Square Enix is a quality company that has great tech to make games. Not only that but they can help with RPG elements to help out. Its Win Win all around. its not like the second game was a huge success.

It's not win win at all. All they know are Japanese rpg elements and that crap won't flow with a WESTERN game. They better not touch anything at all.[QUOTE="zarshack"]
Do Publishers usually have imput on game creation?
Sky-
Yes, they definitely have a say in what direction the game is going in since they are funding the development of the title.
SE has been grabbing western games to publish as part of a recent strategy, but they have had no input on the actual games. What could they possibly say for something like Sup Com 2?Well according to the last IGN article the devs are aiming for it to be similar to Deus Ex 1.The real question should be:
Will this game be DeusEx2 or InvisibleWar2?

From what I recall, Square did work with the Sup Com team on presentation; cutscenes and story work.[QUOTE="Ravenlore_basic"][QUOTE="peanutbudduh"]

I am not familiar with Sup Com 2, so I can't comment on that. Perhaps I should clarify my post a little bit. Publishers have the option of exercising their power and having a huge impact on how the game turns out. Because they are financing the project, publishers monitor the progress of the title and make critiques and changes as necessary. Whether they choose to use this power to do so or not is an entirely different story.
A recent example of what I suspect to be a publisher putting their foot down is the case with High Voltage Software and it's publisher, Sega. Last year, HvS revealed two titles, Gladiator A.D. and The Grinder (a Left 4 Dead clone). Both titles were Wii-exclusive and judging by the early footage, would easily pass as M-rated titles. Recently, it was revealed that Gladiator A.D. was renamed Tournament of Legends, with a far more colorful and less-realistic artstyle than the original footage (no blood too I might add). A few days ago, The Grinder was announced as a multiplat for the PS3, Wii, and 360. Because they would be competing with other FPS titles on the other consoles, they changed The Grinder to a top-down shooter similar to Gauntlet.
Something you should note is that I do not work in the video game industry, so you should take my words with a grain of salt. I am sure that publishers can influence the outcome of the video game, but I am not entirely certain regarding what extent they can exert that power and how often this practice occurs and whether or not that practice is even desirable in the first place (for both publishers and devs).
They'll screw it up as much as they screwed up Arkham Asylum and as much as Capcom screwed up Bionic Commando ReArmed...Senor_KamiHow did square screw up batman?>

It looks like the gameplay elements of the first game, with plot elements of the second game........which is great The first game had better gameplay, but Invisible War had a better story. While I don't think it'll compare to the first, I think it'll be ******* awesome. Did you watch the 12 minute vid interview on Gamespot?
Yea... this game actually might have some life in its charcters now.... oh wait.... WRPG fans only like lifeless husks.Birdy09WRPGS > JRPGs.... In fact, maybe Deus Ex will teach SquareEnix how to make a real RPG.
Doesn't really matter.. Tomb Raider was a shock at first but now ehh..:P

Sadly, yes. Welcome to the corporate world. Publishers are the investors who provide developers with the means to make, x game. If they wanted to pull the plug because they didn't think it would net any profit, they can do so willingly. Unless you're a private developer, like Epic Games, who can fund their own video games.. Sometimes with a little help from Microsoft.. you can do as you please. Epic games were able to do so much with Gears of War because they nearly had full creative freedom. And that's the way it should be, imho.Do Publishers usually have imput on game creation?

Deus Ex>>>>Deus Ex 2 : Invisible.
I'm looking forward to DE 3...hope it turns out well.

Invisible War was sooo disappointing. I still found it slightly amusing, but man... ugh!

Your posting history makes it painfully clear that you have a tremendous amout of baseless hatred and bias against all things related to or developed by Square Enix, so I'm going to go ahead and completely disregard your inane ramblings.

Yes, they really dumbed it down. I don't know what to make of this new one yet...with Warren gone and making Mickey.

I can't wait believe after the poor performance of this fading genre this generation, and after the flop that FF13 was, still people are say THIS ?

FFXIII scored .5 points less than expected because it's so "linearrrr."
Yeah, SquareEnix should have no input whatsoever. Would have welcomed their input 10 years ago, but not today.

Also it sold really well so its definitely not a "flop."They'll screw it up as much as they screwed up Arkham Asylum and as much as Capcom screwed up Bionic Commando ReArmed...Senor_Kami.....Square had nothing to do with Arkham Asylum.

Some publishers give more creative freedom to their developers than others. If the publishers feel the game is heading in an unprofitable direction they'll definitely step in.
