Sound Effect King?

I was replaying Doom 3 earlier for the first time in years and what really amazed me was how good the game still sounds! Absolutely top notch...only games that come close imo are the Penumbra series and Stalker series possibly Cryostatis. The gun sounds in Bad Company 2 are worth a mention aswell! What do you guys think?

I laughed at the name, not the concept. Any "king" threads always make me lol.

Sound is more important to me than graphics. In fact, one of the first things I look for in a game is the quality of the music/sound fx/voice acting, etc.

Bioshock, for example, when I played the first 5 minutes of the game, I was blown away by the amazing sound. So much so, that when someone asks me why Bioshock is a great game, the first thing that I mention is the quality of the audio package.

BFBC2 or Killzone 2.

MW2 can sound really nice sometimes too.

Company of Heroes and BFBC are the best I've heard.

Dead Space is my number one pick. Games like Bad Company 2 and a lot of the other shooters people are mentioning have great sound as well, but none of them really stand out to me, as most of them host similar military-esquesound effects... Dead Space as a whole just sounds incredibly unique and it probably has among the most immersive sound effects I have ever heard in a video game.
