As for FF13-2, all I know is this. It has like ten different endings and a time travelling mechanic. This game is basically Chrono Break. I'm in. Doesn't hurt that I enjoyed the sh*t out of FF13.

Final Fantasy X. Technically Lost Odyssey was a Final Fantasy game for all intents and purposes and had it as well.

Lost Odyssey wasn't a Ff title (just because Sakaguchi was the director doesn't make it a FF), and if I remember correctly didn't LO use a crappy version of the Judgement Ring system from the Shadow Hearts series?

What Square Enix needs is for the West to forget about Final Fantasy and fall in love with Dragon Quest, which is already indescribably huge in Japan. Really, guys, it's a better, less pretentious and far more charming franchise free of all the bullcrap.

[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"]even if FF died, SE has a lot more first party franchises, including the extremely popular dragon quest series and the also popular deus ex series. plus they do publishing for western companies in japan, so even if they didn't make games they'd still make money.razgriz_101

they still make crap games

So Deus Ex HR,Just Cause 2 and the new Tomb Raider game coming next year all look bad?

Why do you tell me what a company called Eidos made to show that Square Enix makes good games. It makes no sense, and shows/proves nothing

The best thing to come out of Square recently was Dues Ex:HR. Perhaps they should stop doing JRPG type games and focus on more western type RPG's instead. At least then the games would be interesting.

Which is why i said technically. It played so much like a FF title of old, just without the big budget production values. At the time of release it was popularly referred to as the "real FF12".

The story was incredible, and the dream stories you can find are just fantastic. I love the characters, but dislike or hate all of the character designs outside of Sarah and Queen Ming. (boob veins and all) Jensen looks especially, well, dumb. Not a fan of Kaim's outfit either. I still get a little misty eyed for the cutscene near the end of Disc one, too. That was a powerful moment, ranks right up there with the best ending of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. (that one hit me right in the gut and stayed with me for WEEKS, just like the ending of the fight with the Boss in MGS3)

It's good in the beginning it loses it's momentum after the first disc. It starts off with a charming story, very well written then turns into melodramatic crap following all the cliches. The short stories on the other hand are amazing.

pretty much on the money. I enjoy the games but there are some fans who go way to far just cause they dont like a certain part. Its both comical and sometimes anoying.

cloud3601

This is absolutely true and I agree.

ff1-10 were all epic for their time.

ff12 would be epic if it had a good story. i also felt that sometimes the game played itself, if you did the gambit system right

But that was part of the fun of XII...you got to configure your own characters tendencies....even when you didn't have direct control. FF XIII gave all the best options to you on a silver platter...only strategy in XIII is job switch timing.

XIII wasn't that bad, but I really...really...REALLY hate that battle system. Good for SE trying something new though...it just didn't work for me at all. Core Gameplay imo is better than character development.

They need to do something different but it's hardly time for them to ring the alarm bells of closing. They just need a new strategy. This is one of those times when you fix things because obviously the company's doing something wrong.

Trying to do something different is partly how they ended up with FFXII and FFXIII, polar opposites of each other, both hated upon release (although for FFXII you don't really see it much anymore).

That is pretty low sales, even considering it's a spin-off.

That being said I don't think this is a sign of a huge drop in popularity in FF, but just a sign of just how polarizing FFXIII was. I'm sure the sales for FFXV will be a hellof alot better than what FFXIII-2 got.

DJ-Lafleur

FFX-2 sold better.

And i enjoyed it mroe than ff13. FFx-2 has better battle system, and in ffx-2 at least i understand the story. unlike in ff13...all this crap about the purge, pulse, falcie lcie. what the F

I completely agree. FF died after X. The only good about FF now are spinoff games, like Dissidia & Type-0.

FFX was last epic FF game. The last true FF game that stayed true to the series (except no worldmap, but still you can return to areas)

Well thats quite simply what happens when you change the game franchise so much that older fans start completely dispising the series, it would be the same for newer FF fans if their favorite game got changed so much it's not even the same thing anymore. They always blab on about how people can't accept change but I really doubt they could accept change themselves either.

What SE needs to do to fix this mess of a fanbase they created is first of all give old school FF fans their Final Fantasy formula back, hand it to someone who knows what the hell they're doing. Those games don't even have to be super high-def HD graphix, heck they can even have pre-rendored backgrounds as long as the main characters doesn't look like lego. Still put it on the consoles. Then they need to make an entirely new franchise similer to the newer FF games where they can just butcher away at it and change it as many times as they want.

The unfortunate thing about gamers is, that while they say they want change, they, in reality, actually are afraid of it.

It's pathetic really.

I don't mind that the franchise is being milked although I prefer to see Square work on more new IP's. What I don't what is sour milk which is what we've been getting for the most part.

Krelian-co

Dont you see a pattern here? i see a pattern of decline.

Heres what another spinoff sold:

FF X-2........... 1,472,914 Units

yes a spin off to final fantasy x, one great final fantasy that almost everyone loved

well it just shows FF13 was one of the most hated FF's

I don't see how anyone can say it's milked when each main FF is unique in it's own way. Same response to the guy that said it was outdated. FF games have changed too much for them to be called outdated. The only milkage coming into play is the new DLC they are promising for FFXIII-2 or the likely possibility that there will be yet another FFXIII(FFXIII-3) which clearly not many people want in the first place so it wouldn't be wide spread milkage.

No, the main problem stems from too much change. Change is good when it's in increments but not severe change that can potentially screw everything up.

I mean "milk" where it seems like Square is just a one trick pony at the moment, and produce FF titles most of the time. But the qulaity isn't all too great though. As for the franchise being outdated I disagree with the other poster. I do not find the franchise to be outdated, but I do not the recent titles to be that great (which is a different story)

thats a terrible guidline to go by. Since its all opinion based. Whats a good story is very opinoin based and 12 and 13 both had fun battle systems, but again that can be subjective to.

[QUOTE="robokill"]12 was most definitely your normal ff game as was 10, but 13 was just crap. It's bound to happen, they'll come back strong I'm sure.finalfantasy94

A normal FF game is one that is epic. Has a good story and strategic battle system.

FF11-14 were not normal FF games

thats a terrible guidline to go by. Since its all opinion based. Whats a good story is very opinoin based and 12 and 13 both had fun battle systems, but again that can be subjective to.

Sure all opinion based but it's pretty obvious who the majority is here. Sales speak louder than words.

I completely agree. FF died after X. The only good about FF now are spinoff games, like Dissidia & Type-0.

Grawse

I completley disagree. I really enjoyed what 12 and 13 offered. I both to be very good games.

Don't you ever get tired of crying over other peoples opinion on this dying franchise?

hu? Im just stating my opinoin. Who says im crying over someone elses opinoin. If this about me saying this in other type of threads put up well then welcome to the forums buddy where things repeat alot.

Now why would they go back to the awfully boring turn based system?

el3m2tigre

Notice that the best FF games, which were most epic for their times and were true FF games....were FF1-10, which had battle systems close to turnbased combat or turnbased combat itself

They need to do something different but it's hardly time for them to ring the alarm bells of closing. They just need a new strategy. This is one of those times when you fix things because obviously the company's doing something wrong.

verbtex

they need to fire yoichi wada, and get someone who will make the company like squaresoft again

thats asking for a miracle, square knows they need to invest in the west why do you think they bought Eidos out pretty sure it was Squares idea to bring DX back aswell as theif.

They are making solid decsions there but FF is suffering from what one would call franchise fatigue and the stubborness for the Japanese wings of Squeenix arent being shifted onto new projects or even IP's which would benefit from sequels like The world is yours.

The best thing to come out of Square recently was Dues Ex:HR. Perhaps they should stop doing JRPG type games and focus on more western type RPG's instead. At least then the games would be interesting.

So half a million in one week is now a bad thing? of course it did less than Tales of Xillia but half a million is pretty good, give it few more weeks and will hit a million in japan and will be over a million in 2 weeks outside of Japan, nothing to worry about. looking forward to play FFXIII-2

finalstar2007

FF13 was trash. It's obvious that the market is responding everywhere, and the brand name of Final Fantasy has been permanently damaged. What did they think would happen if they released a linear, boring wannabe RPG with annoying characters? Every Final Fantasy game through X was driven by exploration and player choice. Even the "linear" stories were at least designed so you felt like you were in control.

XI was a decent (though grind-tastic) MMO, XII was a departure but one that at least was interesting, XIII was a disaster and XIV is the worst MMO to launch in a long time, it has literally been unplayably bad since launch, and is actually schedule to completley relaunch. Yeah, it's that bad. You know your game is garbage when you *abstain from charging the monthly fee*, not because you want to be free-to-play, but because you literally cannot justify charging the customers because there isn't a functioning game.

Actually, that would prove him right. Square-Enix is using their remaining capital to buy out companies that have a better long-term chance of producing successful (read - profitable) titles. That's not a vote of confidence in their ability to sustain their existing franchises.
