Then what's the point of the damn thing?  Honestly, all you hear about is how the Wiimote gives you greater control over your game and is more immersive, and then I found out that one of the Wii's flagship titles will not support it?  The other day I was thinking about how hard and awkward it would be trying to short hop, wavedash, and cancel with a wiimote, so I read up on the game, and I was suprised to learn that I'll need to dig out my GC controller to even play the game.

So I ask you, Nintendo fans/supporters, how does this choice not condemn the wiimote?  SSBB using an old controller just tells me that the wiimote is not suited to games that require pinpoint timing and accuracy, which is extremely dissapointing, because here I thought I was told the wiimote would be the best thing since sliced bread.  SSBB using a "last-gen" controller just seems to me like all the wiimote is good for is slow paced leisure games and mini-game collections.

Some games obviously wouldn't work well with it. As for games that require pinpoint timing and accuracy. Wario Ware, Trauma Center, and Super Monkey Ball disagree with you, and games like TP and Sonic show that it can be well implemented in a regular game.

It isn't confirmed to not use the Wiimote, all we know is that we can use the GameCube controller as well.

The Wiimote is only for BS games. Anything that requires actual skill needs an actual controller.

The only thing confirmed at this point, is that you will be able to use GCN controllers. This does NOT mean using the wii mote won't be possible. This has been discussed a billion times before.

It also uses the classic pad.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. SSBB is a love letter to Smash Brothers fans. They have said as much themselves. However, SSBB none use of the remote does not mean that other games can't use it.

People who say the Wiimote can't work for SSB are afraid of change and can't realize SSB doesn't need to play like Melee, and SSBB is pretty much SSBM 1.5

I repeat:

Thanks God some people here won't develop games, let's list some people beliefs about the Wiimote and the SSB franchise:

1. If something insane is happening on screen, it means you're swinging your Wiimote as a retarded monkey and hitting your whole family and neighbours.

2. When Nintendo created the Wiimote, they deliberately decided that they should make a controller that isn't suited for fighters, after all, that's perfectly logical. Therefore, DBZ and MK:A are errors of nature.

3. SSBM was a so perfect of a launch GC game that 6 years later, slighty better graphics put to shame by standard competition graphics and a friend code based online put to shame by Live and PC Online (and probably by PSN too) will make it. After all we can't deny SSBB is graphics whores' paradise...

4. SSBM was made around the GC controller, which inevitably means the Wii sequel should be made around the same controller.

5. Because if it was made for the Wii controller, that could only be done by porting the all mighty Melee to Wii and tacking on random Wiimote swings. The simply thought of a SSB built from the ground for the Wii is absurd.

6. Sakurai is God. If he says he can't do it, no one can do it, not even God. Oh, wait, Sakurai is God. Ed Boon doesn't exist and MK:A is a mirage.

7. There are so many things in Brawl that the Wiimote isn't needed. Yes, many things that a PS3/360 can do better and is doing better.

8. "I can't imagine SSB with the Wiimote". Of course, you're the one who eats up what Nintendo gives you, not the guy in charge of creating Brawl, who's being quite lazy lately...

Get real. If you want to buy and play Brawl, I won't stop you. I can't and I don't want to, but that won't change the fact that you'll be playing Melee 1.5.

OK, you go play Time Crisis and Trauma Centre with a controller, and we'll see who's better.

You're kinda late, aren't you? They said it'd use the GC controller a long time ago, but they could change their minds. I think they said they might use the wiimote for special attacks, but that could have just been a rumor.

Anyway, Trauma Center and Elebits disagree with you. :D

aaaand thats your opinion.  as dumb as I may think it is.

simply put,  why would the makers of this game design it so that we dont enjoy it as much.  they said if the wiimote functionality conflicts witht he enjoyment of the game, they wouldnt include it. at least, they wouldnt focus on it heavily.

why is that a bad thing?  why is being able to admit when a game is better suited for a certain control scheme bad?   wasnt that a big worry, that if the wiimote doesnt lend itself well to a game we would be stuck using it anyway?

no longer an issue.

ya man, just like DDR or guitar heroes.

and its not just one game, you can also use it with other wii games  (metal slug being one of them) as well as vc games.

more useful than you think.  want to play 5 player bomberman 93..  grab a couple cube controllers,,  or you can try and track down a wiimote or the VC controller.   its an option.  options are ALWAYS good

Its sad, it should be used. The left analog moves the character with Z button for jumping and the D-Pad on the Wii mote should be for moves with the motion sensing used for the odd move and a few other things.

They key to success of making it work with the game is to use it but not too much just for a few actions and it should be done like that.

To be honest with you, I felt like those reviews were more like fanboy remarks. I would understand for GTA III getting a 9.6 but the others were just the same as the last with an update of going on motorcycles and an expansive land mass.

Rykaziel, THANK YOU! Geez. I just can't believe how many people are "okay" with that decision. I just personally don't understand that. I've made the argument on several forums that we shouldn't support that. If we do then Nintendo will realize how little they have to do to sell their games. And all of the future games will no longer use the wii mote. They're going to say "YAY! We can use the GC controller for all of our games!!!!" This isn't some issue of whether or not the wiimote can be used well, this is an issue of the fact that if you build a game system around an idea, you need to stick by that idea, rather than taking the easy way out. The other part that bothers me is having to go out and buy a GC or VC controller. If Nintendo gave me a GC/VC controller with the game, at lease I wouldn't feel so ripped off. But as far as I'm concerned, this is just seeming more and more like a way of taking the easy way out and milking us for all that we're worth. And I have noted what some of you said about it not being confirmed yet. I was under impression it had been confirmed, but maybe I was wrong. If Nintendo would make the game and give you the option of using the wii mote AND GC/VC controllers, I think that would be the ideal solution. Even if I end up preferring the GC/VC controller to the wiimote, at least they've offered it to me. I realize I'm probably going to get flamed for saying all of this, but all we have to do is remember the innovative "connectivity". Games like Crystal Chronicles and Four Swords Adventures. Those games were perfectly capable of using GC controllers (in fact they did in Single player when playing by yourself), but they forced you to have a GBA and link cable. My point in bringing that up is that Nintendo is NOT afraid to force you to go out and spend a great deal of money on things that aren't necessary.

ZING! Ownage approved. Not to mention that you probably don't HAVE to buy the controller, and will most likely be able to use the wiimote in some form to play the game (albeit not as well as with a regular controller :P)

[QUOTE="JayPee89"][QUOTE="_vacant_"][QUOTE="JayPee89"][QUOTE="FireEmblem_Man"]We haven't heard any news regarding Smash Bros Brawl for a while, so we don't know if its actually confirmed_vacant_

SSBB using a "last-gen" controller just seems to me like all the wiimote is good for is slow paced leisure games and mini-game collections.

rykaziel
The Wiimote is only for BS games. Anything that requires actual skill needs an actual controller.

aaaand thats your opinion.  as dumb as I may think it is.

simply put,  why would the makers of this game design it so that we dont enjoy it as much.  they said if the wiimote functionality conflicts witht he enjoyment of the game, they wouldnt include it. at least, they wouldnt focus on it heavily.

why is that a bad thing?  why is being able to admit when a game is better suited for a certain control scheme bad?   wasnt that a big worry, that if the wiimote doesnt lend itself well to a game we would be stuck using it anyway?

no longer an issue.

It's a bad thing when you have to buy a controller just to play 1 game.

ya man, just like DDR or guitar heroes.

and its not just one game, you can also use it with other wii games  (metal slug being one of them) as well as vc games.

more useful than you think.  want to play 5 player bomberman 93..  grab a couple cube controllers,,  or you can try and track down a wiimote or the VC controller.   its an option.  options are ALWAYS good

The GC controller works almost as well as the VC controller in terms of backwards compatability. Also, there are several other Wii games, such as Mortal Kombat, which support the GC controller. Also, don't forget the huge GC library that is available on the Wii.

Why do guys with GTA avatars always say stuff like this :|

What does that have to do with anything? GTA is better than anything the Wii will ever see.

JayPee89 likes his little joke.....................

9.6, 9.6, 9.6

Metroid Prime got 9.7............

Ownage approved

Not quite. You fools fail to mention that the most recent edition of Metroid Prime got a 9.1. When one of your kiddie franchises get's 3 straight scores of 9.6 then you can say ownage approved. Until then ownage DENIED. :-)

A) We'll see how well Corruption does. B) We call upon... Mario. With appearance (note, that doesn't mean he was the star) in over 130 games, I'm sure some of them have to have gotten higher than 9.6. Ocarina of Time is one, and I'm sure there are others.

I don't own a wii yet (and probably won't until SSBB appears), but how can any serious gamer own the system without a GC controller? There are a lot of great GC games that you can pick up for cheap nowadays.

No, you're trying way too hard. You cannot keep saying that certain games "Don't Count". By the way, what sort of rating did these games get on gamerankings. Gamespots usually pretty good, but they have their share of blunders, in which case an averaged score is the fairest.

Whatever.  This is Gamespot, where Gamespot scores count.  GTA is better than anything your kiddie little Wii will ever have.  Now I'm off to play a real man's game God of War 2.  Enjoy your Fisher-Price my first console.  8)
