As for FF13-2, all I know is this. It has like ten different endings and a time travelling mechanic. This game is basically Chrono Break. I'm in. Doesn't hurt that I enjoyed the sh*t out of FF13.

I also heard in had an awesome story. GT gave the story a 9.8.The story was incredible, and the dream stories you can find are just fantastic. I love the characters, but dislike or hate all of the character designs outside of Sarah and Queen Ming. (boob veins and all) Jensen looks especially, well, dumb. Not a fan of Kaim's outfit either. I still get a little misty eyed for the cutscene near the end of Disc one, too. That was a powerful moment, ranks right up there with the best ending of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. (that one hit me right in the gut and stayed with me for WEEKS, just like the ending of the fight with the Boss in MGS3)Its everything FF hsould have been, but with a better ring systemcloud3601

It's good in the beginning it loses it's momentum after the first disc. It starts off with a charming story, very well written then turns into melodramatic crap following all the cliches. The short stories on the other hand are amazing.[QUOTE="SteamedBennet"]

Trying to do something different is partly how they ended up with FFXII and FFXIII, polar opposites of each other, both hated upon release (although for FFXII you don't really see it much anymore).

I disagree. While I did enjoy DQVIII was set's it apart from any of the other mainstream DQ titles. I also found FFXII to be the better game.FFX-2 sold better. That is pretty low sales, even considering it's a spin-off.
That being said I don't think this is a sign of a huge drop in popularity in FF, but just a sign of just how polarizing FFXIII was. I'm sure the sales for FFXV will be a hellof alot better than what FFXIII-2 got.

So doing more of the same in the golden days might work. But what do you keep for the good games and what do you drop so that people don't accuse you of making the same game over and over again?
Well thats quite simply what happens when you change the game franchise so much that older fans start completely dispising the series, it would be the same for newer FF fans if their favorite game got changed so much it's not even the same thing anymore. They always blab on about how people can't accept change but I really doubt they could accept change themselves either.
What SE needs to do to fix this mess of a fanbase they created is first of all give old school FF fans their Final Fantasy formula back, hand it to someone who knows what the hell they're doing. Those games don't even have to be super high-def HD graphix, heck they can even have pre-rendored backgrounds as long as the main characters doesn't look like lego. Still put it on the consoles. Then they need to make an entirely new franchise similer to the newer FF games where they can just butcher away at it and change it as many times as they want.
The unfortunate thing about gamers is, that while they say they want change, they, in reality, actually are afraid of it.
It's pathetic really.

I don't see how anyone can say it's milked when each main FF is unique in it's own way. Same response to the guy that said it was outdated. FF games have changed too much for them to be called outdated. The only milkage coming into play is the new DLC they are promising for FFXIII-2 or the likely possibility that there will be yet another FFXIII(FFXIII-3) which clearly not many people want in the first place so it wouldn't be wide spread milkage.
No, the main problem stems from too much change. Change is good when it's in increments but not severe change that can potentially screw everything up.

I mean "milk" where it seems like Square is just a one trick pony at the moment, and produce FF titles most of the time. But the qulaity isn't all too great though. Notice that the best FF games, which were most epic for their times and were true FF games....were FF1-10, which had battle systems close to turnbased combat or turnbased combat itselfNow why would they go back to the awfully boring turn based system?

thats asking for a miracle, square knows they need to invest in the west why do you think they bought Eidos out pretty sure it was Squares idea to bring DX back aswell as theif.
They are making solid decsions there but FF is suffering from what one would call franchise fatigue and the stubborness for the Japanese wings of Squeenix arent being shifted onto new projects or even IP's which would benefit from sequels like The world is yours.

FF13 was trash. It's obvious that the market is responding everywhere, and the brand name of Final Fantasy has been permanently damaged. What did they think would happen if they released a linear, boring wannabe RPG with annoying characters? Every Final Fantasy game through X was driven by exploration and player choice. Even the "linear" stories were at least designed so you felt like you were in control.
XI was a decent (though grind-tastic) MMO, XII was a departure but one that at least was interesting, XIII was a disaster and XIV is the worst MMO to launch in a long time, it has literally been unplayably bad since launch, and is actually schedule to completley relaunch. Yeah, it's that bad. You know your game is garbage when you *abstain from charging the monthly fee*, not because you want to be free-to-play, but because you literally cannot justify charging the customers because there isn't a functioning game.
Square owns Eidos thus are a part of Square enix, actually Eidos was rebranded Square Enix Europe aswell so bang goes your whole ZOMG square are dying.razgriz_101Actually, that would prove him right. Square-Enix is using their remaining capital to buy out companies that have a better long-term chance of producing successful (read - profitable) titles. That's not a vote of confidence in their ability to sustain their existing franchises.
