[QUOTE="muscleserge"]Here is why PC is better than a console... 1. Combine experient- why have everything separate, DVD player, Game system, DVR etc... when a PC can do it all, in just one box. 2. Versatility- you PC can be whatever you want it to be. You can use any controller you want 3. Better graphics 4. Better games 5. Free online and a choice of services like Steam, Xfire, or Live. 6. Multitasking, convert a video while playing a game, or if a game doesn't support custom soundtracks, have a media player in the backroud. 7. Mods 8. Niches- there are modder, overclockers, programmers, hackers etc.. all on a singe platform. I could go on for longer but I am at work.-Renegade

This is all your opinion except the better graphics part. Point 8 is why I perfer consoles over PC because I don't have to deal with any of that.

you don't HAVE to deal w/ it on your pc either.

If there is one thing you can't avoid on PC it's hackers. They ruin just about every game on PC.

I went through a discussion earlier talking about changing the way comps play games and run discs so I won't necessarily get into that again.

But what do you think about steam and its efforts to change that?

Better games- fact according to GS AA/AAA count.

muscleserge

That's opinion. But if a console has a particular game(s) not on PC, people will very likely buy the console

Versatility, show me a console with a selection of controllers, seftware, hardware as wide as on PC.

muscleserge

more isn't always better. People really like the controllers of the console systems today.

Free online -Fact

muscleserge

yeah, there was free online for Battlefield 1942. But you had to pay for the real good servers. But you are right, it was free nonetheless. PS3 is free. And so is Nintendo's. "But Nintendo online sucks!" Not Mario kart. And it'll get better with time. I know you don't want to deal with friend codes, etc. (which many developers are working around BTW) And it offers the convinence of restricting your kids connecting to pervs, undersirables, etc. Again, its a nice conveinence to the consumer.

You don't have to be part of any nich, you could just be a normal user like millions of other PC owners. Show me a console that can encode a video for me so that I could watch it on my PDA, while I am checking my e-mail, and paying my bils at the same time.

muscleserge

Why the hell would you want to do that on your console. A console is a DEDICATED GAMING UNIT. Nobody expects or probably desires their console does that.

If you are deciding which TV to buy, does the fact that one plays FM radio going to win you over another?

Face it PC can be as hassle free as a console, and it can be anything else you want. Say I like overclocking, tweaking and benchmarking aside from gaming, what console would allow me to do that.

muscleserge

Again, WHY would you want to do that to your console? Not everyone that plays games is a techinical guru that desires to tweak and maximise the gaming machine. A console offers the conveinence of a nice, standard box you don't have to mess with to enjoy your games. You don't have to check each game to see i fyou have enough RAM, the latest graphic card, etc. Yes, I know consoles have updates. But those are pretty mindless to install.

What if I want to make a video of me playing Crysis with some good music and post it on youtube, what console would allow me to do that.

muscleserge

Again, WHY? Who is expecting this from their games? People have a PC for that purpose.

Say I don't like the DVD drive in my 360, it is too loud, can I change it with out voiding the warrenty, or the fans for that matter, my PC has 3 80mm and 1 120mm fans not counting CPU and GPU fans and it makes 2x less noise than my 360. I am not trying to convince you to immidiately switch, people have preferences, but I just want to show you the error of your statements, and alot of other consolites' statements.muscleserge

Well, That is what MS offered. If you don't like the unit, don't buy it from MS. can you buy a Dell PC and change the components and not void the warranty if something goes wrong while you do it? I don't believe every PC vendor lets you change the components and expect the warranty to be intact.

I think the issue is that techinical people on here fail to comprehend or appreciate the mindset of owning a console.

And when did you realize the falicy of buying a console? After you read St. John's article?

Well, the conversation is not about gaming. Its about will PC's entirely replace consoles as gaming.

My point is, while its POSSIBLE, it's not PROBABLE

Steam is okay but I would rather have the hard copy of my games that way I could sell them if I don't like them or want them anymore.

1. You can backup Steam games if you fear catastrophic failure.

2. You can sell them, too.

Believe it or not, those same controllers also work on PCs. Plus, for some games, nothing beats the good ol' mouse and keyboard: standard on all PCs today.

Well the Mayan calendar says we'll all be dead by 2012 so I don't think we'll be caring about VG's by then...

And you're point is what? People buy PC games? That was never in disagreement. No one is arguing that. Actually, that simply enforces the fact that the GAME is largely responsible for keeping the unit around, being PC or Console.

I know they work on PCs (The 360 one does). For some games, nothing beats the GC controller, PS controller, or MS controller, or Wii Remote. They all have different options. SOmetimes a keyboard and mouse works best too.

But if you want to play a game with four people at once in your house, are you going to supply for sets of keyboards and mouses? have fun pulling that one off.

Define PC. Something that runs Windows? Hmm. To me consoles are specialized gaming PCs. There will never cease to be a demand for a unified and reliable method of running games. Being able to mass produce the same unit provides for stability and is very cost effective. This guy is opinionated, but illogical.gamecubepad

Well said.
