. Until the next format comes around.Fusible
But Paramount and Dreamworks were paid $150-200 Million IIRC to be exclusive...and the exclusitivity contract ends in 2008 so...Paramount and Dreamwork pretty much just went exclusive for the money. Do you honestly think they'll stay exclusive when in 2008 there's 15 Million PS3 onwers and say 2 million Stand alone blu-ray owners compared to 1 million HD-DVD add-on owners and say 2.5 million HD-DVD stand-alone player owners?
[QUOTE="3picuri3"]this is like 6 months old -- and since then what has Sony done... and what has MS done, lol.
and LMFAO at 10 year product cycle. if they're still making PS3 games in 10 years i'll shoot myself. hopefully in about 3-5 years we get another xbox or ninty console :) or sega... please sega :)

PS2 is over 7 years old and still growing strong because even though Sony has released the next playstation they're still supporting theire old console. I can see the PS2 having a 10 year lifecycle...especially because of the Wii.
How long was Xbox's life cycle? 4 years..and then bam stopped manufacturing them, no more xbox projects, only 3rd party sports games. Pretty much killed the console when the 360 was released
so? you think i'm stupid or something? lol. i know how old the PS2 is, and guess what -- newer consoles are backwards compatible. I'd prefer to get a new console every 4 years that has improved capabilities that can still play older games (and games made for older systems). but hey, i'm a gamer raised on PC - I'm used to having and wanting access to the best that's out there for gaming, guess you're not.
i'd personally rather experience another 10 generations of consoles instead of 4-5 before I die -- maybe it's just me :)
Peter Dille:
"With the Xbox 360 you've got an inconsistent design, some have a harddrive, some don't, and none of them have Blu-Ray, and the HD DVD will be out of business in a matter of months. Is this a 10 year product? And by the way it doesn't even work. Do they want to be selling it for 10 years and refurbishing them all for 10 more years? I don't think that's a 10 year product. You could disagree with me, or they could disagree with me, but I'd put that up against the PS3 any day"http://n4g.com/industrynews/News-51673.aspx
'Owned'.
roadkill88
Owned? Are you serious? Here:
Blu-Ray Loses
Blue Ray and HD DVD evenly split.
Now, did I "Own you" with these quotes? Not really. Just like old Peter's comments these are the OPINIONS of one person. Don't try to claim ownage on old quotes from a biased source. It just ends up making you look silly.
To be honest I could care less about Blu-Ray or HD DVD because I bought my gaming system to play games. In all honesty I do believe the PS3 is the better hardware of the two systems. Form me, it just wasn't enough to justify getting a PS3 at this time. I was more interested in playing some good quality games at a fairly reasonable price and didn't want last gen technology so I got the Xbox 360 for now. I never owned the original Xbox (was a Sony fan) but what Sony offers for a gaming platform does not justify the price to me so I honestly will be enjoying the 360 for a few years till the PS3 is within the price range that I feel a console should be sold at.
I don't think I'm the only one who has made that same decision and jumped ship. I'll definately get a PS3 in the future (I'm one of the few who actually really liked Killzone) to play Killzone, Ratchet and Clank and a few other titles I loved on the PS2 but it's going to be quite a while. I'm actually hoping more people made the same decision and it hurst Sony so that console manufacturers will not get carried away with prices on their next systems. Nintendo had the right idea on price but I don't like Nintendo much (not since the SNES) and they could have offered a little more power in the system than they did to be honest.
If you like your PS3 then more power to ya. Just don't become so blinded by you fanboyism that you can't see that a good number of people prefer the 360 and have legitimate reasons. Sorry to burst your bubble but the PS3 and Blu-Ray are not the end all in technology and neither is the 360. In all honesty as a gamer you should be focusing on sending Sony a message to concentrate more on making a gaming system and less on an all-in-one entertainment device. The PS2 was successful because it was about gaming and because it was priced right. Sony has abandon their old philosophy and it's hurting them or at least it should be.

Can I borrow your crystal ball? Oh and when this deal runs out there will be 15 million PS3s in people's homes? I don't think so. Not without some large changes, but since I don't have a crystal ball, I will let you do all the future telling.

Getting a bit defensive are we?
Did I call you stupid?
The 360's BC is horrible.
The PS3's BC is Great w/ the EE, not sure about the software emulation since I do not have that model.
The Wii BC is Superb...but costly (if your downloading older games)
I don't want to buy a new console every 4-5 years. That is why I have a PC that I upgrade every 5 quarters (15 months).
Consoles don't reach their full potential till late in the gen. Who would have though that Shadow of the Colossus or RE4 could be done on the PS2?
You have a PC to experience the games at their full potential.
Short Console Life = Bad

Estimates buddy, estimates. What's to Stop Sony from reaching a 15 Million PS3 user base?
They already have ~4.5 Million. Sales increase the most during the last 3 months of the year. I can see PS3 reaching 7.5-8 Million by the end of the year (especially if they have another price drop). Then next year the PS3 will probably have another price drop.
15 Million is reachable.
Again these are just ESTIMATES.

If you go to any finance site, you'll see that deal extends well beyond 2010. Nothing has been confirmed beyond that, and either if it will go beyond that.[QUOTE="dhjohns"]Can I borrow your crystal ball? Same could be said for exclusive Blu-Ray studios. And the last time I checked (which was like 4 months ago) HD-DVD sells more discs per player than Blu-Ray.

that's true, altho i'm too lazy to look for the article.
hd dvd has a higher attach ratio and THAT'S the true measure of success...
NOT how many br movies they can give away and call "sold"....
[QUOTE="casey7672"][QUOTE="CreepyBacon"][QUOTE="casey7672"][QUOTE="dhjohns"][QUOTE="ShmenonPie"]Well, he's completely right, everything he says is true, it isn't a 10 year product, more like a 4 year one, like the original Xbox, and HDDVD will probably be dead in a few months.DoctorBunny
O'rly? How come this article is 6 months old and he states HD-DVD will be dead in a few months? Wrong again Pie. Thanks for playing.
Actually for all intensive purposes HD DVD is dead. For it to survive MS would need to start making it a standard on their 360's. And they're not going to. And he is right. Maybe a lot of people don't like it and like xbox, but it's true. They've already been making different consoles since the origional 360's release. Xbox consoles aren't long-lasting consoles before they make a new one.
:|
Honestly the pure BLIND ignorance i see sometimes is incredible. Does your console maker really mean that much to you that you are so blindly you can't believe anything they don't feed you? o.0
If HDDVD was dead like you claimed, i hardly think two major film studios would of just recently went exclusive to HD-DVD, or did Sony not tell you about that? :|
So you're saying I should believe all you xfans and not the facts. How long did it take Sony to make 3 consoles? PS1, PS2, PS3. How long did it take MS to make 3 consoles? xbox, 360, elite. What are all facts across the internet about Bluray vs HD DVD saying? Bluray outselling HD DVD 5-1. I should believe you:roll:
PS1 ps1 slim model, PS2, PSX, ps2 slim, and ps3.

that is true though, think about it the ps2 sold the most when it dropped below $200, and if sony plans to support the ps3 for ten years and when it hits that magical price of about $300 its going to sell like wild fire just like the ps2 did. i think ppl fail to see sonys stratagymattyomo99
