[QUOTE="JLF1"][QUOTE="HuusAsking"][QUOTE="xscrapzx"]Um isnt it fact that the 360 usually sells more software then the ps3 almost all the time? Why don't we look at grand theft auto sales on both systems? Why didn't you post that? Isn't Final fantasy a pretty popular game? Maybe not as much as GTA but it is up there I would think no?HuusAskingThen explain Enchanted Arms--a multiplat JRPG.
To counter paragraph one, S-E would prefer investors in the home country. There is an image problem with gaijin (it's part of their character), and this may be one reason Mistwalker is having difficulties (as for them making a DS game, this had always been an option for MW--Microsoft is not competing in the handheld market).Ummm you do know the game is still coming out for the PS3 right? Their is no snub. There are also FF games coming out on the PSP. How do you know that Microsoft hasn't invested in SquareEnix as well. They could easily invest more then what Sony could invest in SquareEnix.
You don't know what your talking about. Everything you are saying is just guess work and your opinion on the subject. How is having FFXIII on 2 platforms a bad thing? SquareEnix is going to make twice the amount of money then they normally would have with the game just on the PS3.
blackace
To counter paragraph two, what about potential PS3 sales riding on FF13 as they have with MGS4? Also, what about homeland alienation (see first paragraph counter) that may make Japanese gamers not buy S-E games for any platform (cut off the nose to spite the face, sort of), resulting in potentially less return than if they had stuck with one platform.

Not always it is possible for a firma to choose its investors. By the way, MS could have bought 20% of SE stocks, and nobody would know. Besides, FFXIII coming to the 360 (plus exclusives and a timed exclusive) shows that both MS and SE have a good relationship.

Come on. FF is almost a religion in Japan. Do you really think they are stop buying it just because in other continents it is avalaible in another console? Absolutely unlikely.
[QUOTE="cakeorrdeath"]Development costs for second platform + possible exclusivity deal < Sales on second platform = Multiplat
RK-Mara
Not to mention the massive amount of money Microsoft paid for the multiplat deal.
They haven't paid for exclusivity. They have been building a relationship right before 360 came out. MS asked SE to help them with development on Infinite Undiscovery which MS originally started the work but decided to ask for help from SE. So SE gave the project to Tri Ace, who is also bringing Star Ocean to the 360. It only benefit SE, they've had their stock fall considerably since April, ever since they announced FFXIII for the 360. The stock after hours of trading went up almost six percent before it opened the next morning, and it's been at a steady incline since then.[QUOTE="nervmeister"][QUOTE="NuclearFreedom"]Woah. Really? Of course thats why they should of made some deal where if FFXIII goes multiplat they get a hold of more shares so everyone benefits.
There has got to be a way to get more shares forcefully but legally like buying up their good software artists and what not and combining those people with the people at SCEA to make an rpg.
Who else owns SE?
Sony owns a stake in Square Enix. So does Nintendo (since they invested in Enix prior to the merger). Apart from stakes held by private investors (I think there are a few of those), the rest IIRC are traded in the stock market (isn't the company publicly traded?).[QUOTE="HuusAsking"][QUOTE="blackace"]To counter paragraph one, S-E would prefer investors in the home country. Fine enough. I was playing Devil's Advocate to see if could back up your claims. Still, I have to wonder about the second paragraph. Like I said, there is an intense national pride in Japan. Gaijin have a very hard time getting a toehold in their market because of it. That said, you're right in that I've yet to see a true backlash for supporting a gaijin (even Itagaki was forgiven eventually, and he jumped last generation). The propaganda from Fanfolk always numbs my head,
From the Tweenagers I expect this, but Amy you are a University student and should know better.
If Square had pulled Sony support and gone exclusive to Microsoft by all means, but the bottom-line is that Sony does not have nearly a 100 million console lead this generation and while PS3 may surpass the 360 sooner or later with the release of Gears of War 2 later this year and the fanfare that will be attached to that, when the years shakes out in terms of who sold more consoles Wii will be WAY ahead and PS3 and 360 and the difference between the two will be present but hardly earth shattering.
This generation the masses are far more divided then at anytime that Square has supported Sony during the Console Wars, and while every console loyalist will float theories about console X being 100 million ahead when the smoke clears, realistically this generation is going to be a lot closer then the last two were judging by the sales patterns over the last few years. PS3 may be gaining but to think it has the momentum to basically stop sales of the 360 when you have the follow up to the second best selling game on the console coming in November, coupled with the release of Fable 2 which regardless of our personal feelings is the follow up to the 4th best selling Xbox game, and the second best selling Xbox game not called Halo.
The fact that PS3 is selling very well the month that the most highly antisipated game for the console was finally released is nice, but unless the PS3 outsells the 360 in November and December by a wide margin which with Gears and Fable may be a tall task, the reality is that once again the PS3/360 battle will basically be "Coke Vs. Pepsi" a close battle with no clear winner.
Square wanted to make sure that the franchise they have been very successful with over the last few years and over the past few console generations continues to reach as many gamers as possible, and the reality is that with no clear cut winner in the "High end console" race between the PS3 and 360 which I imagine are the only two consoles that could run FFXIII, Square had to make a judgement call.
So they opted to offer the game to both PS3 owners and 360 owners which will help soften the blow from the fact that Final Fantasy XIII will not be available on the console that has the most users being the Nintendo Wii.
PS3 stumbled out of the gates in terms of sales, Square/Enix has put a lot of time and effort into this game and to release it to a console base of just 20 million? 25 million or whatever the PS3 may be it when FFXIII is released would be brutal when in the past they have released it in a console with two to three times that amount of units sold at least.
With large developer studios being eatten alive by bigger firms Square/Enix made the best choice they could given the situation and that was to broaden their userbase.
Anyone who feels that that was a poor business choice us too far gone in the realm of fanboydom to even bother with.
Just curious. Square Enix is already a pretty big firm (I mean, they bought out Taito, one of the old-school legends, a couple years back). If S-E ever got in real trouble, who do you think would be likely to invest in it or even buy it out? With large developer studios being eatten alive by bigger firms Square/Enix made the best choice they could given the situation and that was to broaden their userbase.

But I don't think it will be a preoblem, becasue FFXIII is still exclusive in Japan (smart move of SE), so I don't think it will be a problem. Besides, FfXIII is GOD there, in the worst case, I'm sure they would make an exception.
SE is only doing it because MS throws money at them like they do with all their games. FF13 was going to sell like 5 million on the PS3, with it being multiplat it will probably sell like 6.5 million, my guess is 4.5 million on the PS3 and 2 million on the 360. Expect SO4 to go multiplat by the end of the year as well. The only game that will not is IU because MS bought that right?Kahuna_1

Um first of all SO4 is exclusive atleast until its release date of '09. In all honesty a game such as FF will sell a hell of a lot more than that figure you spued out. Secondly it would be in Square's benefit to sell on both systems considering that would push more quantities to be sold, you fanboys really have to get off this whole money bit. Its common sense, you run a business you want money are you going to sit here and say "ohhhh we have been with Sony for sooo long I think it is time to move on, but it will be really really depressing." Come on really they want money and that is a good way to spread the game out to a broader user base to make more money.

I hold no loyalty to anyone, all the companies can burn for all I care. Second of all, FF sales are slowly declining, I do not even think 10 and 12 sold 5 million, I forgot what the figure said yesterday. And if FF goes multiplat it would only make sense for them to make everything else multiplat.

The detractors are saying that Sony won't like it because they won't be getting as much money out of the deal. Think, if a S-E game gets sold on the 360, Sony gets dividends out of it. That's it. Whereas if it gets sold on the PS3, not only does Sony get the dividend, but they also get the licensing fees (for selling a game for a Sony console) and maybe even profit out of a console sale.So you'd perfer it if an entire population of gamers wouldn't be able to play what is one of the greatest RPG franchises of all time? Ugh, typical pathetic fanboy. I couldn't care less about the business involved, I'm happy because I only own a 360 and now I get a chance to continue my tradition of playing every single main series FF game in one form or another.glitchgeemanAs the fanboys would say, better to sell to all your loyal fans than to sell to half your loyal fans (the other half rejecting you out of spite) and a handful of "those other guys".

I have been hinting at that, but you cannot insult the 360 here so I guess it is only ok for the 360 to have exclusives from what some people post. All 3rd party should just go multiplat because then we would see how great everyones' first party studios are.
