[QUOTE="Birdy09"]Your right, i suppose Miranda losing her childhood friend would be an emotional time, yet all thye could musta was alittle angry face, a cheesey macho "youl pay for that" and attack... and then you speak to her afterwards shes just like every character, an information kiosk that talks in a mundain voice. Fair enough if you like standing there and clicking optional dialogue which in a good majority of the case has no real effect on the game at all as apposed to scripted RP or self-played RP (Morrowind ect) ... but its not for me, I dont like being bored.AdrianWerner

you act like characters in jRPG actualy behave like belivable real humans, please :D

Nope, theyre not believable, theyre just more interesting... and dont just ask like a big white box with a blue exclamation mark that drums out random crap that they could of A) told to me in a more interesting way, b) cut out completely because its useless garbage. But this is going alittle off my point, with the exception of Mass Effect... Biowares games combat has been boring, average, unbalanced, unintersting and limited. Not to mention the majority of the games "side quests" are just nothing compared to some JRPGs (keyword SOME)... boss fights aswell ... I could go on for ages. Its fine to like Interactive Stories... hell I do too. but I except a top tier RPG to excel in all areas... WRPG often dont (and im well aware its ironic since FF13 lacks content outside of fighting).

Huh? I would say Bioware PC RPGs always excelled in gameplay, not so much in storyline.

[QUOTE="gillri"]

but before KOTOR or Baldurs gate 2, JRPG's were better

particularly in the 2D era

AdrianWerner

I disagree completely :)

im struggling to think of an older WPRG that is even close to Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, FFVI

why do you think reviewers and journalists are so disppointed in JRPG's these days? because of their amazing past quality, they set the bar so high, now JRPG's just arent as good, WRPG's are king now, you can disagree but this is the truth

if you are just a WRPG fan who is just disregarding JRPG's cause you have never liked them then I understand that viewpoint

Well I dont know then? we clearly find different things fun. I dont find spamming D&D rule sets, pausing the game every 10 seconds and watching diceroll attacks to be strategic, interesting or fun. dont get me wrong, I like the games to some extent... but thier itemization, thier enemies everything about that area of play Bioware has been boring, reptitive and predictable with.

Horrible company that should have NOTHING to do with the game. Hope they didn't mess anything up.

Square Enix will not mess things up, they will improve the game I hope Deus Ex has turn base combat with linear exploration with no puzzles or any choices to make I

[QUOTE="peanutbudduh"] It's not win win at all. All they know are Japanese rpg elements and that crap won't flow with a WESTERN game. They better not touch anything at all.peanutbudduh

I don't see how Square Enix on cover will mess up the series more then Deus Ex 2 did...

I was thinking the exact same thing when I clicked on the thread.

So fallout 1 and 2, Diablo(as an arpg)The gold box games, Might and magic series, Dark sun, Ultima 5-7,Wizardry series, Ultima Underworld 1 and 2, AND Baldur's gate don't exist?Daggerfall? Realms of Arkania, Darklands etc. etc. I could go on forever, Have you played all those games? I've played every final fantasy except for 10-2 because that was lame j-pop drivel. Chrono trigger and VI WERE good games, great games. I just don't think they can compete with most of those pc rpgs that I listed above.

Expand your mind man, play some old school pc rpgs, they'll give you a good experience. Trippy stuff.

um...all those you've named have pretty mediocre gameplay wise, especially Secret of Mana. And reviwers are praising wRPGs today because they didn't play older PC RPGs. They're getting praise from console press and gamers who's first contacts with wRPGs was through Xbox 360. There's no way anyone who played games like Ultima 7 or Darklands could ever give Oblivion AAA score for example

just because the combat system and ruleset is too complex for you to have fun with it, doesn't make it boring, repetitive and predictable, especially since jRPGs are all much worse in those areas than games like BG2

I think a lot of this back and forth could have been prevented if you would have simply stated that you don't care for these kinds of games instead of saying there are no characters, stories, etc. To be honest with you I'm seeing more and more publications praising WRPG's for their stories and characters than JRPG's. You can even look at this site and see that the JRPG that won RPG of the year did so not because of story or characters but because of difficulty and online play. The game that was a contender for that award was an WRPG that was in the running due to its story and characters plus a strategic battle system.

if those japanese retards are working on this one then you can expext from them nothing but just ruin the franchise. im already guessing the levels are going to be filled with low-res textures means the environment is going to look very dull because of consoles. and now the japs came to do some final damage so the deus ex serieswill succesfully collapse. (MAYBE)

I wouldn't say all. I think the combat in the Tales series for instance is much more fun than most other RPG's.

Ooh, another JRPG Vs. WRPG argument. How original. I'm just gonna say both have their pros and cons, and if you don't enjoy one of 'em, why bother criticizing it if you're not gonna give it its fair shake? The extreme fanboys on both sides make me sick and are incredibly close-minded, both just closet forms of some hidden xenophobia. And I look forward to Dues Ex 3, I will try it out.
