I've been playing games on consoles since pretty much forever and I have never really had any major gripes about them. I was fine with the fact that the majority of consoles games are locked at 30 FPS. Now that I bought a gaming PC, I can't imagine going back to 30 FPS. I was playing Metro on max settings and my frame rate was dipping down to a minimum of 30 FPS from 70 FPS and that was disappointing to see. To think, that used to be the norm for me. No more!

Ditto with everybody else in the thread. And our eyes detect variation very well. Honestly, a solid 30 FPS is probably more visually pleasing than a framerate that fluctuates between 30 and 70 (obviously it depends on how often it fluctuates).

You're implying fps on consoles is always stable? Plus you can lock fps on PC games.

In many console games, it is very steady. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1x7L6-0JJE

Yep. Console FPSes just feel so slow and clunky compared to PC. Mostly because of the controller, but visually and performance wise, we're way ahead. I don't know how anyone can play BF3 or CoD with a controller.

Of course the majority have a stable framerate but there are cases when there are issues with the stability of fps though and that's the point.I know everyone is saying how they enjoy the game anyway but it's a bit irritating when the framerate suddenly drops because of an explosion or too many npcs in the screen. Nothing gamebreaking but irritating nonetheless.

What else are they going to say? Are they going to admit that 30 FPS in First Person Shooters sucks?

Lol at all of the "I'd rather 30 FPS than fluctuating FPS" comments. I said the FPS dip in Metro 2033, one of the hardest to run games ever. Any other game, I maintain above 60 FPS and it's silky smooth. Consoles run at 30 FPS and can dip down close to 20 when under stress which looks awful.

How about this, you guys can enjoy your good games at 30 FPS, and I'll enjoy my good games at over double that? The difference between the 2 is vast.

Sigh, you caught me in a lie. I actually saw it dip to 25 once when the screen was going crazy. I overclocked the overclocked edition of the 7950 so it handles pretty well.

Once you've played FPS at 60FPS it is painful to go back to 30FPS. Games are playable at 30FPS, but the gameplay especially in real time combat games such as FPS is always considerably improved when it is 60FPS. Standards are just a lot higher on the PC.

Well the point is that the gameplay in real time combat games is substantially improved with 60FPS. I think that's the point. Not to say you can't enjoy games at 30FPS, they are just better at 60FPS.

This. 60-120 FPS on a 120Hz monitor is absolutely stunning. Obviously its impossible to tell the difference from 100 and 110 FPS, but being in that general ballpark is great. I turned the settings down on DiRT3 and ran a test and it said there was an average of 250FPS. Now THAT is pointless.

Well, some people care. I can't stand playing a stuttery game and that happens way too often in consoles. I'd rather have worse graphics and a better frame rate any day. If the hardware can't handle it well, then they should scale it down a bit to obtain smoothness.

Hmm I'd say that's a gross under-exaggeration, but you are free to continue thinking that. I started this thread only because I was amazed at the difference it made, not to get into arguments with steadfast console fans. Then again, this is the system wars area.

you dont having solid 30 actually.. your just has v-sync on.. we can turn it on and it will fluctuate to within 1-2fps of 30 or 60 or 120 (varying on monitor hertz and gpu capabilities. in fact v-sync is bad for you unless you have screen tearing or are hitting ultra high fps amount (200+)

I've been playing PC games and console games forever, and never once has the 30 fps limit on most console FPSs bother me. Sure it can be a bit jarring from going from Quake 3 or CSS to Halo, but that never ruined my fun.

I think if you've gotten to the point where 30 fps ruins fun for you, you need to take a serious look at your attitude towards gaming.

Its pretty redundant when pc gamers feel the need to circle jerk each other off about 60's fps and all that and guess what the majority of people don't care. I want people to enjoy their 60, 30 fps but don't sit here and tell people their not playing videogames right if they aren't playing 60 fps's, i grew up with 30 fps and lower, never bothered me once.

I play pc and console fps and i must not know what to look for cause they all are pretty much the same to me. SURE some pc games run really fast but so what? is that fps? or what? Ive never had issues..AND while playing some twitch shooters on console you can also speed up the gameplay to hyperseed and its crazy fun..keep in mind that I like games, and movies that losts of the so called "experienced people" dont..I never look to deep or read to much into things..I either enjoy or dont..

I sometimes feel like hermits just started gaming this gen. How in the world did you guys ever survive in the days of DX9 and past?

Enjoy your PC though and make the most of it. Don't spoil yourself too much though and close your mindas there are a number of good games on consoles as well.

While a good framerate is always important and I almost need 60 FPS constantly, 30 FPS on console doesnt seem too bad, because you are not whiping around (in First Person Shooters) as fast and often as you are on PC. which brings me to my point that PC not only wins in Framerates, but more importantly, in controls. It is SO hard to enjoy an FPS on console because of dual analog.
